Blood of the Alpha (Full Moon Series Book 7) by Mia Rose (15)

Once a Dick

“There is no history of how bad became better.”

Kelvin laid on his bed with his laptop resting against his curled-up legs. He logged on and went to the internet. Out of curiosity, he thought he’d see what Kat searched for while he’d been out getting her the lip balm. He clicked the search history button. He expected to see shopping pages or some other girly stuff.

It's blank.

He thought about what she would be searching for that she felt the need to delete the history on. He thought it strange, and he would ask her once she was awake. He put the laptop on the side of the bed and closed his eyes. Kelvin smiled as he thought about how Gabriel surprisingly jumped as he tapped on the door.

What a wimp being scared of a small nightmare.

Kelvin fell asleep

He stood under the streetlight and looked back into the darkness. He heard them, nevertheless, but he couldn’t see the things that made the noise. His breath bellowed from his lungs as he gasped, plumes of his breath filled the cold night air as his chest lifted and fell from the running he’d done to escape from the clutches of the things. Kelvin wasn't scared of the dark. His eyes could focus if he called on his inner wolf. But now, he could not see past the glow of the light that hummed above his head.

Slowly the dim glow appeared from the depths of the darkness. A pale and pink hue approached, and Kelvin could see the eyes, unblinking, they neared the circle of light. A second set followed and stood next to the pink. These amber eyes glowed much brighter.

Then another… this time yellow.

And suddenly, another pair of eyes appeared to his side. The violet glow was accompanied by a low growl that filled the silence. Finally, blue eyes appeared in the middle. They were much higher than the others. Kelvin turned his head quickly as the eyes started to circle him. If he didn’t move soon, it’d all be over, and they would be all over him like a rash. Kelvin glanced over his shoulder. The next light was at least a block away. He couldn’t outrun the things that owned the eyes. Not in his human form. He fought for his breath as he started to call upon his inner wolf. A second or two and he would’ve shed his human form, and then he’d run through the darkness to the next light.

Kelvin flexed his arms as the eyes started to move forward, and forms of faces were slowly lit. He expected to see the vlads or the daywalkers as they entered the light.

"Kelvin," he heard in the dark behind him. A kind, soft voice. Kat?

"Kat, you’d better run, it's not safe here," he uttered over his shoulder as he maintained his fix on the kaleidoscope of colored eyes that slowly emerged from the dark.

"It's okay, Kelvin, everything's gonna be okay," Kat murmured.

He turned his head quickly. Kat walked into the golden glow of the light. She was dressed in figure-hugging leggings and a sports vest.

Now, that's a funny way to dress for a cold night like this.

Kelvin never noticed the flash of emerald green from her eyes as he turned back to the growls that stealthily emerged from the dark. He turned back to face the drooling jaws of

He felt Kat's hands on his shoulders. The next thing he felt was the warmth of his blood running down his own arm. He stood, bemused. "It's painless, can't you see that?" he heard her say.

He tried to turn his neck back to face her. The light from above vanished as the pack descended on him.

Kelvin tried to scream

Kelvin felt wet

Is that my own blood?

He opened his eyes in a start. He looked down. His shirt was soaked with sweat.

God, that was just a dream, but it felt so real. Gabriel wasn't fucking kidding.

He swung his legs off the bed and stood. He pulled his wet t-shirt from his body and walked to the living room area. Kat sat up in bed and smiled. He walked over as he noticed her eyes running over his muscled physique. He leaned close on the bed and stared into her eyes.

Kat pulled her head back in surprise. "Hang on a minute, what are you doing?"

Kelvin stood upright and smiled. "I only wanted to see the color of your eyes," he remarked. "I see they’re hazel." He smiled and stepped back from the bed.

Kat shook her head. Her gaze was still fixed on him. "I thought you might have something else in mind… coming from the bedroom with no shirt on." He shook his head. "I thought stalker-Kelvin was going to ravish my weakened body," she said, in a cute and humorous tone.

He shook his head sighing. "Nah! It was the strangest of dreams. I was being chased. All I saw was eyes. Then I saw blood running down my arm, and then it went dark as a pack of things pushed me to the ground," he explained.

"You had a nightmare?"

"Hell yeah! I laughed at Gabriel when he told me about the one he woke up from, but fuck, it was so lifelike."

"It must be the pressure of everything that's happening, there can't be anything physical behind it," Kat said. "But why did you look into my eyes?"

Kelvin sat on the edge of the bed and took hold of her hand. His fingers caressed the soft skin as he felt her knuckles. He looked down her slender fingers, and lovingly at her long fingernails.

He lifted his head. "I thought you were the one who bit me."

* * *

Gabriel's eyes were fixed on Jemma's cleavage as she leaned over the bar. The cold bottles of beer sat in small pools of ice, from cold condensation that ran and formed on the wooden bar.

"It's been a while," she said to Gabriel as Tanya walked to the jukebox.

"We’ve been tied up, and a few things have happened. And most of it has to do with these vampire-werewolves."

Jemma leaned forward and pushed her arms together, her cleavage tightened against her chest. "I thought there was another reason why you hadn't shown your face," Jemma remarked.

Gabriel frowned. "What other reason could there be for not coming here?" he asked.

Jemma stood and cupped her breasts. The sweet mounds swelled in her fingers. Gabriel felt an instant arousal.

"Gab!"

"Gab!"

"Hello, Gabriel? Stop daydreaming, will you," he heard from Tanya at the side of him.

"I thought you were by the jukebox?"

Tanya shook her head. "Nah! I've been sat here all the time," she replied.

Gabriel looked around for Jemma. He saw no sign, although Sky was there, wiping glasses behind the bar. "Is Jemma around?" he asked.

"Afraid not, she's gone to the wholesaler for some supplies," Sky replied.

Now this is getting freaky.

"What’s wrong?” Tanya put her hand on Gabriel’s shoulder. “Gab, you look worried."

"I keep having dreams, and not only at night. I just snapped out of one right now." He began running his fingers through his short hair.

"What was this dream about?" Tanya asked.

Oh boy! I can’t say it was all about Jemma's breasts. That would go down like a lead balloon.

"You know, it was about these vampire things we’re dealing with." What a liar, I am. There must be some reasoning behind it. That's two dreams, sexual dreams…. I have had about Jemma. "Do you believe there is truth in dreams?"

Tanya put her hand on Gabriel’s leg and gently stroked his muscular thigh. Her hand moved from his knee to his crotch. "Now, that all depends on what the dreams are about."

"I think it’s all this thought about leaving to find a shaman, and these things," he commented as he lied more.

Tanya rubbed her hand harder against his leg and quickly brushed her fingers over the bulge of his jeans. Gabriel licked his lips and pushed the bottle to his mouth before tilting his head back and swallowing.

"I can take your mind off the dreams," she commented in a provocative tone.

"Don't I know it! You have one hell of an appetite." He grinned.

Tanya asked Gabriel his plan on when they would leave. He initially thought when the pack was safe would be the best time. Maria briefly mentioned that plans could and would quickly change, so it’d be within the next week. Gabriel still needed to clear up a few things. T's to cross and I's to dot, ready for their travel into unknown territory. One of the main things was transport. He never owned or felt the need to have a vehicle for all the time he was a resident in the Creek.

"You know, we don't have transport," he said. "The only vehicle we have access to, is Dustin's old Ford van, but that's a commercial vehicle so we’re all gonna have to pile in the back."

"Why did he own that?"

"You know what the older generation is like, maybe he was hanging onto the old surfing day memories."

"You’re saying that as if he’ll be going in the same direction as us when we leave," Tanya remarked.

Gabriel pondered for a moment. "Pack attitude. I was thinking we’re all gonna stick together."

"Once a wolf, always a wolf," Tanya said. He nodded and smiled.

Jemma came through and leaned on the bar. Gabriel diverted his eyes. "It's been a while since you’ve been around here," she said.

"Well, it's all this stuff that's going on with these vampire-werewolves, we've been tied up a little," he remarked.

Jemma placed her hands onto the bar. She giggled and leaned forward. "I thought there was a good reason why you hadn't shown your faces," she replied as she reached into the ice bucket and pulled out a couple of cold bottles. Gabriel was stunned at the similarity occurring, but there was no breast rubbing, this time.

Tanya sipped on her beer as Gabriel chatted with Jemma about the events of the vlads increasing in numbers. The pack from the Towers found themselves safe, so far. That was the last thing she heard Gabriel say as she slipped into a world of her own and started to think how their journey would be, and where they’d end up.

Where were they going? Kelvin mentioned there might be shamans in New Orleans, so that was the first stop. If that didn't work out, Tanya had no idea where they’d have to go to. And the vlads, if numbers increased that fast, would they be faced with them wherever their travels took them? Could they turn that many people so fast? And would they be interested in Gabriel becoming a wolf again? Kelvin was the key. They couldn't leave him to fend on his own. Maria, Dustin, or Gabriel wouldn’t let that happen. We will travel together. Safety in numbers.

"Hey Gab," Tanya said as she snapped out of her thoughts. "Gab, where are you?" She turned her head and saw Gabriel at the jukebox. She slipped from her stool and walked between the half-empty tables and stood next to him. "I think we’re going to have to travel together. Kelvin will have to be under our watchful eye. All of us," she said.

"I did think the same thing. There's no way we can leave him behind, and I know he doesn't have a place to call home anymore," he replied, now pushing his fingers against the buttons of the jukebox.

Tanya watched as the arm of the old jukebox came out from its slot. The discs turned and stopped. The black disc fell onto the turntable, and the arm fell. "It's amazing, this old technology," she commented.

Gabriel giggled as he put his arm around Tanya's shoulder. "This is a mockup, these aren’t real discs. The songs are too new."

"That's a freakin’ con if I ever saw one," she replied.

They walked back toward the bar as the music started. Gabriel began to sing. "Blue moon, now I'm no longer alone, without a dream in my heart, without a love of my own."

"Jesus Gab, you’re the worst singer I’ve ever heard, don't give up the day job, as they say. What is your job, anyway? You’ve never mentioned your work."

"I’ve never worked a day in my life. The most I've ever done is help Declan around the Towers. Don't forget I came from a wealthy family," he replied.

"Where are your parents?"

"Dead as dodos, both of them. Maybe that's why I’ve always been a bit of a dick," he replied as he swung his leg back over his stool.

"Come on Gab, who thinks that you’re a bit of a dick?" Tanya asked.

Gabriel smiled and spun to face Tanya as he answered. "Almost everyone I’ve ever met. Except you!"
