Omega Calling: M/M MPreg Shifter Romance (Dirge Omegaverse Book 1) by Esme Beal (10)

LUCAS

Despite just being in a fight, Donovan maintained an air of dignity about him. There wasn’t a single blond hair out of place on his head. He looked like he had barely broken a sweat. I’d only known him for so long but he was always reminding me of the Alpha that he was.

“That should do it, sir.”

“Thank you, Dirk. That will be all for tonight.”

Donovan’s personal assistant excused himself after patching up the man he worked for. Donovan sighed a deep breath as he sat on his balcony. In nothing but a pair of red silk pajama bottoms, he leaned back in his seat and stared out into the ocean.

I stood on the balcony with my hands on the railing. I was in my underwear and enjoying the cool night breeze.

“You don’t seem bothered by what just happened,” I said.

“I’m bothered,” he said. “I can assure you of that.”

“It took a lot of courage for you to stand up to the Black Stone like that. A lot of people in Pandora are afraid of them. Biker gangs in that part of town have everybody on edge but there’s something about hyenas…”

I looked back at him. Donovan remained calm, his eyes still locked on the water down below.

“I shouldn’t need to be brave to go to a different part of town,” he said. “We all have our differences. It’s in our nature. But just because I’m an Alpha doesn’t mean I can’t control my instincts.”

“Good luck convincing all of them to go along with that. As far as they’re concerned, Alphas have a right to take whatever’s there. And that gang right there… That was a whole pack of Alphas who do whatever they want.”

“They won’t last long.”

“What?”

“They won’t last long,” he repeated. “They might be savage but there are too many Alphas in this city to go around being reckless.”

“Some might say what you did was reckless. Going to Pandora and picking a fight with a motorcycle club. That was hardly a good idea.”

“I don’t have any regrets.”

Donovan finally shifted his gaze toward me. His blue eyes were mesmerizing as the moonlight reflected off of them. Anxiety built in the pit of my stomach. It was hard for me to stare back at him.

“You said you had something you wanted to tell me,” he said.

“Right…”

“Now is as good a time as any.”

I nervously tapped my fingertips together.

There has to be an easier way to explain it.

But nothing came to me. I racked my brain to try to find a way to explain it. I was beginning to wonder if I should tell him at all.

“Lucas…”

He spoke my name with the authority of a concerned father.

“…What is it, Omega?”

“Okay,” I sighed. “We’ve been spending a lot of time together. I don’t know why you chose me.”

“I chose you because there’s something about you. You don’t seem to fit in with everybody else in Pandora. It’s not that you’re an Omega. No… It’s something else.”

“What do you want to do with me?” I asked.

“I know you can do good. I know you’re capable of something greater. You’ll never be able to accomplish anything by living in that bar your whole life, working for that grumpy old man.”

“So, what? Are you gonna save me? Are you gonna let me live in your mansion?”

“No,” he said, shaking his head. “My hope is that you’ll be able to live comfortably on your own. A fresh set of clean clothes. A soft bed. A roof over your head. I can’t save all of Pandora. But I can start with you.”

I smiled at him. He wasn’t just a dreamer. He was delusional.

But after seeing what he had done so far, I figured he at least earned the right to know the truth.

“Tell me,” he said. “I can wait all night if I have to.”

I gave him a nod then looked back out into the water. My hands on the railing, I closed my eyes as I told my story.

“I left my pack,” I said. “I left my pack deep in the Timberlands to come to Dirge.”

“That’s where most of the wolf packs are. And seeing as how you’re alone, I’d already assumed that you’d left them.”

“I didn’t just leave any pack.”

I turned around and stared at Donovan.

“I left the Primals,” I said.

Donovan’s face didn’t break. He just stared at me as calm and collected as he always was.

“Did you hear what I said—”

“I heard you,” he said. “You left the Primals.”

“Why did you leave, Lucas?”

The memory of my old pack sent a shiver up my spine. I didn’t want to think about it, not even for a second.

“Have you ever seen a Primal?” I asked.

“I’m looking at one right now.”

“No,” I said as I shook my head. “I’m only an Omega. Alpha Primals are different. They’re savages. They’re violent. They can’t be tamed.”

I sighed a deep breath before continuing.

“I’ve seen what an Omega in heat can do to them. They can’t be stopped. They’ll do anything to satisfy themselves. They hunt. They destroy. They kill. I had to get away from them. I had to leave that life behind.

“You might think I’m miserable in Pandora but I’m not. It’s better than the life I left behind. I’m not the one in Pandora you should be looking out for. There are people in Pandora more worthy of your help.”

“I see…”

My head was down. I wasn’t looking at Donovan. But suddenly, I felt his hand on my chin. He stood before me and made me look up at him.

“Just because your life is better than it used to be doesn’t mean it can’t still get better,” he said.

“That’s just it. It’s not gonna get better. It can’t.”

“What do you mean?” he said, his eyes narrowing.

“The Primals would never let an Omega leave their pack. I can bear their offspring. They’ll come for me. It’s only a matter of time. Once the Primals get to Dirge, nobody will be able to stop them. Not even you.”

I moved my face and his hand dropped from my chin. I looked away from him and closed my eyes as a tear dropped down my cheek. The memory of my old pack was too much for me to handle. The flood of emotions made it hard for me to focus.

“The Primals are coming to Dirge,” he said.

“Yes. Once I’m in heat, they’ll be able to sense me.”

“All the way from the Timberlands.”

“They’re savages. They have heightened senses. They know I escaped here. My scent will only become stronger once I’m in heat.”

“I see…”

Donovan took a seat down at his table. He nonchalantly leaned back in his chair and calmly stared out into the ocean. Despite everything I explained to him, he still looked like none of it had affected him.

“I’m glad you’re telling me this,” he said.

“I didn’t figure I’d see you again after last night. But seeing as how you’ve taken an interest in me, I think it’s only right you know the truth about me. You’re right. I’m not just some Omega who left his pack to come to live in Dirge. I’m a Primal.”

I took a seat at the table in front of him. Now that everything was out in the open, I figured he’d be more willing to listen to what I had to say.

“There is a way you can help,” I said.

“Is there?”

“Yes. Not me. Someone else. Sawyer has a daughter. Her name is Megan. She’s a sweet little girl.”

“I can imagine,” he said with a smile.

“She’s innocent. Sawyer doesn’t pay much attention to her and her mother… Look… The point is that if you want to help the people of Pandora, you can start with her.”

“Start with her… And what would you have me do for Megan?”

“I don’t know,” I said with a shrug. “Teach her. Educate her. Maybe give Sawyer some money so he can take better care of her. She deserves more than the life she has to live now. Donovan…”

I moved a hand forward and rested it upon his thigh as I looked right into his eyes.

“…The Primals are coming for me. I don’t know when my heat will come but when it does, the Primals will follow shortly after.”

“What will they do? Will they kill you? Will they take you back into the pack?”

“There’s no telling what they’re capable of. They’re savage beasts unable to control their emotions. They might impregnate me. They might kill me. They might do both. What happens to me doesn’t matter.”

“Doesn’t it?”

“No. When it happens, I want you to watch over Megan. I want you to promise me that Megan will be taken care of. If anything were to happen to her, it… it would be worse than death itself.”

I closed my eyes, thinking of the young girl. My cheeks were warm. A tear streaked down the corner of my eye. I suddenly felt Donovan’s hand caressing the tear away with his thumb.

I blinked my eyes open to see him smiling at me.

“I promise you,” he said. “Whatever happens, no harm will come to Megan. I will do everything I can to make sure she’s protected.”

“Thank you. That’s all I want.”

“Don’t cry, Omega. I didn’t invite you to my bedroom to be so emotional.”

“No,” I said, chuckling softly. “Of course not. I’ll do anything you ask of me.”

“All I want you to do is spend the evening with me. Just like I asked.”

“I… I don’t object to that.”

He stared at me. The way the moonlight hit his face made his chiseled cheeks much more noticeable. His blue eyes burned with a sudden lust. The emotions I felt just a moment ago were replaced with a passion he ignited inside of me.

I moved to my knees before him. He lifted his ass up just enough so I could lower his pajama bottoms down to his ankles.

His cock was swollen and thick already. I closed my eyes and lowered my mouth upon him.

The sound of the waves crashing down below us filled my ears. My wet mouth slurping on his length grew louder. Donovan leaned back and sighed as I pleasured him into the night.
