American Stepbrother by Jenna Milford (6)

Chapter 6

ADAM

“Adam?” The delivery boy asked, looking down at the receipt.

“Yup. That’s me.”

“Great. Do you mind just signing here?” He handed me a pen.

I quickly scribbled my name on the receipt before grabbing the bag of food and carrying it inside. The aroma was already seeping through the bag, making my stomach grumble even louder.

In the kitchen, Chloe was standing beside the fridge, bent over slightly. Her hips swayed back and forth. I bit the inside of my lip, trying to will myself to look away, but to no avail. Her low-riding jeans hugged her curves to perfection, making her ass look round and inviting. A part of me wanted to reach down and smack it. Just peeking over the waistband of those jeans was a sliver of purple-colored panties. Was that lace?

I stepped forward, unable to control myself, but when I did, she must have heard me because she whipped around. “What are you doing?”

“Just wondering what you’re doing with your head in the fridge,” I said quickly, trying to play off the fact that I had just stared at my soon-to-be stepsister. To my horror, I felt my cock stir in my pants. Thankfully, I was wearing loose fitting sweatpants so my erection wasn’t blatantly obvious. Still, I hurried behind the island, just to make sure.

She narrowed her eyes at me. “You okay?”

“Dandy.”

“Uh huh, sure. Anyway, where do you guys keep the drinks?”

“What do you want?”

“Just some water.”

“Grab a cup and you can fill it from the dispenser,” I said, thrusting my thumb in the direction of the water cooler. “Do you mind filling a cup for me as well?”

“Sure.” She got on her tippy toes in order to grab two mugs from the cabinet.

It was then that I noticed just how short she was. She couldn’t be more than five feet. Given that I was almost 6’5, she really was a little girl compared to me.

“What are you smiling on about?” She asked as she slid my cup in front of me.

“Just how short you are.”

She pouted. “I’m not that short! I went to the doctor just the other day and I’ll have you know I’m 5’1.” She announced, sticking out her chest like she was proud of the fact.

“That’s pretty short.”

“I have a friend who is 4’10.”

“Well, that’s just unfortunate.”

“What’s wrong with being short anyway?” she asked, pulling our food from the bag.

“Nothing. It’s probably even beneficial to you since you are always falling. Can’t get too hurt if you’re already close to the ground,” I teased.

Her expression darkened. I could almost see a little storm cloud hovering over her head.

Angrily, she tore at the cover of her container until it came flying off and across the room.

“Whoa there, tiny Hulk.”

She gave me such a dirty glare, that if looks could kill, I’d be dead three times over.

“Okay. Okay. I’ll go easy on you. I don’t want you crying to your mommy that I’m a bully.”

She jabbed her fork into a piece of chicken. She was rather cute when she was mad. Her cheeks were painted in a soft pink hue, making her freckles stand out. Her button nose was scrunched up ever so slightly. Lips pressed together into a hard, unforgiving line.

I wonder what it would feel like to kiss those lips…

Wait. What was I thinking?

I pushed the thought from my mind as I tore through my noodles.

After a few minutes, however, I started to feel a little strange. My tongue felt like it was swelling inside my mouth, growing to the size of a boulder. Then my lips lost feeling. I reached up and touched my cheeks, my skin burning hot.

Oh no.

I got up quickly, heading for the bathroom.

“Adam?”

I barely heard her as I rummaged through the medicine cabinet, looking for EpiPen. Where was it? Where the hell was it?

“Adam?” Chloe appeared in the doorway. “Oh my God. Your face.”

At this point, I was wheezing for breath, feeling like my throat had collapsed and I was breathing through a straw.

“You’re having an allergic reaction, aren’t you?” her voice sounded panicked. Quickly, she joined me on the search for my EpiPen.

My legs felt like jelly, forcing me to sit down on the toilet. A cold sweat covered every inch of my body. I leaned forward, my head between my knees, trying to gulp in much-needed air.

It was no use. Without the EpiPen, I was done for.

“I don’t see it… please tell me you have another one somewhere…”

I nodded my head. “J-j-j…” I tried to speak but my lips were so swollen that it was impossible.

“Adam. You got to tell me where it is.” Chloe looked me in the eye, her tone serious. “Quickly.”

I mimed that I was putting on a jacket, hoping she would understand.

Instantly, she ran out of the room.

I focused on my breathing. Each breath drew in less and less air. My time was running out…

Each second dragged on for an eternity.

Please… Chloe… you got to find it.

Suddenly, she barged back into the room, panting. In her hand was my much-needed EpiPen.

Before I truly knew what was going on, she pulled me onto the bathroom floor, laying me on my back.

I reached for her hand, but my movements were so sluggish and slow that I just grabbed at the empty air.

Chloe was between my legs.

I lifted my head slightly, watching her with confusion.

With shaking fingers, she started to untie the waistband on my pants.

I wanted to stop her, but my body felt like it was made of lead.

When she couldn’t undo the knot, she simply yanked them down my hips. A second later, she plunged the EpiPen into my upper thigh, depressing the valve and sending the life-saving medicine into my system.

I closed my eyes, feeling it take effect. My heart rate slowed to a normal rhythm. My body no longer felt like it was burning up. After a few minutes, my tongue even deflated a bit.

“Thank you…” I wheezed, still finding it hard to get enough air into my lungs.

“I need to call you an ambulance…” Chloe’s voice took on a distressed tone.

“It will take forever to get here. My dad’s old station wagon is in the garage. You’ll have to drive me. Please tell me you have a license.”

Chloe’s hands were still on my thighs. Her fingers dug into them as I told her what she needed to do.

“Chloe…”

“What?”

“Your hands.”

She looked down and immediately removed them.

“Sorry! It’s just… I had to. I didn’t have a choice…”

“It’s fine. Can you help me up?” I said, trying to ignore the fact that my cock was slowly coming to life through the thin fabric of my boxer briefs.

She nodded, pressing a hand to the small of my back. When she touched me it was like a jolt of electricity ran up right through me. It traveled up my spine before settling in my chest, wrapping around my heart. I looked up at her, our eyes locking. Those green eyes of her were so beautiful…

Neither one of us moved as we continued to gaze at each other. It was like the whole world had come to a halting standstill. “Chloe…”

My voice seemed to break her out of her trance because she suddenly pulled away. “We need to go before you experience biphasic anaphylaxis…”

I nodded, and with her help, I got to my feet. Dizziness washed over me causing me to close my eyes tight.

“Are you okay?”

“Yeah. Let’s just go,” I said, taking a deep breath through my nose before I opened my eyes. “You know how to drive, don’t you?”

“In England…”

“Don’t worry. It’s the same thing. Just make sure you drive on the opposite side of the road.”

She nodded, but I could tell by the paleness of her skin that she was extremely nervous. Gently, I took her hand in mine, squeezing it. “Hey, don’t look so scared. I’m going to be okay. I promise.” Without thinking about it, I reached out and pinned a strand of her hair behind her ear.

Her eyes searched mine, her brows twitching in confusion. She was probably trying to figure out why I had done that.

To be honest, I didn’t know myself.

She blinked, shaking her head. “Let’s go, then.” She wrapped my arm around her shoulders and started to help me out of the bathroom.

“Chloe.”

“What?”

“My pants are still down.”

“Oh…” Her fair skin immediately turned a bright shade of red. While looking away, she bent down and pulled them back up my legs, letting them settle on my hips.

I had the urge to tease her about it, but I didn’t want to make her any redder than she already was. I feared if I did, her head would explode.

“Do you need a shirt?”

“Might help.”

Together, we shuffled toward my bedroom. If she had been any other girl, I probably would have made some lewd comment right about now. But, she had saved my life. I would go easy on her… for tonight, anyway.
