BABY IT'S COLD OUTSIDE by Wyatt, Dani, Kitty, Pop (19)

Epilogue

Vix

TWO YEARS LATER

“Mom. Stop.  Please, for the love of all things holy...”

“Avert your damn eyes if you don’t like it.” She strings together a few more curse words then goes back to kissing Eve’s father, tongue and all.

Eve shakes her head as I rub my hand down my face.

It’s Christmas at Cedar Terrace and although Eve doesn’t work here anymore, we will still spend the afternoon here with my mom and her dad.  I’m back to work busier than ever but I only take local jobs. I can’t be away from Eve even overnight.

“They’re in love.”  Eve steps away from the little kitchen in the apartment Mom and Reginald, Eve’s father, now share, and hands me a cup of coffee.

“I get it.  I just don’t need to be front and center for the show.”

“For shit’s sake.”  My mom turns to me.  “Do you think it’s any different watching you paw your wife constantly?  I practically see you fucking her with your eyes.  Just because we’re old, doesn’t mean we’re dead.  You should be happy your father and I are still horny for each other.  If you two get lucky, you’ll be like us someday.  It’s not like we have anything else to do all damn day.”  She smiles and puts her hand on his leg and he smiles at her like a puppy.

Somewhere along the line, Mom started to believe that Reginald was my father.  And hey, he didn’t seem to care and there’s no arguing with Mom.  Truth be told, it just worked out for everyone, so we stopped correcting her a long time ago.

I reach up and pull Eve onto my lap.  My free hand reaches around her waist to rub her nine-month round belly.

It’s taken us this long to get her pregnant.  It wasn’t for lack of trying either.  Doctor couldn’t find any reason with her or me, and once we sort of just relaxed about it all, bam she was pregnant.

“It’s almost time.”  Eve’s father looks at his watch.  “I don’t want to sit all the way in the back so let’s get rolling.”

He gives my mom one last kiss and I take a long drink of my coffee, then set it on the end table before easing Eve back up onto her feet.

“You feeling okay, baby?”  I ask.  Her feet have been swollen for a month and she’s uncomfortable as hell, but she never complains.

“I’m good.”  She looks radiant, but tired.  This baby has been kicking the crap out of her for weeks and I know she’s ready to get it the hell out of her.

I’m doing what I can to move things along.  Her body is so fucking sexy like this, I can barely keep my dick in my pants.

I fucked her twice this morning after we opened presents back at the house, then ate her pussy to another handful of orgasms.  But still no labor has started, even though she’s three days overdue.

“Let’s go.”  Eve waddles over to grip the handles on my mom’s wheelchair and moves toward the door.

I’m behind her with her dad and we make our way downstairs to where I’m sure the crowd is already gathering, waiting for Eve to start her Christmas Day concert.

Out in the hall, Howard is whizzing by.  “You better not pop that baby out on my shift.”  He laughs as he strides by. “Keep your legs crossed.”

“Merry Christmas.”  Eve presses her hands into her back as she walks. “Left you a present on your desk.”

He waves as a resident corners him and we move on down the hall.

She plays here twice a week, as well as at any of the nursing homes and senior living facilities within fifty miles.  She also runs the Christmas tree farm with me and organizes knitting circles at all the facilities where she sings.

We have so many pairs of knitted booties for this baby, we could decorate every tree back home with them.  Mom loves her and she and her father have forged a new relationship since he moved here.  Pauline is flying in from London late tonight and hopes to be here when the baby is born.

Downstairs, applause greets us as Eve makes her way into the great room and to the waiting piano.  She’s more beautiful than ever and I’m the proudest fuck here knowing I’m the one that gets to wake up next to this goddess every day.

She takes her seat and starts to play.

For the next hour, I’m as lost in her voice and the music as I was from the first time I heard her.

“Okay everyone.”  She smiles at the crowd. “One more song, any requests?”

My mother’s hand flies up and she doesn’t wait for Eve to say anything else.  “Baby It’s Cold Outside!  That’s our favorite song.  Isn’t it dear?”

Eve’s father just smiles and nods.

“Of course.”  Eve smiles my way and I softly shake my head.  It’s the same every year and it reminds us both of the Christmas two years ago that gave me the best gift of my life.

My wife.

Eve sings away, and I can’t believe it’s possible but her voice is even more beautiful with the baby putting pressure on her insides. It deepens her tone, gives her a full, resonant sound.  I’m lost in the tune, and so is everyone else.  When she finishes, those audience members who are able to give her a standing ovation, and she looks adorable sitting there blushing at the praise.

I stand to go over and help, her but as she stands, her eyes go wide and she looks my way.

I rush to her side as her arms go around her belly.

“It’s time.”

“Baby.”  I smile.

“Like, it’s really time.  I thought I felt a twinge while I was singing, but this is no twinge.  I think this baby is coming like now.

From there it’s a frantic rush to get the car and speed to the hospital, where they haul us both up to a birthing room in double-quick time.

Half an hour later, we’re both crying as the doctor hands us a little girl and I brush some hair back from Eve’s forehead, looking down at our beautiful daughter.

“You did so good, baby.  I’m so proud of you.”

She smiles at me and I run a finger down the tiny nose in the blanketed bundle in her arms.

“She’s looks like you.”  I choke on the words, tears streaming down my face.

Eve reaches over to lay a hand on my arm with a little squeeze. “She’s our own perfect little Christmas miracle.”

“I thought I was happy before.  I can’t even explain how this feels.  It’s like I’ve grown an entirely new heart just for her.  I promise, forever, I’ll take care of all of us.”

“I know you will.  You already do.”

“Merry Christmas, baby.”  I press my lips to her forehead.  “Let’s name her Noelle.  Our first Noelle.”

“That’s perfect.”

“No baby. You’re perfect.  This is perfect.  My life is perfect.”  The words catch in my throat.  “All because of you.”
