Hades' Flame (Devils Rejects MC Book 1) by Glenna Maynard (18)

Danny

Its nightfall and we have moved to the alley, waiting for the lights to go out. The plan is to strike around two am. That way the girls should be good and asleep when we knock them out. We don’t need any witnesses.

We can’t have any fuck ups.

I check my watch. It’s go time if we are going to make this happen.

We file out of the van one by one, taking our time, making sure we aren’t seen. We are all wearing ski mask, but still we can’t be too cautious. Nothing can link this back to our club.

Nothing.

I make my way in and find my way to the fuse box and get started while the guys, start knocking the girls out and getting them to the van.

I shut off the power to the wires I need to tamper with. It doesn’t take long to fuck the wiring up and I repeat my actions until I have everything in place. I messed with the connectors to make it look like they weren’t properly installed. Next, I make my way upstairs to the bathroom that is directly over the basement and stop the sink and tub up, before turning the water on high in both. If my plan goes well, the water will eventually seep through and drip down through the walls and ceiling, making moisture seep into the breaker box. When the other girls start plugging their shit in in the morning to get ready, it will overheat the wires and with a little help from the flooding upstairs, it will catch fire.

I get back to the van just as Reaper is loading the last girl.

“How many did we get?”

I look to the back but am unable to get a head count.

“Eight,” Terror answers me.

“Close enough.”

Uno drives us to the warehouse, so we can put the girls in a holding cell Reaper and Boogeyman built to keep them in until we move them tomorrow.

Cupid, Boogeyman, and Reaper are staying at the warehouse to guard our cargo while Uno changes the plates on the van and gets it ready for tomorrow. He has to change out the decal and gas it up.

I’m going home to grab a shower and crawl in bed with my wife.

Sara

The prospects and Amber worked their asses off yesterday and they are coming back today to help me finish unpacking and getting the house baby proofed for CT.

I’m exhausted, and I don’t want to get out of bed. Danny however is up and getting ready to leave. Apparently, he has some club business to attend to.

I didn’t even feel him get in the bed last night. I’m not sure he has been to sleep.

Getting up, I go to the bathroom, wash my face, and brush my teeth.

I find him in the kitchen drinking coffee.

He already has his cut on and he’s trimmed his beard.

“Hey, did you even get any sleep last night?” I wrap my arm around his waist and take in the sexy scent of his leather and coffee.

“Bout two hours, I guess.” His voice is raspy.

“You need sleep.”

“I need to get on the road. I won’t be back till late. Zo Zo is supposed to drop your car off later. What are you getting into today? House looks good by the way.”

“Thanks. I thought about going over to the clubhouse with Amber after we finish up here and hanging with MaryAnn until you get back.”

“Make sure you wear your patch. Got a few members of the Born Sinners passing through this weekend. Don’t be drinking either. I don’t know when I’ll get back.”

“Okay.”

He kisses the top of my head and I flip the small kitchen TV on. The news is broadcasting something about a fire at a sorority house in Nashville.

“How awful,” I say more to myself as I read the caption at the bottom of the screen. Three girls died from smoke inhalation and several are being reported as missing.

I turn to pour myself a cup of coffee and Danny is frozen in place, watching the program.

I wave my hand in front of him. “Hey, you okay? You look like you have just seen a ghost.”

“Sorry.” He blinks. “Just tired.”

“Well you better rest up before tomorrow. CT will be here before you know it.”  I grab a mug and get my caffeine fix.

“I’ll sleep when I’m dead.” He shoots me a smile, but it doesn’t quite reach his eyes.

I have a feeling there is more going on than he is letting on, but I am smart enough not to push.

As an old lady, I know there are times you have to pick your battles. I may be young, but I picked up a lot from watching Morgan and my brother.

“I gotta go. Give me a kiss.”

He gives me a small hug and a quick coffee flavored kiss before he is out the door.

Locking the door behind him, I finish my drink and go back to our bedroom to get dressed. I gotta say it feels good to have my clothes hanging in the closet.

Once I throw on a pair of leggings and a tank top, I put my hair in a bun and get started in the living room, putting out CT’s baby pictures.

It’s only been about a week since I have held him, but it feels like a lifetime ago. I can’t wait to kiss his cheeks and hear him call me Momma. I hate to think of the developments and milestones I may have missed this past week that we have been apart.

Morgan swears I haven’t missed a thing, but he’s growing so fast. I don’t want to miss a moment. Making the choice to be CT’s mom is the best thing I have ever done. He is so full of love and hope. He doesn’t know the bad his parents done, and I hope he never will. One day I know I will have to tell him that he is adopted but Danny and I haven’t really talked about how we will handle it when the time comes. I don’t want to lie to him, but I sure as hell don’t want to tell him what horrible people created him, because as long as I am breathing, CT won’t be like them. I will raise him to know right from wrong and Danny will show him what a real man is about. Just because he was bore from the sperm of a monster doesn’t mean he will be anything like his father or his crazy ass mother. Deep down I feel this way in my heart, but there is part of me that is scared for his future. What if I do all that I possibly can to give him a good life and instill him with morals and integrity and he still turns out bad somehow? I don’t have all the answers. I wish that I did.

A knock on the side door to the kitchen breaks me from my thoughts.

It’s Amber and the prospects.

“I brought breakfast.” She hands me a basket of muffins.

“Did you make these?” I grab one off the top and put the basket on the counter.

“God no. I bought them and put them in the basket to make it look pretty.” She laughs.
