Dark Killer: A Mafia Romance by Naomi West (12)

Chapter Twelve

Madelyn

The last few weeks had been rough ones, and Madelyn didn’t argue when her wine glass seemed to stay perpetually full. No matter how hard she tried to empty it, the deep red liquid magically replenished itself. She felt a warm flush in her cheeks as she sat back and dabbed at her mouth. “That was an incredible meal. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of this place.”

Enzo gave her that charming smile of his. Goddamn, but he was good looking. “They don’t exactly advertise, you know. It’s by invitation only, so you have to know the right people.”

While the inside of the eatery was lush and fancy, the outside of the building was nothing more than a plain brick building. There wasn’t even a sign to indicate that a business was inside. For a moment, Madelyn had wondered if this was some sort of trick and the Marinos were going to kidnap her, but she realized what silly thoughts those were as soon as she saw the little tables nestles against the dark walls, the dim lighting, and the elegantly uniformed waiters.

“And of course you know the right people.” Her grin was too wide, but she couldn’t control it. She took another sip of the magic wine. “I bet you’re connected to every person in the city. No wonder the cops are trying to get you.” She couldn’t be sure if she was getting her point across, but she knew what she meant. Madelyn wasn’t completely drunk, but she had a good buzz.

“But I have the best lawyer in the city, so I don’t think I have to worry about that.” He reached across the table and touched her hand.

Madelyn felt a jolt of warm electricity flow up her arm. It had been like that all night. Every time she looked at him, her stomach curled or spiraled or turned to water. Every time he touched her, it was like their bodies created a bolt of lightning. Had it always been like that, or was she only noticing it tonight? She couldn’t be sure, but she was enjoying it. The kiss in the limo had been particularly electric, like live wires had been hooked to her lips and tongue

Enzo signaled for the check and then glanced at his watch. “Looks like I should be getting you home. I don’t want to keep you out too late.”

She gave him a pout, but she nodded and pushed her wine glass away. “Yeah, you’re probably right. I still have work to do, but I don’t think that will ever change.”

“Isn’t that a good thing?” he asked as he rose and helped her out of her chair.

Madelyn couldn’t remember feeling so good in her body. Walking alongside Enzo in a restaurant that only the select few were even allowed to come to, she felt strong and sexy. The wine had helped her relax, but it hadn’t made her dizzy or goofy. “Yes, and it’s all thanks to you.”

“Why is that?”

“Because once I’m done with your case and I get the promotion that I deserve, everyone will finally understand what a good attorney I am. Not just Morber and Barnard, but people in the city. They’ll be clamoring to hire me, and I’ll be able to increase my fees. In a way, you could say that my career rests on your shoulders.” They stepped outside to find that the sun had sunk down below the buildings and left the world in darkness while they had been eating. The chauffeur somehow knew they were coming, and he held open the back door. Madelyn thought he looked vaguely familiar, like she had seen him around somewhere recently.

“But no pressure or anything, right?” Enzo helped her into the limo, settling his arm around her shoulders.

She sighed. “I’m sorry. We said we weren’t going to talk about work tonight, but it just keeps coming up.”

“It’s okay,” he assured her. “I haven’t exactly been able to get it off my mind.”

“I can’t get you off my mind.” She had tried so hard to be discreet about it, but hell with it. Enzo already knew she wanted him. She had let him undo her top when they’d dined at his house, and the kiss they had shared earlier in the limo had been a passionate one. There was no point in hiding anything, and the heavily tinted windows gave her a feeling of privacy right in the middle of the city. They were even closed off from the chauffeur.

His lips were dangerously close to hers, their arms around each other, and their bodies braced to do what they had been trying so hard not to do. “Is that so?”

Her hand moved down his ribs and down to the front of his trousers. As soon as she felt the hard bulge that was waiting there for her, Madelyn wanted him with a hunger like starvation. Breathing heavily, she brought her other hand down and began undoing his pants.

Enzo didn’t fight her off or argue, sitting back against the seat to give her any access she wanted. As soon as she had exposed his hard, throbbing member, Madelyn sank to the floor of the limo and wrapped her lips around his shaft. He gasped in response, his hips moving slightly. Madelyn’s core pulsed, growing wet at the thought that she was turning him on. She pulled him deeper into her throat, sinking him inside her mouth until her lips touched the base of his cock, and she sucked hard as she pulled back.

“Damn,” Enzo whispered.

Madelyn worked at him harder, cradling his balls in her hand as she sucked and pulled. When she had him all the way inside her, she danced the tip of her tongue against the underside of his member, trying to find the best way to please him.

It must have been working, because Enzo’s hands were tugging at her jacket. He had it off of her easily, tugging at the soft fabric of the dress until he had worked it down off her shoulders and wiggled it past her breasts. His fingers deftly unsnapped her bra, and he immediately pulled his hands around to cradle the heavy weight of her mounds.

She moved forward on her knees to press them down over his dick, letting it pop up between them so she could continue her blowjob. Enzo moaned again, his hands in her hair. “I want you, Madelyn.”

“I want you, too. Badly. You want to come up to my place?”

“No, I can’t wait that long.” He was getting out of the seat.

“I’m not sure how we’re going to … in here …”

“That’s okay. I’ve got it figured out.”

She was still on her knees on the floor, but Enzo grabbed her by the hips and shoved her up so that she was bent over the seat, facing the back of it. He moved her like she didn’t weigh a thing. His fingers dug seductively into her flesh as he ran them down her buttocks to the hem of her skirt and flipped it over. Madelyn had opted for thigh-highs and a garter belt, and Enzo growled in appreciation as he yanked her panties aside.

He was hard and ready to go, and Madelyn was as wet as she was ever going to get. She was ready for this, had fantasized about it, and still she pulled in a sharp breath of air as he entered her.

“Are you all right?” he asked as he took her by the hips. His voice was low and husky, like he was barely containing himself.

“Yes,” she panted. “You’re just so big.”

Enzo pumped his hips slowly against her. “That’s not a problem, is it?”

She heard the arrogance in his voice, and she loved it. “God, no!”

He went at her in earnest now, his body slamming into hers. He filled her up in a way she had needed so badly, and she arched her back to give him the best access. Madelyn braced her arms against the back of the seat and closed her eyes, letting herself sink into the moment and not think about anything else.

Enzo had her firmly by the hips as he punctured her, but he brought one hand around so that his fingertip touched her clit. Her body arched and bucked at even that slightest touch, her core immediately pulsing. Enzo must have liked it, because he continued making small circles against her tender flesh until stars burst in front of her eyes and her strength was completely reliant on him. She felt her walls convulsing, demanding that he bury himself all the way to the hilt inside her.

He got the hint, his cock engorging and filling her even more. He removed his hand from between her legs and slapped her ass, and Madelyn screamed with pleasure. Enzo grunted as he came, and the two of them collapsed onto the seat.

The car ride hadn’t lasted long enough, but it had been just enough for Madelyn to get what she needed. They were just puling onto her street as she retrieved her bra and straightened her dress, blushing furiously as she did so.

Enzo did up his pants, a gentle smile on his face as he pulled her back into her arms and kissed her forehead. “There. I don’t think we were thinking about work for at least a few minutes.”

Madelyn laughed. “I know I wasn’t. I guess I’ll be seeing you again soon?” She picked up her purse, which had somehow fallen on the floor. It suddenly occurred to her that the chauffeur had likely heard their antics, or felt them. She tried to tell herself that it didn’t matter, and any professional driver was probably used to such things, but she certainly wasn’t.

“Of course. I’ll walk you to your door.”

She was so aware of his body now that she didn’t quite know how to handle herself. She had gotten the most important part of him, but she found herself wanting to get to know the rest of it. She wanted to peel his shirt off and run her hands across his chest, explore the muscles of his thighs, press her naked body against his. So much for remaining professional, but nobody had to know about it except the two of them.

Their lovemaking had been spontaneous, rough, and passionate, but he was nothing but a gentleman when they reached her apartment. Enzo came just inside the door, took her hand, and kissed the back of it. “You know I’ll be calling you.”

“I highly suggest it.”

He leaned forward to whisper in her ear. “I do have a plan, you know. We’ll get this thing taken care of. We make a good team.”

She gave him a warning look. “Don’t do anything illegal.”

Enzo winked. “Good night.”

When he was gone, Madelyn threw herself down on the couch and let out a girlish giggle. Enzo wasn’t like the other men she had dated in her adult life, and she was so glad. He was strong, powerful, and rich, and he knew how to get what he wanted. But he also made her feel like a teenager again, ready to do something spontaneous or just a little bit bad. She couldn’t wait to see him again.

Dying to tell someone about her night, Madelyn dug her phone out of her purse to call Stacy. It was a little late, but her friend usually never went to bed early. But as soon as she turned on the screen, she saw a text from Mr. Morber. It had come through two hours ago, but she had been so involved in her date that she hadn’t even noticed.

Where are you at on the Marino case? It doesn’t look like anything is happening, and that’s not going to work. I expect a full run-down first thing in the morning.

“Fuck!” All the excitement drained out of her. She had been working on it, but she didn’t have a good enough plan to present to the head honchos. Even when Mr. Barnard had asked if he could help, she had carefully avoided him for the rest of the day. It wasn’t the right way to do things, but it made her nervous to let anyone peek inside this case. What if they discovered that there was more between Madelyn and Enzo than just the attorney-client privilege? She would lose everything she had worked so hard for.

But there was no avoiding it now. Madelyn moved the beautiful flowers Enzo had given her and opened her briefcase, spreading her documents out on the coffee table. It was going to be a long night.
