Prince's Secret Baby by Riley Rollins (12)

12

After the elections and reforms, North Molvania flourishes. The borders open up for outside tourism, and the tourist lottery system is eliminated. For the first time, the country welcomes all visitors with open arms.

The government starts a new series of programs aimed at modernizing the cities and villages, bringing them up to par with the capital city. At last, the country's wealth of natural resources is used for the good of all the people, not just for lining the pockets of the ruling family.

The work camps in the south of the country are eliminated. Thousands of political prisoners are freed and allowed to return to their homes, and the hard criminals are transferred to modern and humane jails.

On the one-month anniversary of Freedom Day, Nikolai proposes to me over breakfast. We're eating scones and drinking freshly juiced orange juice from the orange grove near the Great Lawn, when he gets on one knee and pulls out a ring.

I accept, tears in my eyes.

Technically, that means when Nikolai and I get married, I'll be the First Lady since he's a president now and no longer a prince. I look forward to it, but I still prefer to think of myself as a princess. I always wanted to be one.

"It's titanium," he says, "mined from the very earth we walk upon." Embedded in it is one of the biggest diamonds I've ever seen. There are definitely some perks to marrying a prince—oh, wait—a president.

Ashley flies into the country from the United States and finally gets a proper tour. Back home, she met a really great guy, a doctor at one of L.A.'s most prestigious hospitals. I'm so happy to meet him, and ecstatic for them when she announces that they're pregnant.

"Send us the wish list for your baby shower," I tell her. Although Nikolai is on a fixed salary now that he's no longer a dictator, mining operations in the country are booming and there's plenty of money to go around. Plenty of money to give a nice boost to one of my oldest friends. And plenty of money to pay off my student loans forever.

The FBI takes a renewed interest in me, but this time it's not because I'm in trouble. Instead, they want me to act as a liaison between the United States and North Molvania, and I'm more than happy to accept. It'll mean a lot of long plane rides back and forth, but there's a possibility of an official ambassador position in the near future, and I think that would be an amazing next step for my career.

Meanwhile, I'm just so excited that we've made such a big difference for the people of this country. They were held down for far too long. They deserve happiness and opportunity, and they're finally getting it.

Josh is getting bigger now, and he's starting to talk. One of his first words was "princess," which he picked up from Nikolai. It's his new pet name for me.

I'm so excited to see what kind of person Josh grows up to be. I know that Nikolai is going to make a great father, and we're going to do the best we can to raise our son to be a good man. To prepare him to lead North Molvania even further into the future when his time comes.

As for Nikolai and I, we're planning our wedding, and it's going to be a huge international affair. Heads of states from dozens of countries have already RSVP'd, and our biggest problem will probably be keeping the paparazzi at bay. Most recently, we got word that the prince and princess of the United Kingdom will be in attendance, and that they want to take us on a double date before our honeymoon. I'm gonna have to brush up on my etiquette.

We also have a second little surprise on the way. I can't wait to see Nikolai's face when I tell him.

The circumstances that led to me meeting Nikolai were absolutely crazy. I never believed in fate, but he changed my mind. That's because I don't know how this could've happened any other way. We must have been fated to meet one another and to lead this country out of the darkness.

Life is sometimes truly stranger than fiction.

My days now are filled with meetings with foreign dignitaries, as well as raising Josh. At first I thought it would be impossible to be a good first lady and a good mother at the same time, but I'm getting better with practice. I still manage to read to him every night, even after long days spent in negotiations with foreign ambassadors.

Nikolai and I have never been better—including our sex life. I've never been pleasured the way he pleasures me, and I don't think there's another person on the planet who could do me better. We have an incredible natural chemistry, and I'm so thankful that I've gotten to experience it. Now I know what being in love truly feels like.

Love is a strange thing. It can sneak up on you when you least expect it. Find you in the most unlikely places. And when it finally hits you, it grabs on and it doesn't let go until it's had its way with you. My time with Nikolai and my son has truly taught me that love conquers all, and I know that it will continue to bind our family and keep us close for the rest of our lives.

Sometimes I miss California, but North Molvania is feeling more and more like home every day. My feet are getting to know the green pastures, and my eyes are getting used to the sights of the beautiful rolling hills.

I never expected to end up here with the Crown Prince Nikolai, but now that I am, I wouldn't change it for the world.
