Change of Heart (Snowy Ridge: Love at Starlight, Book 4) by Kris Jett (22)

Chapter Twenty-Two

Becca rocked her hips slowly back and forth as Cooper stroked her thighs, encouragingly. Her hands slid up his chest and he watched greedily as her naked breasts bounced up and down with each thrust, her nipples taut and swollen. Becca had previously confessed to him that she had been a little self-conscious of her body. She thought her breasts were too full and her hips to wide, which Cooper thought was completely ridiculous. She was insanely gorgeous, and he didn’t know how he was lucky enough that this magnificent woman allowed him to even touch her, let alone make love to her. Cooper made sure she knew he appreciated every last inch of her.

Being away from the lights in town made the stars above twinkle even brighter than usual. It had been a hot day, but the evening brought a pleasant breeze that felt good on his bare skin.

Becca’s long dark hair fell forward as she moved and the ends tickled his chest. The night sky framed her face and he couldn’t tear his eyes away. He studied her intently, her eyes closed, and her lips puckered. She moaned softly and he felt his own excitement mounting. Was this really his life?

Cooper felt her come just as he heard the first firework shoot overhead and watched as she threw back her head, taking in the explosion of red and blue lights in the sky as she simultaneously cried out in pleasure. Her sounds drove him wild. He cupped his hands around her ass, pulling her toward him again and again, savoring each forceful stroke inside of her, until he soon joined her.

It was the fourth of July and Cooper and Becca were parked on the top of one of the sledding hills, alone, on a pile of blankets in the bed of his truck.

Becca giggled as she slowly slipped off of Cooper and peppered his chest with kisses, moving upward until she reached his lips. “That was amazing,” she whispered, and then nuzzled his ear.

“You’re amazing,” Cooper responded, his voice gruff. He studied her face and noted her flushed cheeks and drowsy post-coital smile. He thought she never looked more beautiful.

Becca positioned herself into the crook of his arm and laid her head on his chest. The two of them laid there, limbs entwined, and watched the firework show above.

“I don’t ever want to move from this spot,” she said in a soft voice. She ran one finger up and down his chest slowly, playing with his light chest hair.

“Agree.” He sighed happily. It didn’t get any more perfect than this.

Cooper couldn’t believe it had only been two weeks since he and Becca had begun dating. Or how his whole world had changed in such a short time. She was the first thing he thought about each morning and the last thought that crossed his mind each night. He hadn’t known what he was missing nor how much he needed her. And now that he did, he didn’t think he could go a single day without seeing her and holding her in his arms. He was completely addicted.

Cooper chuckled softly to himself and Becca shot him a look.

“What?” she asked. She ran a spread hand back and forth over his flat stomach.

“Oh, nothing,” he replied quickly.

Becca propped herself up on an elbow and turned to face him. Their noses only inches apart. “Tell me,” she pleaded.

Cooper opened his mouth to speak and then shut it again quickly. “It’s nothing, really,” he said.

“Cooper…” she cooed. She brushed his hair back from his forehead. She knew he loved when she played with his hair.

Cooper grinned. “Okay. I was just thinking to myself, had you been a better driver, we never would have met that day in the market parking lot.”

“Hey,” Becca said, faking indignation. She playfully slapped at his shoulder. “You know that accident was your fault.”

“Sure, sure,” he replied. He nuzzled into her neck and begun a series of light kisses behind her ear.

“It was,” she protested with a giggle.

“Okay,” Cooper relented. “My fault. I’ll happily accept the blame because it brought me you.”

“And because it’s true,” Becca added in a low, teasing voice.

Cooper pulled Becca in even closer and wrapped both of his arms around her. “I love you, Becca,” he whispered and then softly kissed the top of her head. He couldn’t believe this was really his life or that he could be this happy. He had thought for so long that things were fine the way they were and that he didn’t need more. That he didn’t deserve more. And then Becca came into his life and everything changed. Her happiness was now a priority even above his own and he wasn’t going to let her down. He was finally with the woman he loved and he wasn’t scared. They were going to have a wonderful life together.

The grand finale of fireworks begun, accompanied by the rapid booming overhead, but Becca was staring hard into Cooper’s eyes. “I love you, too,” she said and then her lips met his in a long, lingering kiss.
