Peppermint Spiced Omega: an M/M Omegaverse Mpreg Romance (The Hollydale Omegas Book 3) by Susi Hawke (7)

Colin

As soon as they were ready, I went back with Tom for the test. It was weird, being there as a parent, and not one of the medical personnel. Tom looked so tiny and nervous in his hospital gown. Once they got him on the table with his feet in the stirrups, his hand shot out for mine.

When they took the speculum and opened his hole for ease of access, my heart went out to him. No fucking way would I want someone using that thing on me. Not to mention that the metal was probably cold as fuck. One of the lab guys stood off to the side, making notes and passing things over as the one doing the test needed them.

As a doctor, I knew very well that they had to use the shared channel that was used by both the colon and the cervix in omegas, and that when the cervix was accessed, a flap of flesh blocked entry to the channel by the other part of the body, and vice versa. But even knowing that, it still made me shudder to think of the pain that he was probably going through on top of having a cold piece of metal shoved up where the sun don't shine. Omegas were definitely a stronger breed than us alphas.

Once they had the speculum in place and the tube threaded through, the ultrasound was begun. The lab tech ran a wand over Tom's gel coated belly, and I watched in fascination as the fuzzy image began to show his uterus.

As soon as I realized what I was seeing, I gasped in shock. Tom looked at me sharply and demanded, "Tell me! You know I won't find out until I see the doctor. You're a damn doctor. Talk to me."

I looked down at him with watery eyes and said softly, "Let's just say that Allie's odds just doubled."

Tom's brows knit together, then he looked at the two blurry blobs on the screen then back to me. "You mean... wait... seriously?"

I nodded. "I guess Hank wasn't lying about that being a fertility drug, unless twins run in your family. They sure as hell don't run in mine."

Tom's jaw dropped and his eyes lit up as he watched the images on the screen. Finally, he turned back to me. "Wait. How does this double Allie's chances of a match? Don't twins have the same DNA?"

I shook my head. "Not fraternal twins. Two babies, two separate eggs, two separate DNA strands."

"Wow. I don't know whether to be excited for Allie, happy for us, freaked out for me who has to carry them, or just over the top drama king. I've got so many crazy feels happening right now!"

I chuckled and squeezed his hand. "How about we start with being happy for us and work our way up to drama king as the weeks go by. We'll wait until the results come back before we get thrilled for Allie. Yeah?"

Tom nodded. "See? I really do need a hot daddy alpha. You keep me focused."

The tech grinned. He was trying not to get involved in our conversation, but Tom's adorable brand of crazy had a way of drawing people in.

I watched as the tech deftly thread the tube into the cervix. It was visible on the ultrasound, like a blunt, white object that didn't belong there. I showed Tom, and he watched with interest. His eyes narrowed protectively any time the tube got too close to one of the twins. Oh, yeah. This was going to be fun, to see Tom in full on papa mode.

Brushing hair back, I leaned down and kissed his forehead. "Do you think Uncle Tofer can handle Allie tonight, or should we ask her godfather to watch her? I want to take you home and spoil you. This has been a hell of a day, and I think you need some down time."

Tom nodded. "I'll send both of them to Milo's. He and Rafe won't mind. Tofer will have fun with Artie anyway. That kid's a crack up now."

I'd gotten to know Rafe and Milo as a couple a few weeks ago when Tom had us all over for dinner. Thankfully, Milo had taken over after Tom tried to serve everyone half raw chicken.

Once the samples were both extracted and put into carefully labelled vials, one tech cleaned the goo from Tom's belly while the other delivered the samples to the lab. After he left, I helped Tom down and passed him his street clothes. I knew quite well how much people did not enjoy spending time in hospital gowns.

While we waited, we let them know they could find us in the pediatric activity room. We walked in to find Tofer doing a handstand on one hand while bouncing a ball with the other. Milo's little Artie was racing around him in circles, laughing gleefully at the imp’s antics.

Milo was sitting in a far corner talking to Ian, while Rafe sat over to the side of the doorway, reading a book with Allie. Tom smiled up at me happily.

"Isn't my weird little family amazing? The only ones missing are Kent, Christian, Liam, and pretty little Ollie. And Cecil! But you haven't met Cecil yet."

"That's because Liam is in labor upstairs. Kent was just in with Ollie, he went to go check for an update," Rafe offered quietly from the corner. Allie smiled over at us wanly, her fatigue clearly showing. Tom picked right up on it because he went over to check her temperature with the back of his hand.

I commented dryly, "You do know that we're in a hospital and there are thermometers here for that, right?"

Tom glared up me with an indignant sniff. "Please. I don't need a friggin’ thermometer to know if Miss Allie here is burning up."

"How come you're talking funny, Uncle Tom?" Allie asked curiously.

"Am I? Hmm. Some might say I spoke funny before. I don't know, baby girl. I just feel different today. Kind of like my old self again, you might say."

Tofer did a somersault and came bouncing over. He landed in a heap at Tom's feet, curling his legs up beneath him to sit there. "I think you need to have a conversation now about the whole uncle thing, don't you? Miss Allie might also like to hear the happy news you two have to share."

I looked at him curiously, while Tom came right out and asked. "Did Milo tell you my secret? How did you know?"

Tofer shrugged enigmatically. "I know what I know, and I've always known it. Life goes in circles, and you have to spin with it."

I almost cracked up at the skeptical look that Rafe shot Tofer, but Tom got my attention instead.

"Miss Allie, you can't call me Uncle Tom anymore." He paused to tweak the nose on her crestfallen face before leaning in to kiss her cheek. "I prefer Papa... or Daddy if you must. Although, Papa has a certain charm."

Allie's little face lit up. "Are you adopting me?"

Tom shook his head seriously. "Nope. I'm un-adopting you. Ian over there is going to figure out how to make it happen."

Rafe looked at me curiously but I just smiled and let Tom talk. "When I was much too young to have a baby, I found out that I was having one anyway. Wicked people tried to tell me that I was too young to be a papa, and that I would have to give the baby up for adoption. But I refused."

Allie's eyes opened wide. "Then what happened?"

Tom took a deep breath, and continued. "Then when the baby was born, I was asleep from medicine." Allie nodded sagely, fully aware of drowsy medications. "When I woke up, they told me the baby had died."

Allie's eyes teared up and she reached for Tom's hands. Covering them with her own, she said sweetly, "I'm sorry your baby died. You can be my papa, you're the best kind of papa to have anyway."

Tom sniffed and cupped her cheek. "That's just it, sweetpea. I found out today when they tested our blood that my baby didn't die. She was stolen from me and put up for adoption. Honey, you're my baby. I really am your papa."

Allie's fatigue seemed to disappear as she flung herself into Tom's arms. The two of them sat there hugging and crying. Rafe stood and set the book down on the coffee table. He walked over and picked up little Artie, who was climbing on Tofer's back. He cuddled his son and gave him a big kiss before setting him down to continue his attack on poor Tofer.

Rafe wiped his eyes and walked over to stand beside me. "So that's why Milo wanted us here, huh? That's an incredible story. I couldn't have written a better one in one of my books." I'd recently learned that Rafe was a popular novelist under an anonymous name.

I grinned at him and shook my head. "Well, they say that truth is stranger than fiction, right? Wait until you hear the rest of the story."

Tofer bounced up and clapped his hands. "I've been waiting forever for this part of the story to unfold. Tom, tell Rafe and Princess Allie the rest of your news."

Allie snuggled up against Tom, looking up at him with adoring eyes. "What could be better than finding out that I have my own papa?"

Tom smiled over at me and said, "How about if you get a daddy too?"

Allie jerked up straight and beamed over at me. "Really? You're my daddy?"

I shrugged. "I am now, if you'll have me. Tom and I are going to be getting married pretty soon here."

Tom turned and glared up at me. "Seriously? No. Hell to the no! You do not propose to a man like Tom without a romantic proposal, a shiny ring, and most importantly, actually asking the question! Uh-uh. You can state that you're moving in, fine. That was kind of adorable. You can even get away with informing me that we're moving to a bigger place, especially if it gives Tom bigger closets. But marriage? Nope. Tom needs a lot more than his hot alpha daddy just informing him that it will be so as though it’s a given."

Allie and Tofer were giggling, but Rafe just shook his head. "Dude. Read one of my books, please. You seriously need to up your game. I'm embarrassed to even stand next to you after that gaffe."

He walked around me and sat back down beside Allie, winking at her. Tom took pity on me and flashed me a grin. "Tom will consider any and all proposals given, so long as they are asked in the form of a question."

"Duly noted," I commented dryly. "Are you going to tell Allie the rest of the news now? I kind of need out of the spotlight here."

Tom's eyes danced merrily as he stuck his tongue out at me. Turning back to Allie, he asked her, "What would you say if your new family included little brothers or sisters?"

Rafe's mouth dropped open. Tofer piped up and said, "Or even one of each?"

Tom shrugged. "I can handle one of each."

Tofer winked. "I sure hope so, since that's what you've got cooking in there."

We all did a double take at Tofer's serious proclamation. Then Allie let out a squeal. "Wait! I just got it! You mean you're having a baby!"

Tom held up two fingers. "Your daddy and I are having twins. You get to be a double big sister all at once."

Allie flopped back against Rafe dramatically, rolling her eyes and making a silly face. "And the best news of all is that I'm your godfather!" Milo announced as he walked over with a big smile. He looked at Rafe and shrugged. "Good thing the house is big, the way that Tom's decided to give us godchildren to spoil."

Tom turned to Allie and said quite seriously. "Do not play with any red balls in that old house of theirs. And if you see any weird old people, just smile nicely, say pleased to meet you, and run and find Milo. Immediately."

Rafe and Milo cracked up at Tom's seriously creeped out warning. Tofer just looked over at me and said, "He's talking about Nana Aggie. She's cool, though. Don't worry, your kids will be fine at their house. Just keep them out of the attic. The guy that lives up there gets angry if you poke around."

Every one of us looked at Tofer like he'd grown two heads as Ian came walking up. He shook hands with me politely, and joked, "Wow. When I told you he was all yours, I was joking. I didn't think you'd take me seriously and actually put a ring on it."

Tom interrupted. "Don't worry, he hasn't. Yet. He’s just knocked me up with twins for now. We'll see about the ring later."

Ian grinned and said, "Good luck, doc. You'll need it with this one." Turning back to Tom, Ian grew more serious. "I'm working on tracking down the original adoption paperwork. It won't be a problem getting it annulled once you and Milo give your affidavits, and we show proof of your paternity. My thing is, I want to find the alphahole attorney that let it happen. I don't care how old you were. Even as a minor, you'd have rights over your own child. I will follow this through, Tom. If I can find even one person to pay for what happened to you, it will be done."

Tom started to shake his head, but I stopped him with a hand on the shoulder and said to Ian, "Thanks, I'd appreciate that. Tom may not be the kind to deal with legal retribution, but I have no problem with it. Legal trouble is way better than the ways that I was thinking of paying him back if I found him."

Ian and Rafe both nodded in agreement. The omega might not have gotten it, but the other alphas understood. When Allie yawned, Milo asked Tom, "Do you need to wait for more test results? Or can you go home now?"

Tom shook his head. "We're waiting for results on the twins’ DNA right now, to see if the stem cell transplant from the cord blood will be a possibility. I have no idea how long we'll be here."

Milo nodded to Rafe. "Then let's take Allie and Tofer home with us. Tofer knows what Allie needs, and Tom will be less stressed if he knows she's resting instead of waiting here."

"Sounds like a good plan to me," Rafe said with an easy smile to Allie. "Come on, you can freak your Papa out tomorrow by telling him spooky things that happened while you were in our manor tonight."

Tom started to grow pale but Tofer bounced up and gave him a fast hug. "Don't worry, my friend. Everything is quiet at the manor right now. I'd tell you if it wasn't."

Milo tilted his head. "Tofer, you've never been to my house."

Tofer shrugged. "So? I have seven senses, don't I?"

Ian looked like he was about to correct him, but I laid a hand on his arm and shook my head. "Let it go, man. You'll sleep a lot better at night. Trust me."
