The Heart Remembers: Blood Valley Investigations: Book Two (The Omega Auction Chronicles 16) by Kian Rhodes (13)

Chapter Thirteen

Harley

When I left my meeting with Trevor, I'd wandered around for a bit before I finally admitted to myself what I was doing. I was looking for Scott. There was something about him that called out to me. I was pretty sure that it wasn't just that I felt comfortable around him, there was more to it than that. He seemed to radiate safety and good intentions. I know. Stupid. Still. My trip to wherethefrickever with Trevor had left me more rattled than I wanted to admit and I was seriously jonesing for some comfort.

I walked up to the van and raised my hand, but hesitated before I knocked. After all, if he'd been dragged down to Trevor's with us, there must have been a reason which, in turn, meant that there was a good chance he had crap to do.

I was just about to turn away when I remembered his words earlier when I'd thought that I might have been bugging him: "You literally never have to worry about that, Har." More than his words, though, I remembered the slight tremble to his lips when he'd smiled and the edge of pain that barely showed in his eyes.

I knocked on the door.

My heart twisted in my chest at the sight of him propped up in the bed with papers scattered all around. He had a small blue ink stain on his lips – from chewing on a pen while he concentrated, I suspected – and one side of his bottom lip was caught between his teeth as he stared at the screen in front of him. It wasn't often that I thought of a grown man – especially one as ruggedly handsome as Scott – as adorable, but, seriously, there just wasn't another word for it.

As my corkscrewed heart began to flutter, a sudden realization washed over me. The man was freaking hot.

That epiphany really couldn't have come at a worse time because when he looked up at me, a smile spreading across his lips and something warm and intimate shining in his eyes, all of my blood began a rapid descent.

With no other way to hide my untimely erection, I dropped onto my stomach on the bed, biting back a groan as the impact sent an unexpected jolt of pleasure through me. When his warm hand settled on my back, that pleasure began to throb.

Trying to distract myself from the situation that was quickly escalating in my jeans, I glanced around the room, looking for a safe topic to bring up, and that was when I saw it.

There, in plain sight on the screen of his open laptop, was a nearly x-rated picture of the two of us. We were nude and standing in the moonlight on a sandy beach. Scott's glistening body was wrapped around mine, one large hand cupped my bare butt and the other gripped my hair – the long curls that I had just recently hacked off – holding my head in place for his mouth that looked to be devouring mine. Suddenly, I understood why I felt comfortable with him. We'd obviously had an intimate relationship when we knew each other before.

I listened to his soothing voice as he told me the history of the pictures, pleasure still radiating through me from his hand moving on my back. I finally worked up the nerve to ask if he was available – something I almost couldn't believe I was doing – and when he told me that he wanted me, his voice dropping to a sexy growl, the sensations building inside me exploded, pulsing through my body. I closed my eyes, mortified to be coming in my pants from such an innocent touch, and bit down on my fist to muffle my shout. It wasn't until I tasted coppery liquid warmth that I opened my eyes and gasped, shocked to see my teeth embedded in Scott's hand instead of my own.

Before I could apologize, he lifted his other hand to stroke my hair. "It's okay, Har. You didn't do it, I did." He eased his hand to his mouth and licked the blood from the wound. "I covered your hand with mine."

"Why?"

"There was no reason to mar your skin, love," Scott laughed, obviously less concerned about the punctures in his skin than I was. He lifted my hand to his lips. "Do you feel better?"

Just like that, shame flooded through me and replaced the concern that had made me temporarily forget the reason I'd bitten his hand in the first place.

"Oh, Gods," I groaned, dropping my face and hiding it in the rumpled comforter.

"Hey." Gentle hands burrowed under me and lifted me up, settling me in Scott's lap. "You don't need to be embarrassed with me."

"Easy for you to say," I mumbled into the soft cotton of his t-shirt. "You didn't just come in your pants like an idiot."

"Oh, Harley," Scott laughed softly, brushing his lips over my head. "You have made me do that - and then some - more times than I can count."

"I did?" I peeked up, my heart stuttering when his beautiful eyes caught mine.

"Absolutely," he assured me, nuzzling into my neck and kissing a spot that made me shiver.

Still caught in his eyes, I shifted my weight, gratified when I felt a telltale hardness beneath me. Twisting to face Scott, I slid one leg over his thigh so that I straddled his lap. Even through my damp jeans I could feel the heat of his hard length pressing against me.

"What are you doing, Har?" Scott's voice was rough, but the hands that settled on my hips were gentle.

"I bet you can figure that out," I teased, rocking my hips forward and watching, fascinated, as his eyes clouded and lost their focus. "Want me to stop?"

"Fuck, no!" Scott growled, the vibrations rumbling through my body. He tightened his grip on my hips and dragged me closer. He bucked his hips and we groaned in unison. "Damn, I've missed you so much, baby."

He leaned forward to catch my mouth in a frantic kiss, his tongue matching the rhythm I was rocking against him. His breaths sped up and I increased my speed, grinding down against him at the end of each stroke.

"Harley!" Scott threw his head back and arched his back, driving his hips up hard. I could feel his hard flesh pulsing against me as his release saturated his pants. "Oh, fuck, baby!"

Scott's groaned words sent a shiver down my spine.

"Feel better?" I asked, teasing him with the same words he'd used on me.

But Scott just grinned, slow and satisfied. Sliding down flat on the bed, he pulled me to him and tugged a blanket up to cover us.

"Better?" Scott repeated, brushing his nose over my throat as I snuggled into him. "Now that you're back in my arms? Absolutely."

It wasn't until I was drifting off to sleep, straddling the barrier between the waking world and the dream realm, that I realized when I saw the pictures, I had recognized my own face for the first time since I'd been released from the hospital.

Scott

I was dozing contentedly, Harley sprawled across my chest, his legs tangled with my own when a howl from outside brought me back to the present.

"I should probably be going," Harley murmured.

"Too soon," I disagreed, tightening my arms around him to hold him in place. "Been without you too long already."

"I know but you heard them call me." Harley gave a small laugh and kissed my pec, right above my heart. "I can't believe you waited for me."

"Oh, Har," I nuzzled into his hair and then kissed his temple. "You were worth a hundred times the wait." I propped myself up on one elbow, grinning when he clung to me, laughing eyes looking up through his lashes as he did. "But now that I've got you, you need to know I'm serious. I want to cl..marry you," I barely caught myself. "I'm going to talk to Zade."

His eyes clouded and I knew the briefest moment of fear that he didn't still want me. After all, in his mind, we had just met. "You will, won't you, babe? Marry me?"

Harley studied me for a minute before his eyes cleared. "Yeah, Scott. If you're sure that you want me, of course I will." He peeled his body off of mine with a grimace, brushing uselessly at the cum-crusted denim of his jeans. "I think I better get back and get changed before I go to that meeting," he said with a nervous laugh. "Otherwise, it's going to be pretty obvious what we were up to."

"Good idea," I agreed, brushing my lips over his cheek. "I'm going to catch up with Zade and then I'll find you."
