Nemesis (Creation Inc Series Book 6) by BJ Cunningham, Misty Clark (10)

Chapter 12

Kara was fighting so hard to stay awake, but having the bear back and his furry arm over her middle was making it too hard. She hadn't closed her eyes since she'd woken in the cell with the lion. She made a face. She should have handled that better or at least tried, but honestly, what did Dane expect? She sighed. "I'll just close my eyes, for a few seconds and think," she told herself. There was something about that War guy, something she should remember, but damn if she could remember what it was.

Brock wasn't sure how long he'd been asleep. He opened his eyes when he heard her say she was closing hers. 'If you are tired, you should rest. I mean it's not like I can’t watch over us,' he said through mindlink. He was stilling trying to get a handle on everything. And having her next to him was nice, but a part of him was waiting on the other shoe to drop.

Her eyes opened, and she looked down at him, smiling as she stroked the fur on his arm, "I thought you were asleep, and I promised to keep watch." She still couldn't believe that he was beside her. She should be dissecting how it was possible, but she didn't care. She didn't care what natural laws may have been broken, what the repercussions might be or anything else. She would have gladly traded places with him and to have him here was a gift.

'I did. And I know you promised, but you are gonna wear yourself out.' Brock's muzzled itched. Wiggling his nose trying to get it to stop, he finally decided to just scratch it with one of his paws, groaning at how good it felt. 'When is the last time you slept?' he asked her through mindlink.

She watched him and couldn't help thinking that he was absolutely adorable when he did that. "I don't know. Three? Maybe five days. It all runs together. Confession time, I'm scared to death that if I go to sleep, you'll disappear or have been a dream." She raked a hand through her hair and leaned her head back on the headboard.

He snorted, still feeling like something was on or in his muzzle. 'You know if you don't sleep, you'll start seeing little green men or pink elephants. We don't need that. I'm not going any place. Well, not yet. I have to work at some point.' He moved his back legs on the bed. The bed felt different to him. He was having a hard time getting comfortable on it.

"That’s exactly what dream you, would say," she arched a brow at him and scratched his muzzle for him as she wiggled her way down further onto the bed, so she could be closer to him. "And no, you don't. King Bart thinks he's got shit handled, let him crash and burn." She couldn't help the contempt that slipped into her voice.

'In all in honesty, I'd love to let him hang himself, but The Pit is a family run business. And if the bar goes under then we're up shit creek without a paddle. Maybe I can go back to what I use to do.' Brock decided to shift into human form. The bed might be comfortable then. As he shifted he ghosted himself dressed in sweats and a white v neck tee. His long hair fell into his eyes. Pushing it back, he used his magic to tie it back. "One of these days, I'm going to cut my hair," he said mostly to himself. If it was short, it couldn't be used against him.

"I know," she sighed watching him and arching her brow at the annoyance that seemed to be coming from him. "What's bothering you bear?"

"The bed. It feels different," he said, shifting his weight again. "I'm having a Princess and the pea moment." Brock wondered if this was really his own bed. With his luck, one of his brothers swapped out his for one of theirs and she didn't notice.

"Okay," she nodded. That wasn't what she meant, and he probably knew it, but whatever. Maybe she was too tired to be around people right now. "Well, if you're awake, I guess there's no reason for me to hog you, is there?" She forced a smile, patted his shoulder and got up to get a few things to take back to her place, because with the shit Bart had pulled, there was no way in hell she was sleeping here so she could wake up in another damn cell.

"Do you need me to help you with anything?" he asked as she started getting off the bed.

"No," she shook her head and felt like she might cry for absolutely no reason at all. Damn, she must be tired or maybe she just needed off the emotional roller coaster. "Do what you need to, Babes. I got me."

He arched his brow. "Well, alright. Will you be back?" he asked, getting up off the bed. He decided a shower would be nice. Maybe it would help him get his mind right.

"I'll check in," she smiled and went back to looking for something in the drawer. Shit felt way the fuck off and she didn't think she liked it, at all.

"I'm going to get a shower," he said heading for the bathroom. Brock stepped into the bathroom and looked around. It was a normal bathroom in The Pit, but yet it felt weird. He turned the water on in the tub, undressed and looked at himself in the mirror. He looked the same, but felt different. Maybe he really did die and his body and his mind hadn't caught up to each other.

She nodded and tossed a few things in a bag and listened to the door close before turning to look over her shoulder. Sighing, she sat on the foot of the bed, deciding to keep watch while he showered and then she had a hard time believing that she'd come back here. Thing felt completely different between them. Being dead, screwed with your head, she remembered that well, but it didn't change how you felt and she was getting nothing but cool indifference from the bear. No matter how much she didn't like it, she could take the hint. Besides, he knew how to find her if he changed his mind.

Brock got into the tub and hit the lever for the shower to turn on. As the spray hit him in the face, he felt a wave of panic. The water was ice cold. He turned the knob and it wouldn't get warmer. "Come on, you piece of shit," he growled, trying to get the knobs just right. The cold water started stinging his skin. "Don't be a baby, it’s just water." Bart's voice filled his head. Flashes of being a cub and playing by the swamp came to him. He felt panicked thinking about it. Bart's voice seemed to grow louder in his head. Blinking, he tried to turn off the water and it wouldn't stop. The water started to fill the tub like it the plug was in. Lifting his leg to get out Brock felt something grab his leg that was still in the water knocking him off balance. He felt into the tub. The water kept getting deeper. He gasped for breath as something started to choke him. Thrusting his body, trying to get free, he screamed for help. The water filled his mouth and nose. 'I'm gonna drown,' his mind screamed. Like when he was a cub and Bart had tried to drown him, though he told Papa he was just playing.

Kara was on her feet when she heard the crash and already through the door when he yelled. It took half a second to see what was happening and she yanked at the shower door. It wouldn't budge as the water climbed up the glass. Aiming at the bottom corner furthest from Brock, she bolted it, turning her face when shards of glass and a wall of water poured over her and through the door. "Brock!" She choked as water forced its way up her nose and she reached for him, grabbing his shoulders and dragging him out of the tub. "Don't you fucking dare be dead on me again bear," she growled, giving him a shake.

Brock's lungs filled with water and he was sure that was it for him. As the last of oxygen started to leave his body. He felt something pull him from water. His eyes couldn't focus, but he could feel he was being shaken. Someone hit him on the back. Coughing, he started spitting out water. As the water came from his mouth and nose he realized it was Kara. She had saved him.

She let go and fell back against the vanity when he bent over and started coughing out the water. Pulling her legs to her chest, she leaned her elbows on her knees and tried to make her hands stop shaking. Closing her eyes, she tried to wipe the wet hair stuck to her face away by rubbing it on her shrugged shoulder before giving up and dropping her head back to blink at the ceiling.

Once he was done coughing, he wiped his face with his hands. "Thank you, Cher," he said in a horse tone. "I don't know what happened. I got in and the water was like ice. I tried to fix it and it wouldn't turn off. I tried to get out and something took me down." He turned to look at her.

She nodded. "Glad I could help and that you're still breathing, Bear." She smiled weakly, still trying to get her body under control and not able to look at him yet. "We've got to put an end to this shit because it is really pissing me off."

He got up and moved closer to her. Pulling her to him, he ignored the glass cutting into him. "Yes, we do. You're shaking," he said, moving her to his lap as he sat on the little stool in the bathroom. Staring at her, he could tell she wasn't okay. And it wasn't the part about him drowning. It was deeper than that. Wrapping his arms around her, he held her to him tightly.

"I do that when you stop breathing on me, Bear." Kara willed her body to cut the shit, but it ignored her, even after he pulled her into his arms and her hands clung to his sides without her meaning them to. She hid her face against his chest when she couldn't hold back to tidal wave of emotions and when the dam broke, it let loose a fresh surge of tears. She hated fucking crying, but it seemed to be only thing was good at lately. She hated this fucking world.

Using his magic, he cleaned up the glass putting the bathroom back to how it was supposed to be. Standing up, he cradled her in his arms as she broke down. Brock carried her out of the bathroom and back to his bed. Sitting down with her in his arms, he ignored the pain from the glass in his skin. "It's okay. I've got you. I'm sorry I scared you," he murmured, trying to soothe her.

His being nice to her, just made her cry harder. She needed to pull herself together, get her stuff and let him do whatever he needed to do. But she couldn't force her hands to let go of him. She felt heavy, utterly exhausted and lost. She couldn't take much more of this bullshit. She'd hit rock bottom when she’d watched him flatline in the clinic and then the bottom had dropped out of that. She was past done. Yet, she still couldn't let go. What kind of an idiot was she?

"If you keep crying like that, you'll get snot on me," he said, trying to make a joke. He ghosted in some tissues close to him. Pulling one from the box, he wiped her eyes. "Please, don't cry. It’s breaking my heart, Cher."

"Sorry,' she choked out, her throat closing off when he sounded like the old Brock. "You don't need this. I’m sorry." Still trembling, she took the tissue from his hand and forced her other hand to let go too. "I'll be fine," she lied. "I'll let you get back to what you were going to do."

He growled at her. "Stop. I am not going anywhere until I know you're okay, Cher," he said, staring at her. "You're a shitty liar, you know that?" Brock wiped her tears with his hand. Having in her in his arms felt right. He tightened his hold on her as his instinct to protect her kicked in. Before he could stop himself, he kissed her softly.

She'd been looking for an escape route when he started killing her and acting like her bear again. Kara nodded, "Yeah, I," her words were cut short by his lips on hers and her heart stopped. Her hand cupped his bearded jaw, kissed him back, and made a very unviking-like sound in the back of her throat.

He placed his hands on her back. Rubbing it gently, he melted into her kiss. A soft growl came from him and his tongue parted her lips. He had intended the kiss just to be something soft and sweet, but he found that his instincts where taking over. His bear wasn't going to listen to any of the sensible things going through his head. It never did where she was concerned.

Kara leaned into him, moaning his name as he deepened the kiss. Her tongue danced with his, savoring every moment that she'd thought she'd never have the chance for again. Her other arm slid around him, her hand up his back, moving over the familiar planes of it, to assure her that he was still here.

He lay her back on the bed not breaking the kiss. He followed her down until he was covering her and resting his weight on his elbows. Tey were both wet from the almost drowning, but he ignored that fact. The air hitting his wet cool skin made him goosebump all over.

Feeling him move and the bed pressing into her back as he covered her, she held him tighter against her as her body came to life, mapping and memorizing everywhere they touched. He heart beat faster as she pressed herself into him and her breath hitched in her lungs. She growled at the wet clothes that clung to her and blocked the feel of his skin against hers, making them disappear and gasping as they touched, and her blood began to boil for her bear. If this was a dream, she was going to kill someone, but until she woke, she was going to enjoy every second of having Brock back.

As her clothes vanished, Brock growled again, feeling their skin connect. He felt his length start to stir. Part of him was scared to even try what his body was trying to do, or tell him to do. What if it went badly? He decided to ignore his fears. He broke the kiss and looked down between them. The heat coming off her was making him crazy. Not to mention the scent she was giving off. "Cher," he whispered, not sure if he should go for it or not.

Her mind screamed when he broke his lips away from hers and she could read the hesitation in his eyes. She reached down between them and slid her palm down over his length, scraping her nails lightly over his skin when she pulled it back up over him. "I told you before, you can't do anything wrong. I am yours, Brock," she watched his eyes as she stroked him, and he grew harder in her hand.

He moaned and thrust slowly into her hand. His body was on fire. Everything in him wanted to take her hard and rough. Instead, he lowered more of his weight on her. As her hand slide over his length, he moved so the tip touched her core. He pressed into her, only letting the tip breach her core. "Gods," he murmured softly.

Kara gasped as she felt him edge inside her, growling when he stopped. Her hips arched off the bed, trying to finish what he's started, "Please, Brock," she panted, the ache of needing him was almost too much to take and it was so close to being satisfied.

When he heard say please, he thrust into her fully, rocking his hips slowly. He couldn't remember how long it had been for him. He turned his attention back to her face, not expecting to see a softness in them under the lust. He leaned down to kiss her. His hips moved slow and deep against her and he growled when he felt her legs wrap around him.

She moaned his name when he filled her completely and then he had her mouth too. Tightening her legs around him she rolled herself over him, matching his rhythm and tried to hold off the building pressure and pleasure that had begun tightening her core around him the moment he'd been fully seated inside her. His scent filled the air and the feel of his tongue brushing against and coaxing hers to play was pushing her over faster than she'd thought possible. Maybe it was thinking that she'd lost him forever. She didn't know. She didn't care. "God, Brock," she gasped and deepened their kiss, pouring how much she'd missed him, loved him and needed him, into it.

He loved how she felt and the hunger in her. As they kissed, he could feel the emotions that came from her, making him move his hips faster. He was on the edge. He could feel it building. He sucked on her tongue as is darted into his mouth. Growling, he exploded into her, not being able to hold it back any longer.

"Yes," she whimpered into his mouth when she felt his release punch into her deeper and she snapped, her body puled, her core clenching him tightly as she growled his name. She was swimming in a liquid ocean of pleasure lapping at every inch of her skin. Growling, she used her magic to rub and squeeze his balls as she nipped at his lips, starving for him.

He growled her name, feeling her on his sack. It made him even harder than he was before. He exploded again shocked that it happened so fast. He didn't stop. He wanted her to please her, leave her limp and knowing that only he could break her the way she needed to be.

Kara held nothing back, shed all inhibitions and let her desire and lust for him drive. She was acutely aware that she would never know if it was going to be the last time and she wouldn't waste time with her bear again. Her nails scraped against his skin as her hands skimmed over his shoulders, back and ass, not able to get enough of him.

Holding on to her, he rolled so she was on top of him. He pulled her down to him, so he could taste her breasts. One at a time, he slowly let his tongue roll over her harden nipples.

Growling her approval, she caught herself with her hands on the bed beside his shoulders, Throwing her hair back, she bit her lip and moaned at the heat of his mouth over her nipple and the scrape of his teeth. "God, Brock. I love you," she panted, rolling her hips and pushing her core down over him and whimpering at how deeply she felt him. Shaking her hair to the side she wanted her neck to be ready if he decided he wanted to bite.

He lets his hands replace his mouth on her breasts. He bucked hard underneath her. "I love you too," he said, not sure why, but he couldn't stop himself from saying it. "Come for me, Kara," he begged her as his eyes stared up at her, full of lust.

His words and the look in his sapphire eyes shattered her and her entire body hitched, tensed and she screamed his name as she came hard, as he'd commanded. Coming completely unhinged, shaking and barely able to hold her self up as wave after wave of bone snapping pleasure crashed over her, she nipped his jaw and her growl turned her voice husky. "You're turn, Bjorn."

A smiled crept over his face when she came. It didn't take long before he joining her. Sweat started to bead all over his body. His heart pounded in his ears. His felt like his body was vibrating. "Are you sated?" he asked, panting hard.

"Are you?" She grinned and pushed her shoulders up from where they had landed against his chest. She pulled her hair back and dropped it over her left shoulder, exposing her throat and running her fingers over her neck as she tilted her head away from her hand. "Is there anything else that you want or need, Brock?" she teased and tightened her core around him.

He groaned as she tightened on him. "Yes. I don't normally like to call Uncle first, but you win Cher." He said licking his lips. "Want or need? Such as what?" He asked as she exposed her neck to him.

Grinning, she dropped her hair raised her arms in victory. "Finally!" She leaned down and kissed him softly. "Nothing, Babes, I just got caught up in the moment."

He laughed as her fun playful side appeared and kissed her back. "Evil," he said, looking up at her. "So now that you won. Are you doing to Disney World?" He joked.

"Not unless you come with me," she smiled, stroking his bearded jaw.

"Never been there, but sure. Why not?" He smiled.

Laughing, she nuzzled him. "Pack a bag then, bear. Just promise you won't leave me again." she sighed against his neck and inhaled his scent as she finally started to feel closer to right. "I'll beg, if I have to,"

"I don't plan on it," he said, thinking about Disney World. "I don't think I'll fit on the tea cups."

Her smile faltered slightly as she pressed her lips to his neck and she lifted herself off him and lay beside him. "We could cram you in there if you really wanted to."

He chuckled. "They don't make rides for full figured bears." He put his hands on this chest and laced his fingers together.

"Well, they thought talking mice were a good idea, so what do they know?" She shrugged and ran her fingers over his arm. "Are you alright, Babes?" she watched his face with concern. "You can tell me anything."

"I'm okay for the most part. The glass in my ass hasn't healed yet. Are you okay? I mean, I hope I put you at ease," he said, turning his head to look at her, so she could see his face.

"Good," she smiled softly and let her hand fall to push it under her head. "Yeah, I guess."

"You guess? What else can I do?" He asked rolling on his side.

She shook her head, not sure why she felt sad when Brock was back and she should be over the moon, especially after what they'd just done. But something still felt off and she couldn't put her finger on it. "I don't know," she answered honestly. "You know me, I'm moody and shit." She let her eyes move over his face and then dropped those too.

"Part of your charm, Cher." He said smiling at her. "It's probably just too much at once."

"Yeah, probably." She turned her face into the bed to hide her yawn. "Sorry, at least it waited until we were done, right?" She grinned and oddly felt like she was going through the motions and she’d just unplugged from anything that involved a feeling. "Maybe I should go."

"If you're tired, I keep telling you to sleep," he said wondering why she kept wanting to leave him by himself when she kept insisting that she loved him. It made no sense to him. Then again it was rare any female did. "Go if you want,” he sighed. “I'm not gonna hold you here, if you don't wanna be here. But at some point, we need to rejoin society to keep up appearances, at least." Brock was in no rush to get back to his family, but the world waited for no man or bear. It went on with or without him and he still had a lot of shit to do.

"In all honesty, I'm afraid if I fall asleep here, Bart will find a way to lock me up again and I'm too tired to bust through another wall," She admitted with a blush. "It hasn't been good for me here, not without you, Brock."

"I'm sorry to hear that, Cher. I won't let him lock you up, but if you feel unsafe here, then I understand totally. You should be where you feel safest."

"Thank you," she sighed, torn. What she wanted was to be with him, but she wasn't exactly getting the usual ‘I want you around’ vibe and it broke her heart a little. "Will you stay with me, until I fall asleep? You don't have to, I mean I understand if you have stuff to do." She busied herself with picking a pillow up off the floor and shoving it under her head.

"Of course." He said. "I'm sorry if I don't seem right to you. I don't think all my marbles are rolling together. I feel weird and I don't mean for it to leak out on to you." Brock patted the bed closer to him. "I'm in no rush to deal with the shit storm that waits for us."

Nodding and smiling softly, Kara moved closer to him and rested her head on his chest as her arm fell over his stomach. "Thank you," she pressed her lips to his chest. "You can tell me about it if you want. Talking is kind of our thing," she smiled and closed her eyes, listening to his heartbeat in her ear.

"You're welcome," he sighed as she got comfortable. "I just feel like I'm missing something. Maybe I came back wrong," he admitted honestly.

She tilted her head back, surprised that he was opening up. "About what? Maybe I can fill in some gaps, Babes."

"That, I don't know. Maybe it'll go away after I'm here for awhile." He yawned too. "Where did that comes from?"

She laughed and patted her hand against his chest. "I think I might have worn you out," she teased. "No complaints, though. I sleep best under your bear," she teased. "Nowhere is safer than there."

He arched a brow at her, laughed and shifted to make her happy. 'I say we take a nap.' He mindlinked her. 'Get comfortable, Cher.'

She snuggled under him and pulled one of his paws around her, sighing happily. "This is perfect." She slid her fingers between his claws and pressed them against her skin. "I love you, Brock," she whispered as his fur warmed her. Kara felt her body relax and unable to keep them open any longer, her eyes fluttered shut..

'I love you too,' Brock yawned an let himself drift off.
