Catching Fire: New Rules (Billionaire Romance Series Book 2) by T.N King (24)

A month later…

Ellie had settled into her routine. It was a new one and an old one. She would stay at her apartment during the week to go to school and work. On the weekends, she would be at the mansion. That first night when Morgan escorted her home, he had been happier than she’d ever seen him. She wasn’t at first, as she was still too confused and afraid. When he had left her in the huge living room to fix her something to eat, she had run upstairs and into the bedroom.

There lying on the pillow was her letter…untouched. She had gasped with relief and with her heart pounding; she had torn it up and flushed the pieces down the toilet. God! He had never seen it. How could she have been so dammed lucky? She found out later that he had never come back here as he’d been at the Hunt Hotel.

She and Morgan had their first of making love all over the house. She’d even gotten worn out. But something drove Morgan relentlessly. Every day for all of Spring Break, he would carry her to yet another room and show her as he’d said, “More of the house.” She had chuckled and enjoyed every nuance, every color scheme, every stroke, every lick, gasp and climax.

Yes, and she’d wondered about Chance and—Hillborn. But nothing ever came out about any of it. The image of them nude just disappeared from the net like it had never been there and that bitch had to fess up that she’d made a mistake about her baby being Morgan’s. Some other rich guy said it was his. He wanted to marry her and the paternity test he requested had proved he was the father. Ellie had rolled her eyes. Good luck there.

All Morgan said about Chance at all was that he’d apologized for that detective fucking up and getting carried away by letting that image out.

Ellie never spoke about Williamson trying to kiss her. And funny thing, Morgan seemed to forget all that she had said the day she tried to tell him. She knew Chance had kept it all to himself. Perhaps for the same reason she had—to keep Morgan from screwing up his life over it. Finally, after about a week of no news is good news, she finally let go of all the pent up fear and worry.

Hillborn had supposedly resigned from his Professorship at the college and had retired or so the rumors were. She didn’t fucking care as long as she never saw him again. It nagged at her though. What did Chance do? Or not do? She knew she didn't want to know. She was free of it and knew better than to snoop into it, or go looking for anything that could disturb her current happiness with Morgan.

Today, she waited at the house for a decorator to show up. Morgan had wanted her to decide on the changes in most of the house. She didn’t really see the need, but he’d said he wanted it to be theirs, all the way. Morgan had yet another meeting at Helix, so she was supposed to meet this woman. Ellie knew she could handle it. She had finally accepted that she could fit into his world and she would make him proud.

The doorbell chimes rang and Ellie jumped. She would never get used to that. It always sounded like church bells. Laughing, she rushed across the marbled floor and looked up at the camera to the outside. Morgan had many security cameras and motion detectors installed here. At the same time, he’d told her he had the same company take care of the apartment while he was at it. Ellie hadn’t argued. No, for her own reasons, she felt glad after he’d had it done.

Gazing at the woman who stood there in camera view, her brow wrinkled. This didn't look like a decorator.

She was gorgeous for one thing and her clothes were off the charts expensive. Ellie figured they made a lot of money, so who was she to judge? She tapped in the code Morgan had given to her to memorize and the double doors swung open.

The woman stared at her, a glittering gleam in her eyes.

Ellie stared back. Well, that just rude. She’d better not treat me like trash or she will be fired promptly. Ellie had a new confidence, after what she had been through, all that she’d endured; it would take something huge and ghastly to knock her off her game now.

Smiling, she stepped forward.

The woman hissed at her. “Who the fuck are you?”

Ellie’s smile dropped away. “W-what?”

Moving closer, the woman actually sneered at her.

Okay, this was more than enough rudeness. Ellie replied, “You need to change your tone and that shitty attitude. I won’t tolerate any disrespect, Miss?” She now glared back at the audacious bitch in Channel.

The woman gazed all around, ignoring her and her glare. “Where is Morgan?”

Ellie furrowed her brows. “He doesn’t need to be here and you need to address him as Mr. Hunt!”

The woman swung her blazing gaze back to Ellie. “I ask again, who are you and why the hell are you standing in my Fiancé’s house?”

Ellie simply stared at her, unblinking. This could not be happening.

The woman rolled her eyes even while she looked gratified. “Oh, I see, he didn’t tell you.”

Ellie felt like the world just upended and she couldn’t seem to right it.

Things just got ghastly and huge.
