Sabine

Sabine glared at the blonde-haired thug sitting in the corner of the room.

“You can keep staring at me, but I’m not leaving,” the biker informed her, as he flipped the channel on the television.

“I want to know what you bastards did with my sister?” Sabine coughed out her demand.

“I already told you as much as I know. Now if you insist on working yourself into a fit, I’m going to call the nurse to have her sedate you.”

“You might have the hospital fooled, but not me.” Sabine’s fist shook as she railed at MD.

MD was in her face so fast, Sabine fell back in bed.

“You are so damn stubborn. Your job is to get well. And I’m here to see to it they don’t kick you out of the hospital. But your little fits aren’t helping. Wolf will take care of your sister. Now rest!”

Sabine watched MD’s full lips as he snarled at her. His blue eyes flashed in frustration.

“I’m sure he is,” she replied undaunted.

Sabine should’ve heeded the alarms going off in her head, when Ella told her she was working for a biker gang in exchange for rent. Ella was so infatuated with Wolf, something that was rare, that Sabine repressed the niggling concern. Her sister could take care of herself. That’s what Sabine told herself. Then Ella went missing.

Sabine knew money had been tight, even though Ella tried to hide it. She hated the position they were in. Ella had always taken care of her, selflessly. More than once, Sabine debated giving up, so Ella could lead her life with one less obstacle. Sabine shook her head angrily. It was her fault, Ella fell into the wrong hands.

Sabine glared at the overgrown thug who showed up at the hospital. MD claimed Wolf sent him. He then pulled some crazy manipulative shit, so he could stay in her room twenty-four seven. Sabine was certain it was to keep her from calling the cops. He’d even gone so far as to disable the phone.

Sabine refused to be threatened, as MD loomed over her. He was a beast. He didn’t even fit in his own clothes. His t-shirt stretched taught across his broad chest, showing off his pecs and thick arms. Sabine had no doubt he’d physically shut her up if she started to yell for help. It wouldn’t matter anyway. The gullible nurses swooned every time they entered the room. MD had them wrapped around his finger.

“Get away from me, you brute,” she tried to snarl, but it came out more of a stutter, much to her ire.

“Then take a nap. You get cranky after physical therapy.”

“Fine,” Sabine huffed.

Sabine tried to pull her blankets up, but she was so agitated her fingers refused to work.

“Here,” MD reached out.

“I’ve got it. Go away,” Sabine insisted.

Sabine tried to grip the cover, but it slid through her fingers. She tried again, the frustration overwhelming her.

MD brushed her hands aside and pulled the blanket past her chest, tucking it around her pathetic arms. He tucked back a lock of dark hair that had fallen in her face, then sat back down.

Sabine turned her head to hide the tears that started streaming down her cheeks. She wanted to fight to find her sister, but she couldn’t even pull up the damn blanket.

Bella Bear, Sabine quietly cried for her missing sister. Please be okay, she begged.

“Hey now,” MD spoke softly, suddenly standing by her side again.

Sabine hadn’t even heard him approach. She tried to hide her face when MD rounded the bed, but it was pointless. Sabine shivered when his warm fingers gently lifted her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze.

“I know you don’t believe me, but I promise you, my people are doing everything they can to find your sister. If anyone can bring her home safe, they will.”

MD’s blue eyes were so sincere, she almost got lost in them. Sabine truly wanted to believe him. Sabine shook off the soft notion. She refused to let the biker work his way under her skin. She wasn’t a fool. She wouldn’t be swayed by a few acts of kindness, not with Ella’s safety on the line.

I may not be able to do much, but I’ll figure out what’s happened, Sabine promised her sister.

She just needed to bide her time with her blonde babysitter. He couldn’t watch her every hour of the day. Sabine just hoped she didn’t fall victim to those eyes and that cocky smile in the meantime.
