Hollywood Dreams (Hollywood Hopeful Book 1) by Molly O'Hare (12)

Chapter Twelve

Maggie stared down at the necklace and then back to the spot Trevor vacated. Okay, this really is some Twilight Zone shit! Shoving the box – the best she could – into her chest she took off in a jog, searching everywhere for Trevor. She made her way to the dance floor as her eyes continued to scan the room.

Nothing.

She growled. Her body was on high alert as she tried to make sense of what had just taken place. Why in the world had Trevor given her a birthday gift? A. Freaking. Birthday. Gift. Not only that, but he was actually extremely nice to her.

“Oh god, he’s probably sick and dying,” she declared as she felt a rush of urgency run through her. Scanning the crowd again, she saw Danny and Lexi still dancing. With her targets now acquired she pushed her way through the crowd. Unfortunately, for her, when she set her sights on something she saw nothing else. That included the waiter with a tray full of hors-d’oeuvres. Within seconds, she was on the floor with the waiter on top of her, apologizing profusely.

“Oh, no, ma’am, I’m so sorry. I didn’t see you there,” the waiter said as he stood. To her mortification, he grabbed the napkin that was on his arm and started wiping her down. “Please, I am so so sorry. I honestly didn’t see you.” The kid looked terrified.

Maggie looked at the waiter with horrified eyes as she reached out to stop his groping. “It wasn’t your fault,” she assured him. She glanced around, only to feel her stomach bottom out. The party had frozen all around her as all eye’s and cameras were on her. She turned to see Lexi and Danny making their way over to the scene of the crime.

“Are you alright?” Danny asked, as he pulled her away from the waiter and into his arms. “You fell kinda hard.”

She glanced around as she continued to feel every eye in the room on her. “I’m fine,” she whispered as she tried to get out of his hold. Shaking her head, she remembered her objective. Screw it! She was on a mission and right now, she wasn’t going to let one of her clumsy occurrences stand in her way. Or the fact that by tomorrow morning there was bound to be an internet video posted with the headline, “Fat chick was so hungry she jumped a waiter only for him to grope her”. She inwardly cringed. Nope! You can deal with that tomorrow, Mags, right now you have to find Trevor.

“I really am fine,” she said. Grabbing onto his hand she dragged him through the ballroom, Lexi hot on their tail. Maggie did her best to ignore the comments and whispers she was hearing all around her. “Who does she think she is?” “Why is she even here?” “Who invited the fat chick?” “Did you see the way she jumped on the food?”

Shaking her head, she mustered all the courage she had inside of her to the surface. Once they all had made it through the double doors she turned to a very shocked Danny. She could feel all of the adrenaline coursing through her body as she started to shake uncontrollably.

“Babe, you okay?” Lexi asked, concern marring her face as she moved closer to her.

Ignoring Lexi, Maggie looked Danny right in the eyes. “I need you to tell me where Trevor lives and now,” she said as sternly as she could.

Danny’s face scrunched. “What?”

“You heard me,” she said. “I need to know what Trevor’s address is and I need it now.”

“Oh shit, Maggie what did he do?” Danny looked at her with such concern that her body actually started to relax. He really did care about her.

“Did he hurt you?” Lexi questioned, she too, was as concerned as Danny was.

Turning away from both of them, she started to pace while she tried to get her emotions under control. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath. So, I know your most favorite game is the Screw with Maggie Game, Universe, but right now, just this once please, I am begging you give a girl a little break.

She stopped pacing and turned back to them. “I need to talk to him it’s important.”

“Okay,” Danny said, “I can have his assistant –“

“No,” Maggie interrupted. “I need you to tell me his address.” She reached into her dress, thankful the tumble with the waiter hadn’t caused her to lose the necklace, pulling out the box. Opening it she showed both Lexi and Danny. “He shoved this at me and took off.” Lexi went to look at the pendant but something inside of Maggie snapped and she closed the box before she could touch it. The idea of someone else touching something that Trevor had given her nearly made her sick to her stomach. Huh? No, it wasn’t that. It’s all the stuff that’s happened in the past five minutes. My stomach is throwing in the towel.

“Whoa,” Lexi said as she shot her eyes back to Maggie. “Got ya loud and clear, sister, no one touches your love charm.”

“It’s not a love charm!” Maggie growled.

“Uh,” Danny spoke, shock was written all over his face. “So, Trevor just handed you this and took off? He didn’t say anything?”

Maggie looked at both of them. Why can’t once people just listen to her and do what she asked? Taking another deep breath trying to control herself. “No, he said ‘Happy Birthday’ and then took off.”

“Right on!” Lexi exclaimed.

“No, Lexi, no ‘right on’. Right now I need to talk to him.”

Danny looked around a little weary. “I really can’t give you his address,” he said, apologetically. “It could cause so many problems and I’d probably lose my job… my career.”

Maggie felt her world start to crumble. She was about to plead with him when Lexi spoke up, “Pish posh.” Lexi beamed as she took hold of Maggie’s hand and started to lead her out of the building. “You don’t work for years and years in an exclusive neighborhood without finding out a few things.” She winked at her. “I’ll take you to him.” Thank you, Lexi!

As they made their way to the taxis Maggie heard Danny sigh as he caught up with them. “Neither one of you drove,” he reminded them.

“That is not a problem, my good man,” Lexi chirped with excitement as she pointed to the line of taxis waiting.

Lexi’s pure excitement of the situation started to cause Maggie’s nerves to get the better of her. What was she doing? Why was Lexi so happy about it? She didn’t like that Lexi was getting so much enjoyment out of her humiliation. She was going to have a serious sit down talk with her once she figured this whole Trever thing out.

“That’s not what I’m saying,” Danny remarked, he then spun them in the direction of his car.

What in the world had Trevor just done? He threw his keys into the bowl by the door and then his suit jacket onto the back of his living room couch. He had absolutely lost his freaking mind. Walking to his kitchen he pulled open his liquor cabinet and reached for his favorite whiskey. Grabbing one of the glasses he poured himself a generous amount. Without a second thought, he downed it.

What the hell was so special about her that he couldn’t seem to get his shit together when he was around her? And, what a fucking loser move to throw, yes throw, her gift at her and then fucking take off like some scared little boy that just told his crush he liked her.

Oh god,” he groaned. He did not just do that. He couldn’t stand Maggie. She was loud and annoying, didn’t take direction for shit, and she was not his type at all. No fucking way. Sure, her tits were more than a handful, which if you asked him, he liked a lot. Her hips were big, but then again, they would fit perfectly in his hands as he pounded into-

“Fuck!” He took the glass in his hand and before he knew it the glass was flying through the room. When it hit the wall across from him, it shattered.

Ignoring the mess, he walked back to his living room. Loosening the tie from around his neck, he undid the top few buttons of his shirt.

He had so many emotions running rampant through him, he didn’t know what to do next. Pulling out his phone he scanned the numbers looking for a willing body. He knew he needed to get rid of all this pent-up energy, and what better way than to fuck it out? He mentally patted himself on the back. Not only would he get laid, he’d also be wiping away the thoughts of Maggie from his mind. Hopefully.

Yep, this was exactly what he needed to do.

Looking through the numbers, no one was catching his eye. Starting to pace the room again, he felt his heart rate increase. “Fuck, you are so fucking stupid. Why would you even give her that necklace?”

Trying his best to wash away the events of the night, he closed his eyes. He was going to randomly call someone when he felt his phone vibrate.

Looking down he saw he had a new text from a buddy of his.

You left too early. You missed a great show! Check out the video:

He stopped pacing and leaned against the back of his couch thankful for the distraction. His reprieve was short lived when he realized the video was of Maggie falling to the floor, a waiter on top of her. Instant panic washed over him. Was she alright? As the video played on, he saw them both stand, the waiter pulling her up.

Jealousy and anger shot through him.

He watched as the waiter practically groped her in front of everyone.

He squeezed his phone, his anger taking over. Throwing the offending object across the room, he heard the telltale sign of the screen shattering.

No one touches her!

Trevor looked at his keys in the bowl by his front door.

Purposefully, he charged at them, ready to go find her. Keys in hand, he charged toward the door. Before he made it though, he heard pounding.

Angry pounding.

Who the fuck would come to his house and then have the balls to try and beat down his fucking door? That only pissed him off more. Right now, he had something he needed to do and he had zero time for this bullshit.

He swung open the door ready to pound the daylights out of whoever was there, only to be shocked by what he saw.
