Claiming His Fate: An M/M Shifter MPreg Romance (Scarlet Mountan Pack Book 4) by Aspen Grey (7)

Seth

Get your hands off him! I was raging. Inside I was a pot ready to boil over – a volcano ready to blow. My wolf had already been unleashed, but my primal urges were screaming.

Kade had his grubby hands all over my fated mate, and I wanted to tear him limb from limb. Nothing in my life up until now could have prepared me for the pure rage that was flooding through me.

He knew I was here – Harry. I saw his body tense up as the breeze brought my scent his way. Of course, Kade had no idea it belonged to me, and since I wasn’t his fated mate, there was no reason for him to be suspicious of the scent of another alpha. But he was taking him away from me anyway, and I had to think fast.

The most obvious decision was to dash out there now and tear his leg muscle off and make a run for it with Harry. But there was no guarantee we would make it, and it was probably much more likely that his goons would be on us before we left the property.

But there was also no telling where he would take Harry, and I couldn’t just stalk after them in wolf form. If I shifted back, I’d be naked, and that would draw more attention than I needed.

I looked around the truck stop lot. Maybe someone had left some clothes lying around that I could use temporarily, but of course that was hopeless. As I looked past a set of double dumpsters, I saw an alpha, drunk off his ass lying with his back against the cold metal.

Shifting back to human form, I quickly walked over to him.

“Hey, mister,” I whispered. “Her, mister. I lost my clothes. You got anything I can borrow?”

The alpha, drunk off his ass, gazed up at me through half-open eyes. When he saw me, he grinned.

“Nice abs,” he chuckled. In his hand, there was a half-finished bottle of whiskey, and his breath stank of alcohol. If he was over here this close, he was probably one of Kade’s.

“Listen, man. I need to borrow your clothes.”

“My clothes!?” He chuckled. “Tell you what, big boy. You take my…my dick outta my pants and…suck it off…you can have whatever you’d like!”

He roared with laughter and I glanced around to make sure he wasn’t drawing any attention. But this must have been par for the course for a place like this, and none of the other alphas in the lot even batted an eye.

“Sorry, man,” I told him. “Can’t do it.”

“Come on, you son of a bitch!” He roared with a sudden burst of energy. “Gimme some sugar!”

He swung wildly at me with the bottle of whiskey. I ducked easily and let the blow soar over my head. His fingers slipped and the bottle slid out of his grasp to land somewhere in the high grass behind me.

“Gah!” He gasped, lurching to his feet. “My drink!”

He stumbled forward, but the poor bastard was drunk off his ass and collapsed after a few steps. He hit the pavement hard, and either the fall knocked him out, or he was just too damn drunk, and he just lay there unconscious.

“Dumb son of a bitch,” I muttered as I pulled his jacket off him and slid my arms into the sleeves. “Don’t mind if I borrow this, do you?”

I slid into his jeans, which were two sizes too big, and his work boots. It was a good thing it was summer or this guy would be freezing his ass off when he woke up. Suitably dressed, I looked up over the dumpsters across the lot.

There was no sign of Harry or Kade.

“Shit!”

With no time to lose, I took a deep breath and set out across the parking lot. Stuffing my hands in my pockets, I kept my head down as I made my way past the rows of trucks and the occasional group of alphas as I headed in the general direction of where Kade had been taking Harry.

Harry’s scent was so strong that it cut right through the rest of the filth in the lot, and I managed to track it to a large tractor-trailer with a completely nondescript white exterior.

There were no other scents that I could make out. No other alphas or omegas, which meant he must have been in there alone. I looked around for Kade or Anthony, but didn’t see them. I readied myself, and took a step forward to the trailer, ready to tug the doors open, when someone stepped up behind me.

I whirled around to face an alpha, who stood slightly shorter than I but was absolutely enormous, like a body builder. He had shaggy blond hair and blue eyes, and wore a pair of camo shorts and a white polo shirt that his arms were about to bust out of.

I was half a second from shifting when he held out a hand – he wanted me to wait. Even though everything in me screamed out that this was the wrong decision, I hesitated.

“You’re not one of Kade’s,” he said. “Who are you?”

“Nobody,” I growled back. “Now just turn around and let me go on my way.”

“Kade’s new omega is in there,” he said suspiciously. “You’re not trying to…get in there, are you?”

“He’s my fated mate!” I hissed, my eyes darting around the lot, searching for more threats. This was bad. I’d been found out, but why hadn’t this alpha just jumped me immediately? Obviously no one was supposed to be back here.

“I see,” he said, nodding and crossing his arms. “My name is Matias. I’m not here to hurt you.”

“No?” I asked, not buying it. “Then what are you here to do?”

“Technically, I’m head of Kade’s security,” he said.

Head of security

“Uh huh,” I muttered, eyeing him up and down. “Well, then why aren’t you…securing me?”

Matias looked hard at me, scrutinizing me, trying to figure out what I was up to – whether I was lying or not.

“You say he’s your fated mate?” He asked. There was something about this alpha that didn’t frighten me. Sure, he’d be a tough bastard if we were to throw down, but he could have already come at me and hadn’t. That had to mean something.

“He is,” I said simply. Matias nodded.

“Get him out of here,” he replied.

What did he just say!?

“Excuse me?” I asked him through clenched teeth. “This some kind of setup or something?”

“No setup,” he told me. “Kade’s a bastard and I hate it here. I want out.”

“So leave,” I told him.

“I can’t,” he replied. “I can’t just leave the omegas here with him. Something has to be done.”

“Well, I can’t help you, pal,” I told him. “Right now I’m getting Harry out of here. If this is a setup, you’re gonna have to bite me in the back.”

Turning away from Matias, exposing my back to him, I took the handles of the back of the truck and pulled.
