Blood of the Alpha (Full Moon Series Book 7) by Mia Rose (6)

For Life

“Don’t be scared of the dark, it’s the things in the dark you need to be scared of.”

The nurse came back and whispered into the doctor’s ear. He glanced at Kelvin and shook his head. “Good call kid, I think you're going to save Kat’s life. Your blood type’s AB-positive, which is rare. It’s not the rarest we’ve had in the hospital, that honor falls on another local girl.”

“I told you I was special,” Kelvin said with a huge and satisfied grin. Kelvin looked toward the nursing station and saw a nurse as she busied herself with her cell phone. It’d been a casual glance, so he thought no more about it.

Probably just updating her social media.

The nurse lifted her head and smiled at Kelvin, then she busily headed off down the hallway with a tray full of medication. She paused and glanced back before she vanished into the ward.

Dustin raised himself from the bench and stood, along with Kelvin and the EMT, who was now on a break eating a donut and drinking coffee. “So, there’s no more we can do here then?” he asked as he held his lightweight waterproof jacket in his hands.

The doctor shook his head. “No, Kat is stable. With Kelvin's help she’ll be fine, a little sore when she wakes up, but no long-term damage,” the doctor replied. He was a kind man, and he put his hand on Kelvin's shoulder and squeezed him gratefully.

“Is it okay if I come back to visit when she’s awake?” Kelvin asked.

“I think that’ll be okay, and I’m sure Kat will want to thank you herself, in person.”

“I’ll leave it a couple of days, so she has a chance to get her wits back,” he replied, giving a chuckle that was bathed in relief.

Dustin and Kelvin turned and started to walk toward the emergency room exit. The doctor called out, “Hey, Kelvin, you might consider donating some of that special blood you have inside you.”

“Sure thing, Doc, I’ll definitely think about it.”

The rain had stopped as they walked from the hospital. The clouds cleared, and stars shone brightly in the night sky. Kelvin looked up and smiled. “You wanna walk back to the Towers or get a cab?”

Dustin placed his waterproof jacket over his shoulder. He slapped Kelvin on his back. “Let’s walk, it’s been a good night.”

They chatted as they walked under the golden glow of the street lights. Shadows fell before them and moved to their rear as they strolled down the almost-deserted streets. Headlights twinkled in the distance as solitary vehicles crossed the intersection or headed into their direction.

“Dustin, have you ever known anyone to be turned by having a blood transfusion?”

“I don’t think it can work like that. It has to be a bite as far as I’m aware, yet we found out a vampire-werewolf can be created by injection, so I really don’t know,” he replied. “Why do you ask, do you want to turn her?”

“You have to admit, she is kinda cute, and she’s more my age than Maria.”

“Ah! You have a new crush… the boy has come to his senses at last.”

“She looks like she’d make a good mate,” Kelvin said with a glint in his eye.

“By that; you mean an alpha’s mate?”

“You never know, I don’t plan on being a follower all my life,” Kelvin explained.

“I think you’ve chosen the wrong pack to become alpha in, no one can oust Declan from that position even if he isn’t here,” Dustin remarked. With relief, they rounded the corner into the street where the Towers were located.

“I’d move on and start my own pack, I’d never try and take Declan on and steal his throne,” Kelvin said. “How come you’ve never been an alpha, anyway?”

“Kelvin, I’m too much of a free spirit. Even when we were in the camp, I gave everyone equal rights, you can ask Maria about that,” he said as he grabbed hold of Kelvin's shoulder and pulled him into the shadows. “That car’s back at the side of the road.”

Kelvin pushed his back firmly against the brick wall. He peered toward the car. It was too dark to see the driver’s face, but he could see fingers and knuckles gripping the steering wheel. “What do you want to do?”

“I think we should watch a while and see if we can see a face. If they see us, they are just going to drive off again,” Dustin whispered.

“I can come up behind it, and surprise them?” Kelvin said.

“We don’t have much backup if anything goes wrong.”

Kelvin didn’t care about that. He pushed his body back to the street corner and sprinted to the bottom of the street. Dustin turned back to watch the car. He heard the engine ticking over, and a small plume of exhaust fumes spilled from the tailpipe.

He looked at the far end of the black street as Kelvin whistled. Dustin nodded as Kelvin walked closer to the wall and neared the parked car. Kelvin stepped under the streetlight. Dustin saw the lights turn on as the engine revved. The car started to pull from the curb as he ran forward to get a glimpse of the driver. The vehicle swerved and knocked him back to the curb. He picked himself back up and onto his feet as Kelvin sprinted to the rear of the car. Kelvin leaped and turned into his wolf as he landed on the roof of the vehicle. His claws raised and slammed into the roof. He ripped through the steel as he pulled the car roof toward him. Kelvin lashed at the roof, and the light from the dashboard fell onto the driver as they swerved to throw him off balance. Kelvin’s jaw locked on the steel as he yanked his head back. His arm pushed through the hole as he tried to grab the driver.

His head pushed closer and down into the hole. He saw that the hands were female, yet the driver wore a hood. His wolf lowered as he tried to grab the wheel. Kelvin raised his head.

Kelvin never saw the low branch until it was too late. “BANG!” went the noise of his fall as he was thrown from atop of the still-swerving vehicle.

He laid on the grass as his body changed back to its human form. His eyes blinked as he saw feet approaching him.

Dustin knelt over him. “Kelvin.” He tried to rouse him. “Kelvin,” he called. He became worried as he waited without a response. “Kelvin,” he yelled louder as he shook Kelvin’s shoulder.

Dustin raised his hand to slap Kelvin’s face. His eyes slowly opened. “What the fuck just happened?” he asked as he rubbed at his brow.

“Hero to zero, that’s what just happened,” Dustin remarked as he helped Kelvin to his feet. “Did you see the driver?”

“Give me a chance will you, I can still see two of you. It’s awful!”

Dustin tried to hold in laughter, but Kelvin was funny with his words. “Walk it off, you’ll be fine in a minute.”

Kelvin looked at the ground, a small piece of fabric laid on the street. He bent and picked it up and held it to his nose. “I better hang onto this. Maybe there’s enough scent to identify the driver, she is—” he started to say.

“It was a woman driving?” Dustin asked. “So, you did see?”

“No. Unfortunately, I only saw the hands. They looked like a woman’s fingers, they were thin and pale.”

Dustin held his arm under Kelvin's as they strolled back up the street. Kelvin's head had cleared, but now there was a significant red bump on his brow. They climbed the steps to the Towers and punched the security code into the door.

Kelvin sighed as he stepped inside. “What a night. I’m gonna head off to bed.” Obviously still in some pain, he rubbed at his brow.

“You can’t sleep, you might have a concussion.”

“I’ve had worse.”

Dustin shook his head as he followed Kelvin up the marble staircase. “I’ll sit and watch, just in case, you can’t be too careful with a bang on the head.”

“Dustin, now you’re sounding freaky.”

“Hey, things that go bump in the night never have a happy ending!” Dustin giggled, relieved that they were safe for the time being.

“Okay, you can sit and watch over me, but don’t get reading me no bedtime stories or I will—” he started to say.

“Or you’ll what? Wet the bed?” Dustin said with a thunderous roar of laughter.

Kelvin turned and held a clenched fist at Dustin. He grinned. “Nah, but I’ll give you a big freakin’ bump on the head.”

* * *

Maria stretched her legs over the end of the couch. She opened her eyes and realized she’d slept in the office. She stood and looked at her reflection in the mirror.

Bedhead if I’ve ever seen it.

She sighed as she pulled her fingers through her hair and opened the office door. Suzy looked up from the reception desk. “A long night?”

Maria shook her head. “I was waiting for Gabriel and Tanya to come and see me. I must’ve nodded off. If they come down, tell them to wait for me. I’m off for a shower.”

Maria went to her apartment and slumped herself onto her bed. She rested her tired head. She sighed as her mind wandered into and out of everything that was happening. After a few minutes, she stepped into the bathroom and hit the faucet. Water flooded from the shower as she removed her clothes.

She stepped into the water and rested her head on the side of the shower. She watched the water run down her jet-black hair and move in front of her feet. Maria rubbed soap into her large sponge and rubbed it over her naked, exhausted body.

Declan, Declan, Declan, what’ve you left me with?

Maria closed her eyes as the sponge glided over her soft skin. She thought back to how Declan had made love to her on the couch. It now seemed so long ago, and that time had been the last time she’d felt the warmth of a man.

Maria dropped the sponge and caressed her soapy body with her hands, her finger brushed over her breasts and flutters of butterflies tingled in her stomach as she glanced over the tips of her nipples. She sucked in a breath. She knew it was wrong and that Declan was with Noelle, yet no man had taken her and satisfied her as he had. They’d only spent a brief time together, yet she’d felt every ounce of his alpha inside of her. In fact, he’d taken her in her entirety, and she’d weakened and crumbled under his perfect touch. She’d become spellbound when he’d slid his manhood deep inside of her, and her body had given itself fully, and responded with an after-effect that was like pure magic.

Maria now pushed her hands in-between her legs. She parted her womanhood and inched her fingers inside of her wetness. Her other hand cupped her breast as she turned and rested her back on the wall of the shower. She raised her leg and rested it on the rim of the tub. Her tempo increased as she drove her finger deeper. The water crashed over her body, and drops fell from her nose and trickled down her flat belly. Her hand slapped against her body as water dropped to the base of the shower. She remembered back to how Declan pushed her body to the limit. His chiseled features and his god-like physique drove her to an explosive orgasm she’d never experienced before.

All those months ago, and she remembered it as if it was happening right in the moment of now. Maria mumbled Declan’s name as she slid a second finger inside. She slapped the palm of her hand against her body as she tugged on her hardened nipple. Her leg started to tremble as she felt pulses of ecstasy flood through her horny body. A final cry of pleasure escaped from her body as she held her fingers inside and enjoyed the blissful feeling of touching herself.

Declan had skillfully made her come like no other, yet he hadn’t finished inside her, that pleasure he saved for his alpha mate, and that was what Maria would never be. She held no grudge and could see he got what he always wanted. She, on the other hand, still wondered how her life would form. No man had ever made her feel that way. There was a reason he was alpha. In the bedroom, he definitely was a force to be reckoned with.

Maria’s body quivered as her glorious moment washed over her. Her legs clamped tight as her hand sat deep inside her body. Her belly fluttered and quivered. Waves of sexual splendor washed over her as she slumped hard against the shower wall. Her chest began rising and lowering as the final last breaths of sexual pleasure flooded from her burning lungs.

Maria washed all thoughts of Declan from her spent body. She showered in silence and thought of the events that happened recently, rather than focus upon what happened so many months ago. She stepped out of the shower and wrapped herself in her robe. She dried her hair and looked at her reflection as she dressed in front of the full-length mirror.

There is nothing wrong with me at all. I am very sexy. I just proved that to myself.

Maria dressed. She exited her apartment as her damp hair laid flat over her shoulders. She descended the stairs with the metallic tap of her heels hitting the marble steps. Suzy looked up and nodded to the office.

“Gabriel and Tanya are waiting,” she said.

Maria chuckled a little. “Let them wait. They’ve made me wait since yesterday. Not that I’m complaining. I’ve just had a tremendously-lovely shower!”

“I think the water was too hot. You have such a rosy glow on your face,” Suzy remarked as Maria bowed her head. The rosy glow was quickly being replaced by a slight blush.

She twisted the door handle to the office and walked inside. “I was expecting you last night.”

“You know how it is, I was exhausted,” Gabriel said.

“How many times have I heard that from a human, huh?”

“Well, it was a long day yesterday, and I think that hot shower did something to us,” Gabriel said, with a cheeky smile.

Maria giggled. “I know exactly what you mean. I’ll have to get the workmen to check the boiler,” she replied, walking to the large desk.

Tanya blushed. “It gets a little too steamy in there, sometimes.”

“Don’t be scared of the dark, it’s the things in the dark you need to be scared of.”
