Casual: Part 2 (Power Play Series Book 10) by Kelly Harper (2)

Chapter 3

I skip my room and head directly for Bre’s. I need to get everything that happened off my chest and I really don’t want to be alone, right now. Of course, as my luck would have it, Bre isn’t in her room when I get there. She’s probably off with Collin somewhere having the time of her life while I’m stuck in this miserable mansion.

Not wanting to go anywhere else I slump against the door and curl myself into a little ball. I can feel the eyes of the house staff on me as they pass by. They’re probably all wondering what is going on with the crazy girl that Logan brought out for the weekend, but I don’t care. They can think what they want. I’m over it.

Thankfully it isn’t long before Bre comes back to her room. I was determined to sit here all day if I had to, but I’d much rather not have strangers staring at me every few minutes.

Waiting on Bre has given me a chance to cool down. At least to the point where I’m not still seeing red and wanting to break things. Replacing the anger is a cold lump of emptiness in the pit of my stomach. I’m not worried about destroying some expensive antique anymore, but I’m not sure that what I’m feeling now can be called an improvement.

Bre’s brow furrows as soon as she sees me.

“Aren’t you supposed to be off playing sex kitten with the rich guy that owns this place?”

Hearing her voice brings a wave of emotions to the surface. I grit my teeth and suck in a breath. Logan won’t get any of my tears. I obviously barely know him and he’s already proven he’s not worth it.

“He has a fiancée,” I say.

Bre rolls her eyes and shakes her head.

“Fucking men!” She lets out a sigh. “Come on, tell me everything that happened…”

Bre isn’t exactly my first choice for people I’d want around during an emotional crisis, but she’s still a friend. And sometimes just having a friend around is enough to get you through a tough spot.

I follow her into her room and we pile onto the bed as I explain everything that happened this morning after waking up next to Logan. I think the nicest thing Bre calls Logan through the whole exchange is a ‘fucking asshat’—her creative mastery of the English language is commendable.

When I finish recounting everything that happened, Bre’s brow furrows and gives me a suspicious look.

“You’re sure you heard him correctly?” she asks, suspiciously.

“Oh, trust me, Mara made it very clear. They’re definitely together.” I shake my head in disbelief. “She was all over him. Like it was the most natural thing in the world. And that ring…”

Bre rolls her eyes.

“What a tramp…”

I nod my head in agreement.

“I hope she doesn’t act like that all the time, it would get pretty sickening.”

Bre gives me a flat stare.

“I was talking about him.”

I let out a groan.

“How do I keep finding myself in these situations?”

“To be fair, you do seem to be attracted to men who can’t stick to one woman. Logan looks like the kind of guy who has women throwing themselves at him left and right.”

I give an uneasy shift. The last thing I want to be thinking about right now is my recent track history with men.

“He even told me that there wasn’t anyone else.”

“Are you sure you heard him correctly? Maybe he was saying, other than my fiancée, there’s nobody else…

Bre’s imitation of a deep man-voice brings a much-needed smile to my face. She grins when she realizes her efforts weren’t in vain.

“He definitely said he was single. That’s not exactly one of those things I would get confused.”

Bre scrunches her lips in the most genuine sad-face I’ve ever seen on her.

“You want to get out of here?” she asks.

I shrug.

“I wasn’t going to at first,” I say. “I was so angry with Logan that I wanted to stick around just to piss him off. But now, I don’t know… It’s going to be pretty awkward after everything that happened.”

Bre looks like she’s about to say something, but then hesitates and catches herself. A confused look from me is the all it takes to break through her thin resolve.

“We can’t leave,” she says, matter of factly.

“Why not?”

“Because… we just can’t.”

The reason for her sudden mood swing finally dawns on me and a smile spreads across my face, despite that empty pit still sitting in my stomach.

“This wouldn’t have anything to do with Collin, would it?” I ask.

Her features immediately hardens into a scowl, leaving no trace of the kind and understanding Bre that had just been giving me advice.

“So what if it does?” she barks. I barely manage to stifle a laugh. Bre’s eyes widen in outrage. “What’s wrong with wanting to spend more time with Collin? He’s a good time!”

I’m not able to hold it back anymore. A deep laugh comes out of me.

“Nothing’s wrong with it. Nothing at all,” I say, after I’m finally able to compose myself. I let out a long breath and shake my head. “Well, at least one of us is having a good time this weekend… I just really wish it was me!”

This time she laughs along with me and I genuinely start to feel better.

“Hey, just think about it this way… it sounds like you’ve got two guys fighting over you and not just one!”

I roll my eyes.

“I don’t think that makes it any better.”

Bre shrugs a shoulder.

“Depends on just how freaky they are… Have you ever had two guys at the same time? Trust me, it can be a lot of fun.”

My eyes widen in surprise as I let out another disbelieving laugh.

“Well this is new information!” I say. “Spill…”

Bre gives me a coy look.

“I’m a woman of varied interests and needs,” is all she says. “Two dicks can be fun, but I’d rather stick with one good one. Collin is definitely a nice little treat…”

Bre gets a devious look on her face that nearly makes me blush. I always knew that Bre had a wild side to her but I may never have fully appreciated just how experimental she is.

“Remind me to never play a game of truth or dare with you,” I say, still laughing.

“You wouldn’t last one round.” When we finally calm ourselves she asks, “So you think you can stick it out another night?”

The pit in my stomach reappears. If I’m being honest, another night here sounds awful. But what are friends for? I can muscle through it.

“It’s just one night,” I say. “Besides, the cat’s already out of the bag. It’s not like Logan can surprise me with any other skeletons popping out of his closet.”

Bre tilts her head and gives me a mischievous look.

“Be careful what you wish for,” she says.

I promise her I will be but I get the feeling that being careful isn’t going to help me much when it comes to Logan.
