She's Mine: A Dark Romance Trilogy by JB Duvane (17)

Brooklyn

I was still sobbing hysterically as I was thrown into the back of the limo. I couldn't believe this was actually happening to me. I couldn't believe that my father just sat there. He never even looked up at me once after he saw who Mario was escorting into his library.

"Don't you even care about what's happening to me?" I screamed as my father sat on the couch in his library with his newest girlfriend right next to him. This one didn't even look as old as I was and, from what I could tell, he had just bought her some jewelry from Tiffany's by the looks of the blue box on the table.

"How can you just sit there and let me be taken away forever? Do you have any idea what they're going to do with me? They're selling me to some man. I'm going to be someone's slave, Daddy. Do you hear me? You're selling your daughter to be someone sex slave!" I screamed at him.

"Do you have any offers to make, Mr. Bellini? This is your last chance," he said as he held onto my arm. After waiting for what felt like an eternity and my father continuing to ignore the fact that I was sobbing uncontrollably Mario grabbed my arm and pulled me toward the door.

"It's time to go. There's no point in any more hysterics," he said as he started walking away with his steel fist clamped around my arm. As I was being pulled out of the room, I looked back at my father. He never once looked up at me from where he sat on the couch. He just stayed there in the same position, with his elbows on his knees, staring at his hands while his girlfriend rubbed his back and whispered in his ear.

* * *

"Dude, are you asleep or something? We just passed the Bellini jet! It's right over there," I heard Mario say in the front seat.

"Nah, it's up here at the north end. I got a text with new orders while you were inside with the girl. She's flying out on a different jet."

"What new orders? I got my orders directly from the boss, and he didn't say anything about a different jet. Let me see the text."

"I dunno. The boss decided to fly in and wants his private jet available is all I know. Hold on a sec, I gotta get my phone out."

The next thing I heard was a gun shot. The car swerved a little then continued on until we were on the tarmac then it came to a screeching halt. The driver got out of the car then ran back and opened my door and pulled me out of the limo.

"We gotta go. Come on," he said as he pulled me by my arm toward another jet. Suddenly, I felt someone grab my other arm and I screamed. But when I looked to my right there was Adrian running right next to me toward the airplane in front of us.

The airplane engines started up as we approached the stairs and both men pushed me up ahead. I heard footsteps clanging up the metal steps behind me but I stopped and turned when I heard another gunshot. The driver had been hit and was on his knees at the bottom of the stairs and Mario was leaning out of the limo on the passenger's side.

"Keep going!" Adrian yelled up to me then turned and fired a shot at Mario who immediately went down.

"Adrian!" I yelled as I watched another limo pull up. "No!" I screamed as Adrian's father got out, his gun already in his hand. I turned and ran up to the top of the stairs then ducked inside the plane.

"We're leaving now! Tell the pilot to taxi to the airstrip in ten seconds!" I heard Adrian yell to the stewardess standing next to me at the top of the stairs. He grabbed the driver and practically carried him up the stairs and into the airplane.

Adrian's father got to the stairs just as they started to lift up into the air, so, he ran alongside the plane, shooting into the open doorway as we picked up speed and headed toward the airstrip. Adrian grabbed me and pulled me around a corner into the galley as multiple shots were fired at the plane, but nothing vital was hit and within seconds the airstair hatch closed and the plane picked up speed.

"We'd better sit down," Adrian said as he looked down at me and pulled me over to an incredibly plush couch with two sets of seat belts. He gripped my hand until the plane left the ground and as soon as we were in the air I wrapped my arms around Adrian's neck.

When I pulled back and looked up into his eyes he was smiling from ear to ear. I was still in shock over everything that had happened that day and all I could do was stare up at him in disbelief.

I still couldn't believe that I wasn't on my way to some creepy man's dungeon. And I couldn't believe that Adrian was suddenly here with me. I just kept touching his face because I couldn't believe it was really him. That he had really come to save me.

"We did it," he said as he touched my face. "I can't believe we actually did it! This is all because of ... where's Grady? The driver, Grady, do you know where he is?" Adrian asked the stewardess who was passing through the main cabin.

"He's in the back resting on one of the beds, Mr. Bellini. I brought him back there as we were taking off. It looks like the bullet just skimmed his leg. He's got a pretty good sized wound but I'm taking care of it with the first aid kit. I think he'll be fine."

"Thank you so much, Natalie. He deserves a medal for what he did today," Adrian said as he turned back to me and touched my face again. "I just can't believe that you're here, Brooklyn. I can't believe it."

"Adrian, I can't believe you're here. I was so terrified. This whole day, it just seemed like one long nightmare. The way your father treated you this morning and then traveling for hours thinking that I was being shipped off to some horrible man's house. And the whole time knowing that my father didn't have the money to buy me back. Adrian, he didn't even look at me when I was there. He didn't even offer them anything. I felt like I was worthless to him. Like I was nothing."

"You and me both," Adrian said as he smiled a sad smile. "But we have each other now and I don't ever want to let you go again, Brooklyn. As far as I'm concerned my life starts now, with you." He said as he looked into my eyes then leaned down and kissed me.

I felt like my body was lighter than air, and it wasn't because I was flying through the air either. Every time Adrian looked over at me my entire body tingled and I was covered in goosebumps.

"Are you scared," he asked as I sat there with my head on his shoulder and his fingers intertwined with mine.

"A little bit. I want to just be happy to be with you but your father really scares me."

"Tell me about it," Adrian said as he looked down.

I couldn't get that horrible image out of my head. Adrian's father pointing a gun at his own son's head. He was a madman.

"I wish we could just have our lives to ourselves," I said as I looked up at him.

"We will. I'm going to get us settled and I'm going to keep you safe. I'll never let anything happen to you again, Brooklyn. We found each other again and I don't think that was some sort of accident. We were meant to be together. I don't think I would have left the family business if you hadn't come back into my life."

"You saved me and I saved you," I said, smiling up into Adrian's eyes.

"Exactly. And we won't have anything to worry about in the future if we're together," he said as he wrapped his arms around me and kissed me. I closed my eyes and smiled when I thought about how perfectly things had turned out. Everything I had ever fantasized about had actually come true.

Adrian really was the perfect man I had made him into in my head. And being with him did make my entire body melt. I closed my eyes and smiled because I had never felt so loved and wanted and safe in my life than I did when I was in Adrian's arms.
