Dark Edges: The Edge Series by Caldwell, Kane (3)

Chase

“Hey… Chase?”

The way her sweet soft voice had told the old bastard to more or less fuck off as she’d yelled, “Thank you for visiting the Landslide Resort! Please come again!” was a surprise. And it had been hard to hold in my chuckle. I’d had to see for myself that I was dealing with the same woman I bumped into the previous night. And it was. Naomi McAllister in the flesh was fucking phenomenal. Her tight blue sweater hugged her amazing tits and the dark brown fitted skirt clasped that sweet ass just perfectly.

Last night, she looked adorable in her white beanie but today she radiated class. Since I couldn’t see what kind of shoes she was wearing, I envisioned an expensive, stylish pair of fuck-me heels. I bet those heels—

“Chase!”

I blinked, clearing my brain and turned to Lane. “What?”

“Are you even here with us? Where’s your head at, man?” Russell questioned.

“My ass is to the stool, elbows on the bar, and a Jack sitting in front of me. Yeah, I’d say I’m here,” I replied firmly.

“Calm down, man,” Lane expressed. “I’ve been calling you for the past two minutes and you’re off someplace else. What’s going on?”

“Nothing,” I responded and took a swig of my drink.

Lane put his elbows to the bar and cupped his beer in front of him. He slightly rotated on his stool. “You wanna talk about it?”

I placed the glass on the wood top and returned quickly, “Nothing to talk about.”

“Fuck, Chase, when you gonna talk to us, man?” Russell chimed in.

I twisted to my left. “There’s nothing to talk about.”

Russell flung his hand in the air. “Whatever.”

“How’s work?” Lane asked, and I moved my head to face him.

“Fine.”

“You always fucking say that,” Russell groused.

“It is,” I clipped, and moved my eyes past the liquor bottles to look in the mirror lining the back of the bar.

Russell leaned onto the bar and turned his attention to Lane. “Why are we even friends with this fucker anyway?”

“If I recall correctly, it was you two shits that asked me for a jump and then wanted to get me coffee and pie for my troubles,” I retaliated.

“It was a fucking beer and a burger, Chase, in this very place. Three fucking years ago. Not coffee and pie, you bastard,” Russell shot back, teasing.

“Enough, Russell,” Lane cautioned.

“No,” Russell rushed out. “We’ve known him for three fucking years and we don’t know much about him.”

“Russell,” Lane warned him again.

I addressed Russell. “What in the fuck do you wanna know?”

Russell put his ass fully back on the stool and grinned. He thought he was winning this game. The problem was, I always won.

“What do you do for a living?” he asked.

“Told you, I’m a PI.”

“I know, but you don’t ever tell us about your cases,” he badgered before taking a sip of his beer.

“All my cases are confidential,” I clarified.

“Yeah, likely story.” He rolled his eyes before he went on, “Why don’t you talk to your dad?”

I glared at Russell a beat before Lane cautioned firmly, “Russell, enough.”

“I’m outta here,” I stated, then took the last gulp of my drink and moved off the stool.

“No,” Lane bit out. “Russell, have you ever heard of fucking privacy?”

“All right, all right.” Russell tossed his hands in the air. “Sorry, man, just had a shitty day,” he confessed.

“Don’t worry about it,” I assured him and continued, “I’m gonna head out anyway. Have some cases to close,” I lied.

The guys and I said our good-byes and I headed to my car, my second baby, a black Cadillac ATS-V coupe. I’d bought the car on a whim while passing a dealership. They’d had it displayed out front and I couldn’t take my eyes off it. So I made a quick U-turn and within hours, I had myself another new vehicle. When Russell had dropped Lane off so he could drive my truck home, they’d both thought I’d lost my mind, Russell suspecting I’d had a nervous breakdown and shit.

I’d just really liked the car. What was the fucking problem?

I slid into the charcoal-gray leather seat, started her up and headed out of the parking lot, my tires screeching as I pressed my foot down on the pedal. It was late at night and the cars on the road were sparse. Weaving around a minivan, I hit the accelerator, the power of the vehicle had the lights passing by in a blur as Third Eye Blind’s “How’s It Going to Be” blared through the speakers from my playlist.

My right hand rested on the shifter as my thumb tapped out the beat as I eased the shifter into the next gear and maneuvered the smooth ride onto the freeway ramp. I had no idea where I was going; I just knew I wasn’t heading home.

As I drove, her smile passed through my head making me put more weight on the gas as the sensation that had flowed through my body when I touched her arm began to course through my frame once again.

Fuck,” I grumbled under my breath.

My heated blood was pumping through my veins at the same fast speed as the car was going. The image of her in the white bikini flashed behind my eyes. Some of the blood surging through my body flooded into my cock, causing my jeans to become tight making me shift in the seat to ease the pressure.

My car glided to the next off-ramp where I stopped at the intersection and turned left. A few miles ahead, I pulled into the prestigious development called Redwoods. As if I didn’t even have to tell my brain, I turned down the fourth block, did a quick K turn and parked next to the vacant lot. My eyes then automatically focused on the house across the road, studying the brick façade of 794 Redwood Circle. A white Range Rover sat on a cobblestone driveway in front of a three-car garage.

Fuckin’ hell! She should be parking in the garage.

Seeing how everything looked good and she was safe at home, I started to take off when my eyes flew to the movement in the front window Knowing I shouldn’t, but the pull to her was just too strong, I snatched up my binoculars from the center console. After I adjusted the settings, the view of inside cleared and my semierect cock grew, stressing the material of my jeans to the limit at what I saw.

A large glass dining table with a small flower arrangement stood in front of the window. Past that were two floor-to-ceiling pillars about ten feet apart, and beyond them the kitchen. The soft blues, whites, and golds were a far cry from my dark kitchen.

But that wasn’t what was causing my now throbbing cock to strain against my jeans. It was the view in the kitchen that had every fucking nasty sexual position sliding into my brain.

Naomi was wearing a pale pink long-sleeved nightshirt that hit her right below her ass. The material hugged every fucking luscious curve of her body. She came around the island and…

Fuck me!

She had on a pair of white socks that hit right below her knees. Her hips began to sway back and forth in time with her shoulders. The messy bun stirred as she shook her head, her mouth moving, clearly singing. I moved my perfect view down and….

Oh, fuckin’ hell!

Her hard nipples were pressed against her fitted nightshirt and her tits bounced as she began to dance around. I licked my lips and adjusted myself, trying to relieve the painful heaviness in my pants.

That’s it baby, keep moving that fuckin’ body.

Damn!

She turned, giving me a spectacular view of her mouthwatering ass. Her hands gripped the island counter and she dipped low into a squat and….

Ohhh, shit!

Naomi slowly moved up as her hips made gentle circles. I grabbed the door handle, my intense grip causing the plastic to make a cracking sound.  Close, I’d been so close to flying out of the car and storming into her house and fucking her on the kitchen counter…

My hip to the counter, arms crossed over my chest, I watched her. Her body undulated in time to the beat of the music pumping through the kitchen. She turned and smiled at me. That was all I needed to push off the counter and move toward her. I wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her flush against my body, her soft tits pressing into my hard chest.

As my mouth descended onto hers, I gripped her perfect ass. My tongue slowly roamed her mouth, making me harder with the soft moans coming from the back of her throat as she matched my seductive kiss. I grabbed her hair and jerked her head back. Her gasp had her mouth opening wider and I took advantage of it as I deepened the kissed to its limit.

Her arms tightly enclosed my shoulders when I moved my hands to her waist and lifted. Once her ass hit the counter’s edge, I detached my mouth from hers, dropped to my knees, and placed my hands on either thigh spreading her legs. As I looked up into her hazy brown eyes, she pulled her bottom lip into her mouth. That’s when I hooked her legs behind her knees, lifted them, and held them in the air. I looked at her glistening cunt as my mouth—

The sound of my cell ringing echoed through the car speakers and had me shaking my head, trying to erase the dream and quickly dropping the binoculars.

Holy fuck!

I glanced over to the screen in the center of the dashboard. The name on the display had me hitting Accept because it was not normal for her to call this late.

“Everything okay?” I said as my greeting.

“I get that it’s late but geez, Chase, I’m not that old. I can still hang… sometimes,” my sister bit out.

“Calm the fuck down, Jess,” I shot back.

“Whatever, shithead,” she returned.

“Are we done with the mushy stuff yet?” I asked as I picked the binoculars up from the floor of the car.

Jessica giggled softly and that sound always made me smile. “Yeah, I think so.”

“Good, ’cause I can’t take too much of that shit. Now, how’s my boy?” I questioned while I took a chance and looked back at Naomi’s house through the binoculars.

Her head bopping, she reached into the oven and took out what looked like huge muffins. Once she had them on the counter, she turned on her foot and picked up another muffin tin and danced her way back to the oven placing the tray inside.

“Bryce is good and was interrogating me after soccer practice if Uncle Chase is coming this weekend?”

Still watching Naomi, I asked my sister, “This weekend?”

“No,” she quickly answered and kept on, “Tomorrow’s Sunday, next weekend.”

“Yeah, I told you I would be there—”

Jessica cut me off. “Good, ’cause Mom is coming too.”

I moved the binoculars from my eyes. “What?” I shouted.

“Chase, just her, not Dad. He’s going on a fishing trip with his buddies next weekend. Please, for me? It’d make her so happy to see you, please?” she said softly.

I had nothing against my mom. Scratch that, I did hold some animosity toward her. I felt she’d never stood up to my dad when it came to me. When it came to Jessica, she’d been there scooping up her baby girl from the grilling my dad would give her. Me, I had no choice but to stand there and take every word that punched me in the gut and made me feel like less of man.

“Glinda,” I drawled.

“Don’t start with that Glinda shit, Chase. Just say you’ll be here?” Jessica begged.

I’d started teasing Jessica and calling her Glinda years ago. The Wizard of Oz had been her favorite movie when she was a kid. She would tell anyone within a five-foot radius of her whether she knew them or not that she was going to grow up and be Glinda the Good Witch. So, when she’d started hounding me to patch things up with my dad, I began using the nickname.

“My boy expecting me?”

“Yes,” she replied quietly.

“Then I’ll be there,” I told her gently.

She changed the subject and went on to tell me about her problems with the school board. Something about the bake sale she’d been trying to set up. I tuned her out and went back to the beauty I’d been observing.

Naomi stood at the end of the island staring at something on the counter. I watched her pick it up and got a better view of what it was.

I mumbled, “That’s it, baby.”

“Oh my God, Chase, are you with a girl?” Jessica bellowed through my car.

“No!” I quickly insisted. “I’m working a case, doing some surveillance right now.”

“Oh, okay, because that would have been fucked-up.” She chuckled.

“Jess, I wouldn’t have answered.”

“True,” she admitted. “Get back to work, and I’ll see you next Saturday, yeah?”

“Yeah.”

We said our good-byes and I went back to watching Naomi hold the cheap cell phone in her hand.

Do it, baby.

Her fingers moved across the screen of the phone. I could tell she was typing something out. She dropped the cell onto the counter and walked over to a pillar. Leaning against it, she crossed one arm over her belly and chewed a nail on her other hand.

Come on, you can do it.

As if she could hear my coaxing words, she pushed off the pillar and went back to the counter, quickly picked up the phone, tapped the screen, then threw it back on the counter like it had burned her fingers.

I waited.

Not even a minute later, “Heartbeat” by The Fray paused to allow the chime of an incoming e-mail to sound through the speakers.

I smiled as I reached into a compartment in the console and retrieved my phone. I hit the screen a few times and brought up the new e-mail. The subject line read Here goes nothing.

I grinned.
