Mateo Santiago by Katlego Moncho (17)

Chapter Seventeen: Confusion

He felt strange.

He didn’t know how else to describe what he was feeling. It had been a week that he’d felt this way. He was living his days as he normally did, but for the past week, he felt like he was living someone else’s life - like he was living outside of himself.

And not to forget the dreams.

He dreamt of luscious brown locks and the bluest eyes, but he also dreamt of golden tresses and emerald orbs. He dreamt of a beautiful laugh, and he dreamt that it made him smile. He never got to see the faces associated with the hair, save for their eyes, but the laugh was stuck in his head like an annoying melody.

And he did not like it one bit!

A part of him wanted to go on a manhunt to find whoever the woman was, but he knew it was futile either way. He was cursed to never have a mate, and he’d come to terms with that. He was the most feared Alpha in the world, and he provided for his pack. That was all that mattered.

So how come he felt like he was lying to himself?

“You alright there bud?” his best friend asked him.

Mateo cocked his head to the side. He’d known Orion all his life, and he knew that his best friend was either keeping something from him, or he was lying to him about something. It was an either/or situation and Mateo found himself wanting to throttle the guy before him.

But he couldn’t do that.

He wouldn’t be able to justify his actions if he did.

“What do you know?” he settled for asking.

Orion frowned. “Know? About what?”

Mateo sighed in frustration. “I don’t know.”

Orion raised an amused eyebrow. “You don’t know?”

“Don’t laugh at me,” Mateo growled.

Orion rolled his eyes. “Calm down Grizzly!”

“I wish June was here to calm your grumpy ass!”

The thought invaded Mateo’s mind and he wasn’t sure where it had come from, until he realized that it came from the very person before him. He frowned in thought. Since when could he willingly read the minds of his pack members?

“Who’s June?” Mateo asked Orion.

Orion froze. It couldn’t be possible that he could already remember, right? Orion watched his best friend closely and found that Mateo was truly confused, and so he could’ve been asking about the name because he’d seen it somewhere; reminding him of something.

He had to scout the pack lands, especially the pack house, for any traces of June’s existence there.

“I don’t know! You tell me,” Orion instead played back. His best friend’s eyes narrowed instantly.

“You’re the one thinking about this June person!” Mateo snapped. Orion couldn’t keep his shock hidden.

“What?” he asked wide-eyed.

“You wish whoever June is, was here to calm my grumpy ass. Am I not correct?” Mateo asked in a dangerously low tone.

Orion was stumped. Since when could his best friend read minds? Unless if it’s a trait he’d earned from June herself.

“How did you know that?” Orion instead asked.

“The thought jumped into my mind Orion,” Mateo replied, maintaining his stoic stance. Orion knew then that his best friend was truly getting pissed off with him.

He sighed. “You wouldn’t believe me if I told you.”

“Try me!” Mateo said, deadpan. He watched as his best friend hesitated.

“She’s your mate, wife and mother of your unborn children,” Orion honestly stated.

Mateo sat for a good five minutes staring at the buffoon before him. He had looked for all the signs that show that Orion was lying, but his best friend didn’t even break a sweat. He stuck by his absurd statement, making Mateo reach one conclusion. Sam and Trey rushed into the office.

“Yes Alpha?” they replied to his call.

“Lock him up!” he commanded.

“WHAT?” Orion, Sam and Trey said together.

“You’re possessed! You’re my best friend and I’m going to find you some help!” Mateo told Orion.

“You think I’m making this up?” Orion asked incredulously.

Mateo raised an eyebrow. “What else would explain the bullshit you just told me?”

“What did he say?” Trey asked.

“He says I have a mate and wife by the name of June, who is apparently currently pregnant with my unborn children,” Mateo informed Sam and Trey. The two of them looked at Orion unsurely.

“Are you okay, buddy?” Sam asked him.

“I’m not making this up!” Orion growled, his wolf surfacing.

“But you know about the curse, so why are you making up stories?” Sam asked.

“I’m not making up anything!” Orion snapped.

“Lock him away until I get him an exorcist,” Mateo instructed.

Before they could get to him, Orion shifted and ran for it. It was only seconds later that he noticed the black beast on his tail. He knew he wouldn’t make it out alive if he kept running, but he wouldn’t let them lock him away like an insane person.

When the beast growled loudly, Orion stopped and turned, only to see the beast fighting to get to him. There was a sort of invisible barrier that was stopping him though. Orion looked ahead of him to find Juniper and Max standing before him. Max looked very amused, while Juniper looked sad as she held her hand up. They were both in their Naturalist states.

“Really Ry? We leave you for a week and you have him trying to kill you?” she sighed. He went behind a tree and shifted, putting on the pair of shorts he found there.

“I told him the truth and he wanted to lock me up. He’s convinced that I’m possessed!” Orion defended. June still had the barrier up, and Zeus was still fighting it.

She scowled at him. “Why would you tell him the truth?”

“He heard my thoughts and asked me who June was. He knows when I’m lying to him, so I went with the truth,” he explained.

“He heard your thoughts?” both Max and Juniper asked in surprise.

“I sure as hell didn’t tell him to his face that I wished you were there to calm his grumpy ass,” Orion replied.

“Well, this is interesting,” she commented.

“Not as interesting as watching him try get to us,” Max chuckled. The beast was still staring at them, growling as ferociously as ever.

“How come he’s not recognizing you as his mate?” Orion asked curiously.

“This is not the image he’s seeing of me right now. He’s seeing some random image I made up in my mind. It’s the same with Max,” June replied.

“Great going with my death by the way,” Max sarcastically added, deadpan.

“I panicked!” Orion defended.

“Yeah! We gathered that you do that a lot,” June managed a giggle.

Orion smiled at the sight of his Luna laughing. “So, what now?”

“Well, as much as I love seeing the love of my life so untamed, you’re coming with us,” she replied.

“What about Mateo?” Orion asked.

“He’s already going insane, just from looking at him now we can tell. We’re trying to unlock his family secrets as fast as we can so that everything can return to normal,” Max replied.

“Can’t he hear us right now?” Orion asked.

“Nope! In fact, he probably thinks you’re talking to the people who possessed you. I think he’s going to think of you as a traitor for a while since you’re leaving with two people he’s unfamiliar with,” June analyzed. The more she stared at the beast, the more her heart broke.

“We should go,” Max suggested, as he touched her shoulder. She nodded sadly before Max teleported Orion and himself away.

For a few seconds, June let down the image she’d shown Mateo and instead showed him her witch. The beast stopped growling, and instead looked like he was confused by something. He hadn’t even realized that she’d let the barrier down.

“I love you,” she told him in Old Naturalist tongue, knowing that he would never understand.

The beast continued to stare at her, until she decided that it was enough torture. It took a step towards her, and she stepped back, which earned her a growl. She smirked at the beast, taunting it. He took the bait and growled louder. She winked at it and it launched itself at her, only to land on nothing but land.

Zeus and Mateo were frustrated to no end!

Those red eyes!

There was something about them, and not just their color. There was something about that voice, and the witch was definitely pregnant. They both knew it had been a witch because of the barrier.

They were pissed off at the gall of the woman. How dare she taunt them? Did she not know who they were? Also, where the hell had they taken his best friend? Things weren’t adding up, but at the same time, they were.

Mateo realized that the reason he’d been feeling so strange was because of the deception that was clear as day before him. His best friend had betrayed him, even though he refused to believe it. He would rather believe that Orion had been possessed, and from the two witches he’d just seen, he knew that his theory couldn’t be so far off.

He went for a run for hours, trying to figure out what his next move would be. In the space of a week, he’d lost his Beta and Gamma. Things weren’t looking good, and for the first time in his life, Mateo felt the beginnings of a panic attack.

He knew he had to remain calm, but the odds didn’t look like they were in his favor. Still, he knew he could take on whatever was coming his way. He was feared for a reason, and he wouldn’t let that reason be forgotten.

He ran back to the pack house with the intent of taking a shower and strategizing. He took the shower, but walked out of his bathroom to find a half-naked Naomi waiting for him. He’d been curious about the woman’s whereabouts.

“Naomi, can I help you?” he said as he went into his closet to change.

“Oh no, Alpha! I’m here to help you,” she purred.

“And exactly how do you intend to do that?” he asked. He wasn’t interested in anything she had to offer.

He had never been.

“Come on Mateo,” she whined.

“First of all, that’s Alpha to you,” he warned, turning to her with a menacing glare that had her cowering.

“Secondly, there’s nothing you could offer me right now, or ever for that matter,” he finished off.

She bravely reached out to touch him, and for the first time in his life, he felt truly repulsed by a woman’s touch. He couldn’t understand it. It was like he was already branded and Naomi’s touch just felt wrong.

“What’s that?” she asked as she stopped, her eyes zoning in on his shoulder.

“What’s what?” Mateo questioned.

“That!” Naomi said as she touched the mark on his shoulder.

The repulsion returned tenfold and he felt himself becoming dizzy. He slapped her hand away from himself before making his way to his mirror. Right there, on his neck, were two holes that indicated that he’d been marked. He couldn’t believe that he hadn’t seen it before as he reached out to touch it.

It had no scent!

“Shit!” June hissed as her shoulder burned.

“Mommy!” Rose scolded, but Juniper was too gone to hear it. She ran downstairs as fast as she could. When she got there, the people present were startled by her abrupt presence.

“What is it?” Gail panicked.

“The mark!” June replied.

“The mark?” Balthazar, Boris, Merlin, Mama Deo, Gail and Mark asked in confusion.

“I marked Mateo back, twice! He just touched the mark, which means he knows he’s mated!” June explained. Everyone’s eyes widened.

“Well, at least he’ll believe me now,” Orion commented.

“That’s beside the point here! It was safe with him thinking that you’re possessed. He wasn’t supposed to find out that you were actually telling the truth!” June panicked.

Max hugged her. “Calm down June Bug.”

“Perhaps this isn’t such a bad thing,” Mama Deo pointed out.

“What do you mean?” June and Gail asked her.

“Well, Juniper’s mission is to find out about Mateo’s past, correct? The rule was that she was not to reveal herself to him, but nothing was said about him finding her,” Mama Deo explained.

“You think he’s going to look for her?” Balthazar asked.

“There’s a high probability. He just saw his best friend get kidnapped after telling him that he was mated and married, and now he finds out that he’s mated. Mateo isn’t stupid, and he’s probably already looking for answers,” Mama Deo pointed out.

“That makes sense, but what do we do now? Do we mess with his plans, or do we just let him find us?” Boris asked.

“We don’t let him find us, especially June, but we don’t mess with his plans either,” Merlin replied.

“This sounds so complicated,” June groaned.

“It isn’t. You just need to not let it get to you. Keep your eyes on the ball,” her brother told her.

She would do just that, no matter how much she was yearning for her mate.

He felt a familiarity wash over him - one he’d only heard about from the stories told to all werewolves. He felt his mate. She was touching his mark, just like he’d touched hers. He could feel all the positive emotions rushing through her, but he also picked up one - sadness.

He couldn’t believe it!

Orion had been right. He was mated! He wasn’t all too sure about the marriage part, and whether or not his mate was indeed pregnant, but he was sure that he had a mate, and she was alive somewhere; which brought him to his next question.

Where was she?

If he really was mated, then shouldn’t his mate have been with him in that moment? More questions flooded his mind. When did he get marked? Why couldn’t he remember anything about it? Why would she leave? Were they really married? Was she really pregnant with his children?

The thought of his pups made all his other thoughts halt. Pups are what he’s yearned for, but he was told he couldn’t have pups with a mate. He didn’t fancy having pups with just any chosen woman because women didn’t capture his attention.

But apparently one did.

And he had no idea where or who she was.

His thoughts turned to another interesting thing that was bothering him. His pack members hadn’t been acting like people who have a Luna, and yet he was mated. Had he got secretly mated? Had he been tricked into mating someone? Would the woman come back years later with her children so that they could claim his pack?

WHAT THE HELL WAS GOING ON?

He could feel a mild headache coming on, and combined with the sudden anger he was feeling, he was basically a ticking bomb. He almost felt sorry for anyone who would encounter him within the next few days, let alone hours.

It frustrated him to no end to know that he had a situation on his hands that had too many loopholes. Something wasn’t right, and he already knew that much, but he couldn’t, for the life of him, think straight. He didn’t know where to start looking for answers.

It was at that moment that he missed his Gamma. Max had always had the uncanny ability to figure his Alpha out without him having to say anything. Mateo would go to him if he needed something to be figured out, or at least a starting point.

Thinking about Max, Mateo realized that Orion had lied to him about Max as well. They’d had a memorial service for someone he was now sure was still alive and well - he just didn’t know where the said Gamma was.

Much like his supposed mate.

Before he could do anything, Sam and Trey barged into his office.

“We’re about to be attacked!” they announced.

Mateo scowled. “What?”

“We’re about to be attacked. There are at least three packs coming at us from the southern, eastern and western borders!” Trey told him.

“Any clue what’s brought on the attack?” Mateo asked curiously.

“No,” Sam and Trey replied, although they were curious about why their Alpha was so relaxed.

“How many wolves are we talking here?” Mateo asked as he stood up.

“About seven hundred at best,” Sam replied.

Mateo smirked. “Excellent!”

Sam and Trey were confused by their Alpha’s sudden actions, especially when he jumped out the window, shifting mid-air. What they were not aware of, was that Zeus was hungry to take out his anger on something.

The three packs had arrived and had the pack house surrounded. The wolves snarled at the huge beast, even though most of them were actually in awe of the wolf. They’d heard rumors about it and its size, but they didn’t imagine it all to be true.

The beast stood proud as it watched all the wolves snarling at it. It was amused more than anything and commanded its pack members not to do anything. He was curious about the sudden ambush, and luckily for him, the three Alphas of the attacking packs hadn’t shifted. Instead, they all stepped forward in their human forms.

“Alpha Mateo Santiago, you have been found guilty of genocide in the European regions within the past three months!” one of the Alphas spoke up.

The beast cocked its head to the side, daring the Alphas to further explain themselves.

“Don’t stand there and act like you know nothing about what we’re talking about!” another of the Alphas snapped, receiving a low growl from Zeus. Even with the low growl, people were slightly terrified.

“That’s because he doesn’t know what you’re talking about,” a new voice joined them.

The beast looked towards the person whom the voice belonged to in confusion. He didn’t know the dark haired man with the steel blue eyes, but he could sense the power from him. He could also scent out two scents on the man - one that he was vaguely familiar with, and one that was tingling with his senses.

“Alpha Iglesias!” the Alphas said in respect of the man before them.

“Alpha Hines, Alpha Dune and Alpha Bronze,” Dante nodded in acknowledgment.

“What proof do you have that he’s not guilty?” Alpha Hines asked him. Zeus watched on curiously, although the second scent on the European Alpha was bothering him.

“He hasn’t left the States in a year now. He’s been here the entire time,” Dante replied.

“That is impossible! We saw him attack our packs with our very own eyes!” Alpha Dune snapped.

Dante sighed. “Alpha Dune, calm down! I assure you that Mateo Santiago isn’t the man who attacked your packs.”

“You are insulting us!” Alpha Bronze growled.

“Did you see his wolf do it, or just a man who looks like him?” a new voice asked. Zeus growled when his eyes landed on the very cousin he’d banished years back.

“You’d do well to not growl at my mate, Mateo,” Dante growled at him. Instead of getting angry, Zeus found himself complying and pulling back.

“We saw the man attack us!” Alpha Dune replied.

“So, what you’re saying is that you didn’t see this wolf attack you?” Maya asked.

“Well, no!” Alpha Dune said with a scowl.

“Then all of you go home!” Dante instructed.

“WE’RE NOT LEAVING HERE UNTIL WE GET OUR REVENGE!” Alpha Bronze shouted.

“Touch him and I swear you’ll die the most painful death!”

All eyes turned to the red-eyed, white-haired pregnant woman. Zeus perked up at the sight of her, and something strange stirred within him. A strong sense of protection rushed over him as he watched her walk towards him.

“You’re a witch!” Alpha Hines exclaimed.

“Congratulations on your deduction skills! Now, if you’d like to leave in one piece, I’d suggest you leave now, before I make you,” June warned.

Alpha Dune scoffed. “You’re nothing but a filthy whore!”

Zeus immediately reacted with a growl that shook the very earth they were all standing on. For the first time since their arrival, the attacking packs were truly terrified.

“Calm down,” June said as she reached out to push her hand through Zeus’ fur. Everyone stood stunned as the beast purred contently, shocking even himself.

“Look, as you can see, I’m pregnant, and I’m really not in the mood for this. Just leave,” June sighed, telling the Alphas.

“What are you to him?” Alpha Hines asked her.

“I don’t see how any of that is your business,” she said.

Alpha Dune chuckled. “One would swear you’re his mate, but that’s absurd!”

Zeus’ ears twitched at the Alpha’s statement before he looked down at the woman before him. She didn’t have blue or green eyes, and neither did she have black or brown hair, but there was one thing that was positive about her.

She was pregnant.

He didn’t know if it could be seen on his form, but his eyes narrowed on her belly. He could hear two clear heartbeats coming from there, suggesting that she was carrying twins. That was the only thing that ruled out the possibility of her being his mate, despite the fact that she’s also a witch.

But then, there was the question of why she was so protective of him.

“Like I said, it’s none of your business, but you’re damn near pissing me off, and I do not make good company when pissed off,” June threatened as she narrowed her eyes, crossing her arms over her bulging belly.

“Again, you’re a filthy whore and we’re not afrai…” Alpha Dune started, only to be flung into the air and held there.

“Call me a filthy whore one more time! I dare you!” June sneered.

Zeus and Mateo found themselves completely enthralled with the woman before them. She was clearly powerful, but they still couldn’t tell what she was and what she was doing on their land; protecting them.

“Why are you so adamant on protecting him?” Alpha Bronze asked the question of the moment.

“Believe it or not, and trust that I don’t care whether or not you believe this, but Mateo has an imposter who is causing trouble for him across the world. He hasn’t left his pack lands in almost a year, but we’re aware of this imposter that’s attacking in his name. Your packs were amongst those that were attacked, and right now, as we speak, this very imposter is attacking in South America, and yet the beast stands before you,” June replied. This caught Mateo’s attention.

An imposter?

Killing in his name?

“How do you know this? How do we know you’re not lying?” Alpha Hines asked. Alpha Dune was still in the air.

“Did you not just hear what I said? I do not give even the slightest bit of care whether or not you believe me. Your belief in me will not change the facts, and neither will it make any sort of difference in the situation, except maybe to change your mind about attacking this pack and leaving while you’re still breathing,” June said in a bored tone.

“You’re very confident for a witch,” Alpha Bronze commented.

“I’m also a very powerful witch who has no reason to fear any of you. I could take all of you out in the blink of an eye and I wouldn’t even feel sorry about killing you because I warned you multiple times to leave!” June said, her anger rising. The skies above them were slowly darkening.

“Rissa,” Maya called to her.

Rissa?

Mateo had never heard that name before. It also confirmed that the woman before him was definitely not his mate. If he remembered correctly, Orion had said his mate’s name is June, and not Rissa.

“What?” June replied, turning to her. Maya pointed to the sky.

“If these people could leave, then maybe I might be in a better mood to bring back the fucking sun!” June snapped.

Dante and Maya watched June in confusion. They had all agreed that she would stay away from Mateo, and yet here she was, protecting him and bringing about bad weather to the pack lands because she was getting pissed off. There was something off about her, but they couldn’t figure it out, and they were wise enough to know not to bother trying at that very moment.

Mateo and Zeus watched the woman intently. There was definitely something about her that stuck out to them. Their eyes spotted the ring sitting comfortably on her wedding ring finger. She was married and pregnant, which sparked something in them.

Her shoulder!

They looked at it, and right there, were two holes. She may be a witch, but she’s mated to a werewolf. A cross mating like that was only possible with powerful beings, because the weaker being would die if both mates weren’t strong enough to handle the mating. They were both sure that she was mated to someone powerful and probably strong.

The thought just never occurred to them that it could be them.

“You’re controlling the weather?” Alpha Hines asked June, wide-eyed.

“I can do a whole lot more damage depending on my mood,” June replied just as she dropped her hold on Alpha Dune.

“ATTACK!” Alpha Dune commanded the wolves they’d brought.

June, Dante, Maya and Mateo had already picked up that the wolves were rogue recruits, and they’d already figured out that the three Alphas would never risk their own remaining pack members in the bloodbath.

Zeus was more than happy to snap some necks. It was a stress reliever of sorts, despite the foul rustic scent and taste of rogue blood. June only watched on, honing in on her hormones. It was already dangerous enough that she was there in person. She didn’t need to release the one thing that would confirm her mating to Mateo.

She was battling though.

Watching her magnificently structured husband move in his beastly form was one of the sexiest things she’d admit to have ever seen in her life. He was beyond impressive, and if it were up to her, she would jump him the moment he shifted back into his human form.

But that couldn’t happen.

The fight didn’t last all that long, and Dante, Maya, Juniper, Alpha Dune, Alpha Hines, Alpha Bronze and the pack members of the Vista Pack were all stunned into silence. While the beast had been injured here and there, he had completely massacred the rogues.

The scariest part was that he looked hungry for more.

And they were right.

He slowly turned towards the attacking Alphas, his muzzle dripping with the evidence of his brutality; the evidence of his pure power. He growled lowly, sauntering towards them as they cowered in fear.

June could remember that Mateo hated this about himself - his need to kill. She didn’t want him to feel guilty about it when everything was over, so she stood before him. The beast was startled by the interruption, and growled at her. She didn’t even flinch, taking him aback.

She furrowed her brows. “Growl at me like that one more time and I’ll fling you to a tree.”

The beast cocked its head to the side, challenging her. She shrugged and raised her hand before flinging it towards a tree, effectively throwing the massive wolf against the bark and splitting it. Again, shock settled in the air as they all watched on. The beast got up, and while many of them expected anger, he was stunned into not reacting.

There was more to the witch, and he would make it his mission to find out exactly what that is. He went behind a tree and shifted, putting on a pair of jeans he’d found there before stepping out to meet his visitors in person.

June had to keep from moaning at the sight of her rugged mate. He hadn’t shaved his beard in a while, and it only added to his current image. Sweat was dripping down his torso; the very torso that was also muddy. His wounds were healed, but his body still had blood on it that didn’t belong to him.

“Do you want to explain yourself before or after I kill you?” Mateo asked Alpha Dune. The Alpha was frozen in fear.

“We need to go,” Maya said to June. She knew that now that Mateo was back to his human form, it was getting even more dangerous for June to be there.

What she didn’t know, was that June had to be there.

“You’re going nowhere, cousin,” Mateo told Maya.

“Watch how you talk to my mate,” Dante warned. Mateo nodded in respect. He didn’t have any problems with the European Alpha, and he didn’t wish to start now.

He turned to June. “Who are you?”

June shrugged. “Someone.”

“That’s not good enough! You’re on my land, so you answer when I ask you a question!” Mateo snapped. June wanted to laugh since it’s her land too.

“That’s great and all, but no. I don’t have to do anything that you say,” she taunted. Mateo was getting more and more annoyed by the fact that he didn’t intimidate her even a little bit.

“Look, these men are upset, and reasonably so. Instead of punishing them, I suggest we all work together to bring down this imposter,” Dante suggested, breaking the tension between the mates.

Mateo raised a challenging eyebrow. “You want me to work with them after they tried to kill me?”

“That’s exactly what you’re going to do,” June told him.

“And who are you to tell me what to do?” Mateo asked her.

“I’m the one person you want to avoid pissing off for your own future benefits,” she replied, a hint of amusement evident in her voice.

He narrowed his eyes. “Suggesting?”

“Now babe, where’s the fun in telling you that?” she teased.

“Don’t test me, baby doll,” he growled.

June was taken back to the first time he’d said that to her. It was back at the hospital when he knew her as ‘Caroline’. It was also the first time he’d called her ‘baby doll’ and she swooned at the use of the name.

Even if he didn’t remember her, she was still his baby doll.

Mateo couldn’t explain it, but the term of endearment felt natural rolling off his tongue. The even stranger feeling was the fact that it felt natural to say it to her.

Dante and Maya watched on amusedly. Even if the one mate didn’t remember the other, they still had a strong couple dynamic that most mates only dreamed to have. There was a certain splendor about the power of the pull between true mates.

Mateo may not have understood it at that very moment, but deep inside, he felt it.

“How about we take this inside? I think you’ll find that the information I have to share is pretty interesting,” June suggested.

“I don’t doubt that for a minute. You’re a very stubborn woman,” Mateo found himself joking. The other Alphas couldn’t believe it.

June rolled her eyes. “Pssh, says the most hard-headed Alpha on the planet!”

“What would your husband make of you insulting Alphas like this?” Mateo challenged. June almost laughed, but managed to keep a straight face.

“I’m a widow, and I believe you are too,” she said.

Mateo froze.

“I am?” he frowned. June caught Maya and Dante’s eyes.

“You are,” they ‘confirmed’.

“What happened?” Mateo asked, his ears not believing what he was being told.

He had felt her touch his mark.

“She had an affair with my husband, and they were both killed for it,” June said ‘sadly’.

Mateo was stunned.

“She cheated on me? Orion said that I was married, mated and she was pregnant,” he said. June wanted to tell him the truth there and then, but she had a new plan in mind.

She was intent on having an affair with her husband.
