Chapter Forty-One

Elisa

“No!”

I screamed. Upon unleashing my anger, a vase on a plant stand shattered. Water and plants blasted outward, crashing to the ground.

“What do you mean he’s gone?” I asked, rushing past a wide-eyed Alessia who had just delivered the news that my mate had taken off on a jet thirty minutes ago.

No wonder they’d been stalling me from leaving the estate.

Devin barged into the home through the double doors. He glanced at me once or twice and then diverted his gaze. At that moment, I knew he was guilty.

My mouth fell open in shock. “The two of you planned this, didn’t you? He went out to confront Osborne alone, didn’t he?”

“Elisa, there was never a plan for you to run into battle with him,” Devin stated. “No way. No how. Nada. Never.”

He turned swiftly away from me, making his orders final. Brian Hexel entered the home next with some empty duffle bags in his hands. I noted that Dinsel wasn’t there, which could only mean that Tristan’s most loyal had likely boarded the jet with him.

“So, you just want me to stay here and sit still and do spells?” I asked.

Devin said nothing as he crossed the room to speak directly with Hexel.

I walked up to them. “Hello? Newsflash! Tristan is not well. The venom running through his system can take a toll on him at any moment. The further away he gets from me, the less energy he’ll have.”

Alessia took my arm, glaring at me in disbelief. “You linked yourself to him, didn’t you?”

Devin frowned. “Elisa!”

I sighed. ”Yes. I did it so that he could actually move about without feeling pain. So that he would have a chance against the Osbornes with his venomous bite.”

“That’s risky,” Alessia said. “Where did you learn that kind of thing?”

“She’s done it before. With Roman,” Devin stated.

“This is different. It’s not a spirit link,” I corrected him. “It’s only a temporary link to draw from my energy source. As soon as he leaves these territories, the link will fade. I have to do something.”

I started off down the hall.

Alessia ran behind me. “Elisa, you have to preserve your energy. You nearly passed out in there when we were doing the spell. And to even think that you went into this with another shifter spirit drawing from your energy. I have no doubts that Tristan will persevere, but this temporary link is risky. Let's take a break so we can get started on that anti-venom spell when he comes back. Even Aris has gone down for a nap.”

I laughed. “A nap? You want me to take a nap with Tristan heading straight for a coven of vile witches who could end him with the flick of their wrist?”

I ignored their pleas until the moment I felt Alessia’s powers surging behind me.

I halted and spun around to find Devin standing beside Alessia with a look of dismay marring his expression.

“Do it,” he muttered.

“I…” Alessia, wide-eyed and innocent, looked at me. “I’m sorry, Elisa.”

“For her sake, do it,” Devin ordered once more.

With a wave of her hand, Alessia uttered one single command, “Somnus.”

A tense wave of nausea consumed me. Too bad I had nothing left in me to fight it off.
