His Mate - Seniors by M.L Briers (21)

“Dang it! Go get her!” Sarah bit out, and she could hear the alpha scenting the air like a madman.

The next moment she was being hoisted up onto his back, and instead of protesting which would have taken longer; she wrapped her arms around his neck and shoulders, and her legs around his hips…

“I got it too…” He growled, and took off at break neck speed…

Sarah wanted to groan, and yet she wanted to get to Angela before Chloe decided that the witch was supper…

Lark followed his nose. He’d heard Chloe and Sarah going at it and he knew that he needed to reach his mate before the vampire did…

There was only one problem with that scenario. Lark could already scent the Fae blood in the air.

He felt the rush of the air against his skin and knew in his heart that the vampire had overtaken him… He cursed his elderly body – in his prime he may have given the woman a run for her money…

He scented the alpha was close. He heard the hard thud of heavier than normal footsteps coming up behind him and caught Sarah’s scent on the breeze, and then, the alpha run by him as well…

“Help her, alpha…” Lark bit out.

He pumped his arms against the air and did his damnedest not to drop dead of a heart attack before he reached his mate and finished the vampire for what she had, or might do.

He’d die for his mate.

He’d kill for her.

And if she was dead then he’d have his revenge or die trying.

Chloe could scent the Fae blood in the air and it called to her like a beacon. Her fangs elongated and her bloodlust ramped all the way up to uncontrollable.

She raced in the direction of that blood. The scent of the witch was just too delectable to even try to ignore…

Her eyes took in the witch. The woman was on the ground, not moving, and she hoped that she wasn’t dead because she wanted a live feast, but she’d take what she could get…

She headed straight for the wounded witch, hard and fast, and without a mind to anything but getting the taste of her blood upon her tongue…

One blink later and something hit her hard and fast from the right, taking her down to the ground beneath the weight of him, and she scented Monty all around her.

Her instinct said fight, but it was her Monty … her mate … her body screamed for blood and her mind told her to use any means necessary to get it.

Chloe could feel his weight pinning her to the ground, and she knew that she needed to fight that instinct to kill…

Kill him.

Kill the witch.

Get the blood…

“Sorry … lesson for tonight – pay attention to what’s around you in case it’s a trap…” Monty bit out, fighting the strength that his newbie vampire mate had to try to keep her off the witch…

He knew that she was more powerful than he was at that moment in time. It was the natural way of things that helped a newbie to survive long enough to become an old seasoned vampire like him.

But he had skills that she’d need to stick around a few hundred years to learn, and killing her would have been pretty damn easy if he’d had a mind to do it – which he didn’t, but he also didn’t want her snacking on an elderly witch…

That was just bad for her reputation…

“Just a taste…” Chloe bit out, miffed at her mate for standing between her and a delicious meal…

“Not even a smidge of a taste…” Monty offered back as she fought like a demon beneath him to get free…

“Damn, I need my magic…” she roared…

“Defeatist,” Monty teased with a small chuckle.

He had her right where he wanted her. The only problem was that if he needed to help the witch then he’d have to let her go…

Nathan put his mate on her feet and wrapped his arm around her waist to keep her steady. Humans weren’t used to the kind of speed that he could travel, and admittedly, it wasn’t as fast as a vampire, but still, some got extremely dizzy.

Sarah didn’t seem to be having too much of a problem as she lowered herself to the ground beside Angela and kept one eye on the vampires and another on Lark as he growled a warning to them to stay away from his mate, and raced up behind them to catch up…

“Down but not out…” Sarah said on a sigh of relief and for Lark’s benefit – she was grateful that Angela’s injuries hadn’t killed her.

The woman had taken a knock to the head, and she couldn’t be entirely sure, but she didn’t look as if she’d been fed on. She knew that Lark was coming, and she knew that she needed to make a choice…

“You take Lark and I’ll take Chloe…” She bit out as she pushed up to her feet. “Will you help her?” She asked Monty, and the man nodded.

“Love too – if you’d like to sit on this one…” He said, nodding to Chloe…

“Oh, my pleasure…” Sarah said as she stalked towards the vampire, just as Nathan raced towards Lark to take the elder down…

“Don’t you dare use…” Chloe started, but it was already too late.

Sarah was in full swing, using her magic to keep the woman pinned to the ground while Monty went to help Angela.

“Alpha…!” Lark roared, still running head first towards Nathan as the alpha pushed off the ground and met the man in mid-air, using the solidity of his weight, and his strength to take the elder down…

“I’ll get you back for this…” Chloe roared…

“I’m sure you’ll try…” Sarah offered back, forcing her magic through her fingertips to keep the vampire from so much as squirming.

“Call yourself a witch…” Chloe bit out, mocking her.

“I’ve got your number … babe,” Sarah mocked her right back.

“Let – me – up…” It didn’t matter how hard Chloe tried to move, the weight upon her kept her locked in place…

“First harm ye none … come on, Chloe – there has to be a little witch left inside of you.” Sarah baited her.

“They’ll be a lot more when I fed on you…” Chloe ground out.

“Don’t make me kill my own kin. Find your damn humanity…” Sarah warned.

“Why would I want to do that?” Chloe had stopped trying to struggle. Her fangs had retracted, and the vampire looked almost human again.

“For old time sake…”

“Tease me with witch’s blood once, shame on you. Tease me twice – there won’t be a third time…” Chloe promised her.

Sarah could truly believe that her aunt meant every word. The fiery look in her eyes said that she wanted to kill her for using magic to keep her from Angela.

Too bad. If the vampire wanted to enact revenge then Sarah would protect her own, and that wasn’t who her aunt was anymore.
