Under Your Spell: Cajun Demons MC by Cynthia Rayne (15)

Epilogue

Chloe

A month later…

“Are you sure about this?”

“Yes, I want to release them both and this is the perfect spot.”

I stood next to Saint in the backyard, beside the rose garden Mamie loved with the two urns.  I’d removed them from the family crypt this morning and I wanted to lay my mother and grandmother here to rest, on our family’s property, where they belonged.

Things were going well for me and this was finally time to pay my respects and release their spirits.  My grandmother’s killer had been punished. According to the police, Viola and her husband had left town. But I knew better.

The Demons had taken care of both bodies and made it look as if they’d gone on a long vacation—shutting off the electricity, packing clothes, ditching one of their cars. I didn’t know all the particulars, and I wasn’t about to ask.

I shook the ashes out into the garden until the urns were empty. Saint solemnly stood by side.

There you go, Mamie and Mom. Now, you’re free.

Tears streaked down my face and Saint tugged me into his arms. The hard wall of his chest was comforting, familiar. We held each other for a long time, rocking.

“Are you alright?” he asked, pulling back to look at me.

“Yeah, I’m fine. This feels right.”

My life had settled into a new normal. Nettie had been teaching me both voodoo and witchcraft.  Although, I preferred green magic. I wanted to be a healer, a hedge witch like Mamie. I was no longer a skeptic, although I don’t believe all the local legends.

Mamie had saved me that night in the forest, and no one would tell me otherwise.

I’d quit my job at Carrefore, because I got accepted to Tulane’s law school, which was pretty prestigious. They’d also given me an assistantship, so my classes were free in exchange for working part-time in their law library.  I’d also taken on a couple freelance writing gigs, blogging about legal matters. Finally, I was putting my degree to good use.

We’d been figuring this relationship out, day by day. Saint spent most nights at my place. As far as the club was concerned, I was his old lady. Saint hadn’t even so much as glanced at one of the succubi, and we seemed to be on the fast-track to a more permanent arrangement.

“Speakin’ of movin’ on, what do you say we move in together?” Saint asked.

The question was casual, even though his expression was intense.

I gaped at him. “Really?”

“Yeah. I’m ready to make more of a commitment, are you?”

“Yes.” I didn’t even hesitate. “I thought you’d never ask.”

He grinned. “Excellent, then I’ll get my gear and bring it over to your place this weekend.” Apparently, he wasn’t wasting any time.

I sighed. “I’m pretty sure Mamie would’ve been appalled.”

Saint raised a brow. “Well, if you prefer, we could make even more of a commitment.”

“Saint…”

He winked. “Just think about it, Little Bit, and get back to me.”

 “One thing at a time.”

“Alright, but if you wanna talk about it some more, I’ll be right here. By your side. And I ain’t goin’ anywhere. Ever.”

“Neither am I.”

And then he grasped my hand and led me back into my house.

 Our house.

Maya

I’m a trouble-maker, a black sheep. And I’ve been carrying around a devastating secret for years. I haven’t even told my own brother. It’s the reason I keep men at arm’s length.

Unfortunately, I need help.

Someone is stalking girls, killing them. And I think I’m next. The problem is, I can’t ask the motorcycle club for help, because I’ve got other secrets to protect. Xav is dangerous, a smuggler, and he has the resources to keep me safe, but the man’s obsessed with me.  Can I trust him?

Xav

I was born to privilege and I’ve had everything I’ve ever wanted. Except the woman I loved. One night, she was just gone, and I’ve been alone ever since. Until I clapped eyes on Maya. She could be my lost love’s twin, and I’ll do anything it takes to claim Maya, possess her. And there isn’t a line I won’t cross to keep her safe.

No one will take her from me. No one.

“Your brother wouldn’t want you here, Maya.”

Yes, I knew that, which was an added bonus.

I was lying back in a chair over a sink, while Crow, a biker/hairdresser washed my long hair. He had big hands, which were surprisingly gentle as he massaged the shampoo into my scalp.

Crow was a beautiful man—high cheekbones, long, flowing black hair, midnight eyes. His body was muscular, fit. Crow was tall, excellent with his hands, and the proverbial forbidden fruit.

 How could a girl resist?

And like my brother, Saint, he was a member of the Cajun Demons MC, which pretty much made him catnip. Saint didn’t want me dating a biker and pissing him off would be a lot of fun.

“Do you really care what Saint thinks?”

Crow snorted in response. “No, but I respect family.”

Okay then. I closed my eyes and got lost in the magic of his touch once more.

“Not to stereotype, but you're like a unicorn. There aren’t many straight male stylists.”

“I learned early on, I could spend my days touching women, hearing their secrets as they gossiped. What man wouldn't want to do this?” Crow whispered the words into my ear and goosepimples erupted all over my skin.

When I dragged my eyelids apart once more, I saw Xavier Richelieu watching me through the picture window.

Seriously? What a stalker.

The man followed me around like a lost puppy dog. I can’t even figure out why he’s got the hots for me. It’s not like I’m nice to him.

I barely resisted the urge to stick my tongue out at him. Instead, I spread my legs, and wrapped them possessively around Crow’s thigh with a smirk.

His nostrils flared, and his fists clenched at his sides.

Oh, this is fun. I love provoking a reaction.

But then he opened the front door of the shop, and his expression was thunderous.

Oh shit.
