I ready the coffee pot as I think about just leaving it all to take her away. Two days is just not enough with her, and I wonder if she has vacation time available. I know I’m staring off into space, trying to wrap my head around just how tangled up I am with her when she makes her way into the kitchen, the warm glow from her recent release is still evident in the flush of her cheeks.

She makes her way to the coffee pot as I settle in at the table with the paper. It feels so very domestic, and I smirk, thinking had I ever been in this situation with a woman before I’d have run for the hills. Scratch that, I NEVER would’ve allowed this situation to occur before her.

My attention is on the Lifestyle section of the Denver Post. “You’re smoking hot, babe!”

“I’m in sweats and a loose t-shirt, Ian, but thanks, I guess.” She finishes perfecting her cup of coffee and walks to the table, sitting in the chair beside me.

I turn the paper around and show her the picture that’s taking up more than half of the front page. She gasps, her hand rising to cover her lips and I can’t decipher her mood. The glow in her eyes could be elation or devastation.

I look from her back down to the picture showcasing us at the Sweetheart’s Gala last night. Apparently my declaration of my sweetheart is major Denver news. The photo is perfect. She’s tucked into my side, and we’re looking at each other with hopeful smiles on our faces.

She lets her eyes cut up to mine. “Wow.” She mutters, pulling her hand from her mouth, her huge smile more evident now.

I read the byline again, “Ian Hale, one of Denver’s most sought after Sexiest Men, goes public with his new relationship in a big way at the 13th Annual Sweetheart’s’ Gala, supporting the SPCA. He’s seen above with girlfriend, Lorali Bennett, columnist for the Denver Currier.”

“I guess this makes it official then, huh?” She takes a slow sip of her steaming coffee. I frown at the look of trepidation on her face like she’s just made a life altering realization.

“What is it? Are you having second thoughts?” I reach my hand out and gently tug her chin up, encouraging eye contact.

“No, it’s just…” She puts her cup down. “I guess I just need to prepare myself for the haters.”

“Haters?” This woman is so frustrating sometimes. “You’re absolutely gorgeous, Lorali. There’ll be no haters and even if there are, what they say doesn’t mean shit to me, and you shouldn’t let it bother you either.”

She slowly nods her head, but I can tell she’s doing it to appease me rather than her own belief in my words.

“Do you know why we’re on the front page?” She shrugs her shoulders.

“Because you’re smoking hot and that sells papers?” She responds grinning at me.

“Well, there’s always that!” I wink at her but lower my voice, so she knows I’m serious and lean into to her. “The reason they’re making such a big deal about us is because it’s a big deal. I’ve never answered relationship questions for the press, and I certainly have not stood in front of a press gauntlet and said the word girlfriend. You’re it for me, Lorali.”

She’s practically beaming at me and leans in and rubs her nose against my own. “I feel like I’m dreaming. Where have you been my whole life?”

“Working and waiting for you.” I kiss her lips.

She pulls away from me. “Waiting? Ha!” She grins and at this moment I wish I was pure. I wish I’d never touched another woman before her but if it’s any consolation, I’ve already forgotten everyone that came before.

I give a slight shoulder shrug. “Well, boys will be boys I guess.” I reach up and wrap my hands around her neck and pull her onto my lap, kissing her with every ounce of passion I have in my person. She melts against me.

“Lorali?” I whisper against her lips. She gives her head the slightest of nods. With her permission, I pick her up; her legs wrapped snuggly around my waist and carry her back to the bedroom. There’s no way I could’ve lasted until this afternoon, but my intentions are for the slowest, most devotional lovemaking I’ve ever experienced. I’m certain I’ll not hear her complaining and being honest I have to smile at the idea that when she goes to work Tuesday she’ll still feel me.
