His eyes were soft, but his voice was firm. “We can’t. As nice as that sounds, we have to make sure this is taken care of. Matteo will never let me live, knowing I killed Piero. He’s a powerful man, and the only way to be safe from him is to be sure he’s dead.”
“I guess you’re right,” I admitted. “I’m just scared. I don’t want anything to happen to you.”
“It won’t.” He bent forward and pressed his lips to mine. “You’re the only person who could ever really hurt me.”
