Single Dad's Surrogate: A Billionaire's Baby and Nanny Romance by Annie Young, Cassandra Zara (40)

Chapter 11

It was impossible for me to say just how I knew that I was pregnant immediately after Carter planted his seed inside of me. It was like I just knew. Maybe it was that “woman's intuition” that I'd heard people talk about throughout my entire life. There was a feeling inside of me that told me it was real. It was happening and it wasn't just my imagination.

I found myself touching my belly all weekend. Before a shower, I'd stand naked in front of the mirror and circle my stomach with my fingertips. I even played relaxing classical music in my apartment for that entire weekend, with the hopes that the new life inside of me would be able to hear it. It sounded crazy, even to myself, but I couldn't deny the feelings of being pregnant.

When Monday morning came around, I realized that I had spent two full days listening to classical music while checking my cell phone repeatedly. I kept on hoping to get a text or a call or an email, just something, from Carter. There was nothing, though. I wasn't worried about it, just thought it was strange. I guess I figured he'd have touched base the day after fucking me like an animal in his office.

Maybe he was busy, I thought, as I opened my closet to pick out clothes for work. He's the CEO after all. He has a lot more important things to worry about than I do.

Hanging in front of me in the closet was a row of my usual work attire. The pencil skirts, the over-sized sweaters, the white blouses that left everything to the imagination. I realized at that moment, that those outfits weren't really me, at least not any more. Maybe they never were. I don't know. But one thing was for sure, I wasn't going to go into work today wearing something drab and boring. I wanted to make sure I got Carter's attention, hopefully in a similar way as I did on Friday night.

At the very right side of my closet, tucked behind a bunch of clothes I never thought I'd wear, was a dark blue, low-cut blouse. My mother had bought it for me years before and I don't think I wore it a single time, with the exception of when she'd made me try it on. I didn't like it then. It only covered up half of my tits and the rest it smashed into cleavage. I snatched it down, smiling as I slipped it on.

“It's perfect,” I whispered, checking myself out in the tall mirror that hung on the back of my bedroom door.

The same reasons I'd hated the blouse when my mother had given it to me, were now the reasons that I absolutely loved it. It made my breasts look amazing. Somehow bigger than they actually were. The sides clung to my curves in just the right way, too.

I spun around and grabbed a light gray skirt from the same part of the closet. It was much shorter than the usual skirts and dresses that I wore, so therefore it was perfect. Plus, the color complimented the blouse really well. After doing my hair and spraying on my best perfume, I was out the door and on my way to work. I couldn't wait to see Carter.

“Good morning, Jane,” Cindy said, as soon as I approached her desk. “What are you all dressed up for?”

She looked me over and raised a suspicious eyebrow.

I shrugged. “Nothing special. Just dressed for work.”

“Uh huh,” she said, rolling her eyes. “Anyway, Carter isn't in yet but he had me print off these stock ledgers for you to take a look at.”

I took the papers from her and walked away from her desk. At the end of the hallway was Carter's office. The doors were closed, but just seeing it reminded me of the amazing things that had happened in there. It brought back a wave of memories and caused a tingle to ignite between my legs. I savored the memory for just a moment before going into my office.

After taking a seat and starting up my computer, I tried to look over the papers that Cindy had given me. Normally, I would have been excited to jump right onto a project. I couldn't focus this time, though, no matter how hard I tried. My thoughts continued to turn to Carter. I felt like a young girl with a school yard crush waiting for recess to start so I could see my love. It was weird for me. I couldn't remember the last time I'd actually felt that way about someone.

After an hour that seemed more like a week, I heard Carter's voice outside of my office door. He was at the end of the hall, greeting Cindy for the morning. My eyes widened and excitement filled me. I couldn't wait to kiss him again.

The glass that separated my office from the hallway was not clear. It had that muddled look that allowed light in and gave me just enough of a view to see the silhouette of Carter as he walked by. I smiled as he stopped in front of my office door. He stood there for a moment and I waited patiently. Then, right when I thought he was about to open the door, he turned and walked the rest of the way down the hall and into his own office.

What the hell? I thought. That was weird. He always greets me on Monday morning and asks how my weekend was.

I was too confused to feel hurt by it and immediately decided that he must have just had something urgent to attend to in his office. I made the decision to wait patiently until lunch time. Then I'd talk to him.

For the tenth time that day, I checked my email. Still nothing. I just knew that Carter would email me any minute, he just had a lot of work to do. He was the chief executive. A billionaire. He'd make time for me when he could.

My stomach started to rumble. I moved my hand to my tummy. “You getting hungry in there?” I asked, then immediately admonished myself. I couldn't do this at work. For now, it had to be a secret.

Nobody could know that I was carrying Carter Winthrow's baby.

I sighed. I couldn't wait any longer. Carter had to talk about what we did sooner or later.

I walked out of my office and toward his, unsure of what I would say. Maybe I'd ask if he wanted to go to lunch together. Maybe he'd let me know he thought about me all weekend.

Maybe he'd fuck me again.

I liked the thought of that last one. His secretary wasn't around, so I knocked on his door. “Carter?” I asked, opening the door.

He looked up at me, then immediately looked back down, as if he couldn't be bothered. “What is it, Jane?”

“I just wanted to say hi,” I said. I closed the door behind me and walked up to his desk, deliberately sashaying a little bit. Sure enough, as he looked up again, he finally noticed the dark blue blouse that I had picked out. My cleavage was overflowing, and he couldn't help but take a quick glance. Just as quickly, though, he looked back down.

“Hi,” he said, then sighed. “I've got an insane amount of work on my plate today.”

Me me me, I thought. When is he going to think about the woman he called gorgeous a couple days ago? When is he going to acknowledge what we did?

I didn't say any of that though. “I'm sorry,” I said. I walked around his desk, putting a hand on his shoulder to let him know that, hey, I still wanted this too.

Abruptly he moved away from me. “I need you to look at these stocks today. These are all multi-million dollar...”

His voice might as well have trailed off, because I stopped listening. As soon as he was done talking, I said, “Carter, can we talk?”

“About what?” he asked.

About what!? I thought. About what??? How about how you bent me over your desk, tore my panties, and fucked me until you came? But again, I didn't say any of that.

“You know. About Friday. Look, I don't want anything to be weird between us. I don't think it has to be like that. But you acting standoffish like this is going to get us nowhere.”

For a moment, he looked thoughtful, and I thought he was going to agree to talk to me. Then, he slapped a pile of paper into my hand. “Just get this work done, Jane. We'll talk later.”

Would we? Would we really talk later? I was beginning to think he would just blow me off forever. He sat back at his computer and just began checking whatever was on his screen. I was beyond caring about that, though. I didn't know what to think. He switched over to an email, which was not to me, and began typing quickly. It was as if I was no longer in the room.

I slowly backed away, then turned and walked out of his room, trying not to cry, trying to keep my dignity. I didn't want to look back, either. I just wanted to get out of there.

I went back to my desk and threw the papers on the floor, then held my head in my hands. I wanted to scream, but I didn't want anyone to hear me.

I'd figure out a way to get Carter to pay attention to me again. It was only a matter of time.
