Chapter 14

Sam

It was hard to believe that two months had passed by since Paul had proposed to him. Sam planned out the wedding for the two of them. It was going to be a summer wedding outdoors. Sam already had the perfect spot picked out. There was a mansion that people could rent out for weddings in town. The place was considered a historical site so it was mostly funded by the state, donations, and by people that wanted to use it for personal events.

Sam felt uneasy that morning though. His stomach was upset for some reason. He had already visited the restroom several times. He made an appointment with his doctor. He couldn’t be sick on his wedding day. That would be a disaster.

Sam sat in the waiting room for the doctor. His fingers fiddled together as he looked around at the pictures on the wall. When the doctor finally came in, Sam explained his symptoms to him. The doctor put his stethoscope on and placed it against Sam’s chest. “Breath in and out. Deep breaths.”

The doctor kept moving the stethoscope around before he placed it against Sam’s stomach. He listened for a few minutes before he pulled the stethoscope off. “There is nothing wrong with you as far as I can tell. You seem to be in good health for a pregnant person.”

Sam jaw dropped open as he stared in disbelief at the doctor. “I’m pregnant?” His hand moved up to caress across his stomach. He looked down at himself. He didn’t look pregnant. “Are you sure?”

The doctor nodded his head. “Yes. Very sure. You are about six to eight weeks along I would say. You should come in for regular appointments to check on your health as well as the baby.” The doctor scribbled some information onto a notepad and ripped the paper off to give it to Sam. “Make an appointment with the nurse before you leave for a follow up. Congratulations.”

Sam walked out of the doctor’s office. His hand moving over his stomach. He was pregnant! He couldn’t wait to tell Paul the news. He drove to Paul’s apartment with excited glee. He knocked on Paul’s door a few times before he heard the man calling out. “The door is open. Come on in!”

Sam opened the door and entered into the apartment. Paul was in the kitchen fixing a sandwich for lunch. Sam was not sure how to break the news to him. He walked over to the table to sit down. “Paul. I have something to tell you. Maybe you should sit down for this.”

Paul had taken a bite of his sandwich when Sam said that. A worried expression came over his face. “Is everything alright? Did something happen with the wedding plans?” Paul put his sandwich down and came over to the table. He sat down next to Sam.

Sam reached out to take Paul’s hand into his own. “No. Nothing is wrong with the wedding plans. Everything is fine there.” Sam took a deep breath. The look of joy came over his face as he decided to blurt it out. “Paul. I’m pregnant! We’re going to have a baby!”

The alpha had a blank stare. The words had to sink in and for him to process what had been said. He smiled, standing up from the table. “I’m going to be a father? You’re pregnant. That means I am going to be a dad.” His hands moved back across his head as he took it all in.

Sam stood up from the table and grinned. “Yes! You are going to be a father.” He reached out to take hold of Paul’s hand. The alpha suddenly wrapped his arms around Sam and picked him up. He spun him around in a tight hug before he lowered him back to the floor.

Paul kissed Sam passionately on the lips. “Oh, you have made me the happiest man on the planet. I am glad that I am getting married to you.” Paul looked at this small apartment. “I think we need to find a new place together. I don’t have enough room here. We can look for a place after the wedding.”

A month later, they were standing at the altar together. The priest reciting the wedding vows for them repeat. Sam looked at the beautiful gold ring that Paul had picked out. The handsome alpha slipped the ring onto his finger and then held his hand. They stared into each other’s eyes, feeling more alive and loved in that moment. Sam knew he had the right man this time.

The priest announced them as married and they walked out of the chair hand in hand. Their friends and family greeted them outside of the mansion to throw confetti on them as they got into a limo to head off to their honey moon.
