Ink Me: A Short Story (Queen of Hearts Ink Book 4) by M.K. Moore (3)

Chapter Three

Miles

Denver is a disaster. Jax, as I have started calling her is trying to be helpful, but the supplies I mailed never got to the convention center. I am calling the convention a wash after visiting a few booths, I suggested we go back to the hotel. She insisted we share a room, since I was footing the bill. It is exactly where I want her, so I do not say anything that would make her change her mind. I tried to be a gentleman by letting her sleep in the bed, but she plopped on the tiny, prissy looking couch for the last two nights. But, I am done with that shit.

“Jax, I’ll take the couch tonight.” I say. She looks up at me with her brown eyes big.

“No freaking way, Miles. I barely fit on this thing. You’re like a foot taller than me.” She says laughing.

“Then you should sleep in the bed with me. You can’t be comfortable.” I say. I want her by my side and I will do anything to get my way.

“I don't think that is a good idea.” She says, looking down at her lap.

“We can be adults about this.” I say. I do not mean it, but if it gets her in the bed…

“If you are sure?” She asks.

“I am positive. We are here for another three days. You can’t be cramped up like that the whole time.”

“Thanks, Miles. You are a good man.”

I smile at her words, because I do not know what to say about that. My thoughts sure ain’t pure.

“Get dressed. I am taking you out to dinner.” I say, instead. I am going to tell her about my past, so she can make an informed decision, before I claim her. Her little pajama shorts and a man’s flannel shirt are driving me fucking crazy. I hate seeing another man’s shirt on her.

I close my eyes and rub my temples as I walk back into the bedroom. It cannot be starting already. The all-consuming jealousy.  I groan as I pull out a fresh pair of jeans and a crisp white dress shirt. I roll the sleeves up because I am not a well-dressed man. About the most I get dressed up is a basic black suit for weddings and funerals.

When I get back out into the living area of the room, I see she is already dressed. She is wearing a tight black dress, which flares at the knee and she has awesome some fuck me heels. Her brown hair is smooth and straight and begging to be wrapped around my fist as I fuck into her from behind. My cock is standing at attention but trapped by belt.

“Change.” I growl without thinking. She looks down at herself and frowns.

“You don’t like my dress?” She asks, before giving me a little twirl. The bottom flares out her knees.  Fuck. I didn’t mean to hurt her feelings. So, I move towards her.

“You look fucking beautiful, Jax. Too beautiful. I don’t want every other fucking man out there staring at you. Trust me when I say I don’t think I can handle that.”

She looks at me for a few beats, before responding to what I have said. “Okay, Miles. Give me a few minutes.”

She retreats with her bag back into the bathroom. When she comes back out, she has taken off all of her makeup and changed into dark jeans, a Nirvana t-shirt, and a pair of Vans. Somehow, it’s even worse than before. She looks so young and innocent.

I think my cock is going to explode. Fuck, when I look at her, any version of her, all I can think about is breeding her. I have never thought this before about anyone, but suddenly it is all I can think about. Her little body round with my child. Fuck.

“Better?” She asks, giving me a little twirl. Her ass looks fucking amazing in those jeans.

“No, but I’ll live. You still look beautiful.”

“Thanks. Where are we eating?” She asks.

“How do you feel about gourmet hot dogs?”

“Seeing as I have only ever had the ninety-nine-cent variety, I am intrigued.” She says laughing.

“Well, you are in for a treat. This place has a biker feel to it. I am sure we will fit right in.” I say, while not being able to stop staring at her face.

Moving closer to her, she licks her lips and I have no choice but to pull her closer to me and kiss her. As my lips land on hers there is a little spark between us.

“What was that for?” She asks.

“You are too damn pretty not to be kissed every minute of every damn day.” I say. I don’t recognize my voice. It’s gravelly and low.

She pulls my collar until my face is near hers again and then kisses me hard, before grabbing my hand and heading out the hotel to the street. Our hotel is a few blocks from the restaurant. She holds my hand the whole way and chatters about nonsense. It’s comforting in a way.

“So, do you like movies?” She asks.

“Do I like movies?” I repeat. “Who doesn’t like movies?” I ask back.

“I mean, I like some, but I usually read.”

“I do like movies. What do you like to read?”

“Mostly romance, but I will read anything.”

“I see.” We reach the restaurant and order.

I take a drink of my local beer, while she drinks a domestic bottled beer. I like that she didn’t order some kind of fancy drink. She seems down to earth and the more I talk to her, the more I like her.

I take a deep breath. “How much have you heard about my past?” I ask her.

“Not much. I know you raised your brothers and sister. That’s about it.” She says, smiling.

“That is true, but the reason behind it is that my father killed my mother then himself. I was in college, came home and did what I needed to do. My father was a jealous man and couldn't get past it.” Her hand slides across the table and rests on top of mine.

“Oh, Miles. I am sorry to hear that and cannot imagine what it must have been like for you. You were so young to have to take on so much responsibility. It’s commendable. I have met Dex and Kitty, so I know you did a good job. I am sure Chip will prove that as well.  I understand why you asked me to change. I don’t know what this is or what this could be, but it feels like something.  I do want you to know that I will never do anything to break your trust. Besides, I am a ride or die kinda lady.”

I wholeheartedly agree that this is something. “Tell me about you.” I ask.

“Oh. That’s not a fun story. I got married young, had Kennedy and then my husband died. He never loved me.” She says quickly.

“I am sure he did.” I interrupt. How could he not? I have known her a few days and I am halfway there.

“He really didn't. When we moved I found a lot of letters to another woman. He never sent them, but in them he spelled it all out for her. He was trapped plain and simple.”

The anger I feel towards a dead man for making her feel like less doesn’t sit well with me, so I push it aside.

“I am sorry. That had to be tough.” I say.

“Our past doesn’t define us.” She says, shrugging.

Her words make me feel better and I can’t help laughing. Her sweet giggle is intoxicating. I can only nod, but our food coming to the table gives me a reprieve to gather my thoughts.

We finish our dinner talking more about our likes and dislikes. The heaviness of talking about my parents is no longer weighing on my shoulders.

We walk back to the hotel in silence, hand in hand.

My cock is doing the thinking for me though. It is hard as fuck and damn if I am not going to sink inside her.

My hands are itching to ink her pale smooth skin with my brand. First things first. I gotta claim her before someone takes her ass away from me.

As if I would let that happen though. I’d fight tooth and nail to keep this woman. I have got to learn to get a handle on that.
