Epilogue

 

Lily walked out of the airport and was slammed by a wall of humid air. She took a moment to stare at the blue sky as she fanned herself. Heat was one thing she was no longer used to.

Jostled by a hurried traveler, she nearly dropped the handle of her suitcase.

So many people. Everywhere she looked. This was why she hated leaving Antarctica.

At least she had a good reason for making the trip.

The prospect of seeing Kieran again was too much of a temptation to pass up, however.

It had been several months since that intense first meeting. He had ended up spending a few more days there trapped in the storm, giving them more time to become acquainted. Lily had liked the man she’d gotten to know. And the fact that he was spectacular in bed was a huge bonus.

The instant the car pulled alongside her and stopped, Kieran stepped out to greet her. “I’ve missed you.”

Lily watched him deal with the suitcase before sitting next to her. Within moments the car started moving.

She didn’t even care what was going on outside or that she was missing sights she’d never seen before pass by. “I thought you weren’t arriving in until later?”

“I caught an earlier flight and thought I’d surprise you.” He gave her a questioning glance. “Did I get it wrong?”

“Of course not!” Lily wound her arms around him as Kieran pulled her into his lap. “I thought I’d have time to sort myself out before we met up.”

“You’ve got time for that later.” His hand slid up under her t-shirt to push aside her bra.

“Definitely.” Kieran got his other hand involved now. “Much later, though.”

“I take it you have plans?”

Kieran chuckled. “Well,” he wrapped his arms around her, “I thought that since I got a look into your world, this time I could introduce you to mine.”

Lily relaxed in his embrace. How had she gotten so lucky?

“You still haven’t said anything about us spending more time together.”

“I’ve found a few new opportunities that will require me to travel a bit. Since meeting you, staying in Antarctica doesn’t quite hold the same appeal. I hoped that maybe you’d join me? If and when you can, of course.”

“Absolutely.” Kieran’s body relaxed even as his arms tightened around her. “In the meantime, I have a few research ideas I thought we could explore. Interested in hearing them?”

“Oh? Do tell.”

Lily’s heart stopped altogether when he pulled out a little velvet box and cracked it open. He only managed a sliver before the brilliant sunshine hit the diamonds inside, dazzling her with their sparkle.

“So?” He held the now open box for her appraisal. “What do you think?”

The massive center diamond winked at her from its nest of smaller ones. It was absolutely beautiful, but not half as amazing as the man.

Her wicked side prompted her to pout at him as she tried to hide her smile. “About what? I haven’t been asked a question.”

Kieran grinned, but he was serious when he said, “Marry me, Lily. I’ll make you happier than anyone else can.”

Nodding, brushed her lips against his. “You already do.”
