Royal Hacker (White Hat Security Book 2) by Linzi Baxter (2)

Patty

“Before you get all huffy and ask me about being Bridget’s employee, I need to call my sister. Since you’ll bring Bridget and Alex into this now, I need to have my sister down here before Bridget comes. The second you tell Alex and Bridget that I’m here, they will come down to the club. I need her here for this,” I pleaded to the rock of muscle behind me.

“Okay, we will call your sister and then discuss you breaking into my club.” Sam paged a man named Brock, asking him if Asher and CJ were there.

The second Sam asked for Asher and CJ, I knew my day was going from bad to worse. CJ worked with me at White Hat Security, and Asher was CJ’s boyfriend and Alex’s brother.

Another tall man with short blond hair entered. His eyes were blue like the sky. His skin looked as though he spent time out on the ocean. I wondered if being hot was a requirement for working at the club. Or do they manufacture these men in the back room to look like this?

The handsome guy handed me a phone since mine was in my car. Then he said to Sam, “Asher and CJ are on their way up. They should be here any second.” I assumed the man made of muscles was Brock.

I tuned out Sam and Brock and dialed my sister’s number.

“Hello?” She sounded like I’d woken her up.

“Hey, it’s me. I did something you might be mad about.”

I could hear her huff on the other side. Asher and CJ walked into the room when Sam hit the speaker button on the phone. I was not happy about him listening in on the conversation and sent a laser-beam stare at him, and he raised an eyebrow.

“What did you do, sis? Please tell me I don’t need to call the lawyers again… Dad will make us move back if you don’t stay out of trouble.”

I could feel Sam tense a little at her words, and a look of surprise crossed CJ’s face. I needed to focus and fix my sister. “Let’s say I hypothetically hacked Doug’s iPhone account and located your husband’s phone, got a membership to a club he was at, walked into that club, and saw him having relations. I might have walked onstage and punched him and broke his nose. That club might have revoked his membership.” I turned to see the expression on Sam’s face behind me. He was trying hard not to laugh.

I could hear my sister trying to get her anger under control. “You need to stay out of my business, sis. I had it under control—I had a PI following him already. I’m working on the divorce. I didn’t want him to know I was investigating him. I don’t want him to get any extra money in the divorce.”

Not sure how to respond to that. I was a little hurt she wasn’t letting me help with what was going on in her life. “I’m sorry, sis. I love you and was worried about you. I’m afraid he might hurt you now. Can you go to my penthouse, or do you want me to reset the locks at yours so he can’t get back in? He can go stay at a hotel tonight.” I could tell she was thinking about it and wouldn’t be mad for long. I was her twin, and we couldn’t be upset at each other.

“If you have access to a computer, reset the alarm and erase his fingerprints to all the houses except the hotel suite. I will call downstairs and let the bellhop know not to let Doug up. I’m not mad, but I wish you would think before going off half-cocked. Let’s meet for lunch tomorrow, and you can help with a game plan. Do you need a lawyer to get out of the club, or are you going to be okay?” I looked over at Sam with my eyebrow raised, and he shook his head, in regard to legal counsel.

“Well, sis, we have a bigger issue. The club I might’ve broken into might have been Sam’s. Asher and CJ are both here right now, so can you come down here?”

“I can’t believe you. In one night, you messed up my investigation on my husband and blew our cover. You know how furious Alex and Bridget will be when they figure this out.” Then she hung up.

Sam looked at me with those chocolate-brown eyes and narrowed them. Okay, so I’m not out of the clear yet. What the hell will he say when I tell him I need to use his computer? I don’t know how I always get myself in these predicaments. I was in deep, and Sam was nothing but testosterone that made my lady parts become wet. I wondered if he would turn around so I could check out his ass. Shit, I need to protect my sister and get the lady parts under control.

“I need to use your computer for a second, maybe two seconds. CJ, I will explain everything once my sister gets here. I also assume that you’ve already called Alex and Bridget and they’re on their way. So why don’t I tell the story once,” I said in my sweetest voice. From the look on his face, I was not sure Sam would give me what I wanted.

“CJ, I trust you. Can you watch her while she’s on my computer?” Sam asked.

Well, that was rude.

“You have so much explaining to do, Patty. We are friends, but what the fuck is going on? I don’t understand how you could hack a computer when you can’t even get a virus off your work computer. Do what you need. I’m watching,” CJ huffed at me in an irritated voice.

“You don’t have to watch me. I won’t do anything to the system.”

Both men made a strange noise out of their throats.

“Boss man, I’m working on trying to find out how she got in our system. I don’t know how her ID passed, because it’s not in the system and should not have scanned through.”

It took everything in me not to fist pump for joy that my little code had done what it was supposed to. There would be no way for Brock to trace what I’d done. He might be good, but I’m so much better. I ignored both of them because I was not about to tell them what I’d done. Their bouncer had let me in, and they had no proof I was ever in their system.

I pulled up my program that ran all our houses, changed all the codes to the houses, then sent a text to our staff with the new code. I’d never trusted Doug with our coding system, so he wouldn’t be able to get in even if he got the password. Then I went into my sister’s phone account and tracked Doug to make sure he was not near her. I sent her a quick page through the system, letting her know he was at the hotel.

“That is a crazy program you have there. From the looks of it, you reset a bunch of house codes and have fingerprint scanners in the house and changed the fingerprint information. Which is strange because I’ve been to your apartment. It’s the size of a shoebox. What the hell is going on?” CJ demanded.

I shrugged. “How about we wait until everyone gets here, and then I’ll explain everything.”

If he’d looked closer, he would have noticed that I’d reset seven houses and three apartments. Hopefully, he wasn’t paying attention.

“I have an idea. Why don’t we pretend like I wasn’t here tonight and that you don’t know I have a sister?” I said in the sweetest voice of my life. So help me, I hope I can get out of here.

“No.” All three men said at once.

Waiting for everyone to show up was the most intense twenty minutes of my life. The men sat and talked about football. Sam kept me on his lap, and in a way, it felt very comforting and soothed me. When I tried to wriggle off Sam’s lap again, he told me, “You can’t leave yet. You broke club rules, put yourself in danger, and hacked our system, and Alex, Bridget, and your sister just got here.”

Okay, not sure how I will respond to this. I could admit I didn’t know club rules, but then that would mean I hacked his system. “First, I didn’t put myself in danger. Second, could you please explain how I broke club rules? Third, show me proof I hacked your system, and last, would you let me out the back door and just pretend like none of this happened?” I heard Brock trying to hold back laughter.

Sam, in his deep voice that was so rich it made my body vibrate, stated, “Let’s talk about your first one. You attacked a man that had six inches and at least seventy-five pounds on you. He could have hurt you more than you hurt him. Second, you interrupted a scene, which is against the rules. You cussed at another Dom and me, which is also against the rules, and third, I know you hacked us because you wouldn’t have had to ask which rules you broke because a member would have known the rules. I also vet each member, so I know every one of them—and believe me, I would have remembered you.”

“You broke someone’s nose, you’re in a BDSM club, and you have a fucking sister?” Bridget screamed at me from the doorway.

“Jessica, what are you doing here?” Alex asked my sister.

“Everybody, I’d like you to meet my sister, Jessica.”

Everybody seemed in shock after the announcement that Jessica was my sister. Many people’s mouths just kept opening and closing, but no words were coming out. So I figured I would start because nobody else knew the whole story.

First, I tried to get out of Sam’s lap, so I could sit on a chair to be on more even ground to tell the story. He held more tightly and said I needed to stay put. This will be a long night.
