“I have someone I want you to meet,” Peter says as I take a seat at my desk. My next patient doesn’t arrive for another hour so I thought I would give him a call and catch up since I haven’t talked to him all weekend. “He’s not as hot as Mr. Tall, Dark, and Tattooed but he’s still pretty hot.”

“What did I tell you about trying to play matchmaker?”

This is not the first time Peter has tried to get me to meet someone but I always tell him no. I’m not ready for a romantic relationship with anyone. Not yet anyway.

Peter continues, ignoring my blatant disinterest. “Remember my friend Kody?”

“The yoga instructor?”

“Yes, it’s his older brother, Kale.”

I laugh, leaning back in my chair to look out the window, watching as the rain pours down, wishing I was at home in my bed watching a movie with Lyla. “Like the vegetable?”

“Exactly, but he’s far from bland. He had a little get-together over the weekend and, honey, he’s perfect for you. Super nice guy. He has a good job. Nice house. Great taste in clothes and oh my God, he’s so funny.”

“You sure he doesn’t hit for your team?”

Peter laughs. “Trust me, if he did he would already be mine. He’s the total package and the best part is, I showed him a photo of you and he’s dying to meet you.”

I groan. “Peter, please don’t show strangers photos of me.”

“Then I guess you’re going to be really pissed when I tell you that I kinda gave him your phone number, too.”

“You did what?”

“I’m sorry but I’m doing this for your own good. If nothing else just let him give you a good dicking down.”

“I don’t need a dicking down.”

“Oh, sweetheart, but you do, you just don’t know it. That’s what friends like me are for.”

“To annoy the piss out of me?”

“No, to make sure you don’t let your vagina shrivel up.”

“I’m done talking to you.”

“Don’t do it for me, do it for your vagina,” Peter shouts just before I end the call.

I toss my phone on my desk, burying my face in my hands. I’m going to kill Peter. I don’t need his help and neither does my vagina. It’s working just fine, thank you very much. Even if it hasn’t been touched in a long time.

Thankfully, I don’t receive a call from anyone named Kale, and I finally breathe a sigh of relief when Asher shows up for his appointment at four.

He stretches his long legs out on the couch in front of me, making himself comfortable. He’s wearing his full uniform today, the badge on his chest glinting at me each time he makes the slightest movement, and the way my thighs clench in appreciation is proof that my vagina is, in fact, not dead.

“How was the rest of your weekend?” I ask, folding my hands over the notepad in my lap.

“Boring,” he replies.

“Did you have any urges?

He raises a brow. “You mean did I fuck anyone?”

I swallow thickly. The way he says the word fuck causes the heat to rise in my cheeks.

“No, Doc. I didn’t fuck anyone. Hell, I didn’t even think about fucking anyone. Except you.”

His eyes are hooded.

Intense.

And it has my body tingling with awareness. I shift in my seat, knowing I need to put a stop to this. To tell him there’s no way that will ever happen, but I can’t bring myself to do it, because right now, he’s all I want and I don’t care how wrong it is.
