Delay of Game (San Francisco Strikers Book 3) by Stephanie Kay (17)

Sophia grabbed Finn’s hands and placed them on her breasts as she lifted her hips, before sinking back down on his cock. His eyes glittered under the soft light, his mouth quirked up in a small smile, and she tamped down the urge to burst out and tell him she wanted to do this forever.

It wasn’t just the sex—not that finally having him inside her body wasn’t glorious and to be celebrated—but it was everything. He was everything. Fuck, she was falling hard. That was a lie. She’d fallen ages ago.

He squeezed her breasts, his thumbnail scraping over one nipple as she rode him, pulling her from every sappy thought that ran through her head. She wouldn’t tell him that she loved him. Not yet, at least.

“Oh yes,” she moaned when his thumb found her clit again, rolling over the hard bud and sending bolts of heady desire to every corner of her body. Her heart hammered in her chest and she leaned into the friction of their bodies moving together.

“Fuck, Sophia,” he rasped out as her muscles squeezed him and she chased her orgasm. He kept his thumb on her clit and his other hand gripped her hip as she rode him. “Touch yourself,” he ordered, and she met his gaze as she cupped her breasts, her fingers mimicking his earlier touch.

Her eyes locked on his as she pinched her nipple, her nerves tight with need. She was ready to explode, but she held back, not wanting this to end. His tongue darted out, wetting his lip, as he watched her, and she resisted the urge to let go of her breasts and kiss him.

“Come for me,” he said, pressing harder on her clit, his thumb moving in tight circles, urging her to explode around him. He thrust his hips up, his grip on her waist tightening as she squeezed around his cock.

“With you,” she moaned.

“I want you to come first,” he said, the last word coming out on a groan as she tightened around him again. She tried to hold out. To wait for him to finish with her, but the pleasure was too intense, and within a breath she shattered around him, crying out his name as she came.

“Holy shit,” she gasped, collapsing to his chest, trying to catch her breath as he slowed his pace inside her, still rock hard.

His chuckle was soft as he rolled them and covered her body with his. His chest hair scraped against her over-sensitized nipples, and she sucked in a breath.

“Your turn,” she whispered against his throat before she nipped him, then bathed the spot with her tongue.

He groaned, the sound vibrating through her body, centering on where they were joined. His hips rocked against her, driving his cock to the hilt, and she sank her hands into his hair, the soft strands tickling her palms.

He pressed a hard kiss to her lips and rolled his hips. She still wanted him. Wanted another orgasm at his hands, his body, whatever he would give her.

He nibbled on her lower lip, then pressed biting kisses along her jaw, behind her ear. “You are so fucking sexy when you come,” he whispered into her ear, and she shuddered beneath him.

“Now I want to watch you come,” she said, her boldness still a shock, but he brought it out in her and she loved every minute of it.

“So bossy,” he teased, kissing her neck as he moved over her, his cock plunging in and out of her body.

She wrapped her legs around his hips, her heels digging into his glorious ass. Her thighs tightened, shortening his thrusts, and he groaned.

She trailed one hand down his spine, and his muscles bunched under her touch, as he continued to thrust, never forgetting to rock his hips to give her clit the most friction. Another orgasm twisted tight in her belly and she gasped, her hand tightening in his hair, her nails scraping against his scalp.

“Fuck, I’m so close,” he rasped, his thrusts speeding him. “And you’re coming with me again.”

She could only moan in agreement, her orgasm continuing to build, her muscles clenching around his cock. And then with a groan, her name on his lips, he came, with her orgasm chasing right behind him.

He collapsed against her chest, his face nuzzled into the bend of her shoulder, his eyelashes tickling her neck as they caught their breath. She squeezed her inner muscles, and he groaned.

“Give me a few minutes,” he muttered, and she laughed lightly.

“Really?”

“Probably. But we should sleep. I think you sapped all my strength.” He lifted his head and cupped her jaw. She would never be able to adequately describe the look in his eyes, but it both thrilled and scared the hell out of her—and it took her breath away.

She pulled him down and sealed her lips with his. She wasn’t ready to confess her feelings to him, but she’d pour every emotion she had into that kiss. He groaned against her mouth, his tongue darting out to taste her, and she gripped his hair, holding him close, wanting to be consumed by him.

He broke the kiss and pulled free. “Don’t move,” he said, slipping from her body. She sighed at the loss but watched him roll from the bed and dispose of the condom. After they both cleaned up, she slipped back under the covers with him and he tucked her close, her head on his shoulder. She sank into his warmth and closed her eyes when he lightly kissed her forehead. She slipped into sleep, a full smile on her face. She couldn’t wait to do that again.

Sophia woke to Finn trailing his hand down her arm. The sun was much brighter than it had been when she’d drifted off to sleep.

She bolted up. She’d only meant to nap, but hours had passed. “Shit, what time is it?”

“Close to noon, maybe,” he muttered at her side, his fingers still moving over her rapidly awakening skin. She fought back a shudder as the memories of what they’d done in this bed only hours before flooded through her brain.

“I have to be at work in three hours,” she said, just as her phone rang from another room. She didn’t want to answer it. She wanted to stay right where she was, wrapped in Finn’s arms.

“You work too much,” he said, pulling her back into his chest and pressing a kiss to her head.

“Please don’t,” she started.

He shifted her to face him, and her phone buzzed again. She tried not to think about the number of messages she might have since her mother had mentioned stopping by to check on her in the morning. At least she’d texted Claire last night about staying at Finn’s. She bit back the heat in her cheeks, remembering Claire’s encouraging responses—plural. Hopefully her mother hadn’t shown up at her apartment. But she trusted Claire not to out her.

“You work too much, and I know you don’t want to talk about it now…”

“No, I don’t. I need to grab my phone,” she said, escaping from the bed and darting out of the room before he could grab her.

She pulled her phone from her bag on the couch, and Bash raised his head from his bed in the corner, his tail starting to wag as he stretched.

“Keep sleeping, Bash,” she whispered, swiping on her phone.

Twenty texts and a handful of missed calls. A few from Tony. Fuck. Another thing she didn’t want to think about today—or ever. She skimmed through the rest of the texts, biting back her laugh at all five of Claire’s.

Claire: How’s Thor’s hammer?

“Sophia, I will come get you if your ass isn’t back in here in ten seconds,” Finn called out, his voice grumbly and filled with promise. She couldn’t stop the shiver that rolled through her.

“You’re not the boss of me,” she called out, taunting him.

He was in the living room before she could take another breath, and she let out a startled squeak when he swept her into his arms. Fuck. That was ridiculously hot.

“We’ll see about that,” he said, carrying her back down the hall.

“But I’m hungry,” she said. Her stomach rumbled as soon as the words were out of her mouth.

He laughed. “Well, I can’t starve you. You’ll need your stamina for later.”

“I really should get home. And I’m supposed to work tonight.”

“You should call out and spend the day with me.”

“I think I will,” she said.

He halted in his tracks. “Really?” The happiness in his expression chased away every doubt she had, and calling in sick on a Sunday had never felt better.

“Well look who’s back,” Claire said, a grin splitting her face, when Sophia walked through the door hours later. “Where are the leftovers and why are you home so early?” she asked, her grin turning into a pout.

Her day with Finn had been perfect, and almost as amazing as her early morning hours with him had been. Heat rushed to her cheeks thinking about it and how he’d left her gasping on the kitchen table after she’d called out of work. She’d told her parents that she still had a headache, and Finn was determined to cure her with orgasms—fake headache or not.

“I called out.”

Claire paused, a bottle of water halfway to her mouth. “I’m sorry, you what? Are you feeling okay?” she asked, coming over and putting her hand on Sophia’s forehead.

“I’m fine. Just had a rough night last night.”

“And you spent the night at Finn’s. I’m so proud of you,” Claire said.

Sophia hadn’t told Claire about Tony showing up. She wasn’t going to have that conversation over text where she couldn’t keep Claire from running to the restaurant and giving Tony a piece of her mind, and probably a taste of her fist.

“Was it amazing? Was it everything you hoped for, and more?” she asked, wiggling her brow.

“He’s perfection, and that’s all I’m going to say about that.”

“You’re no fun. I tell you about my dates.”

“I know. I can’t describe how perfect it was, and I’m taking a huge risk with my job, but I can’t stay away from him. I don’t want to stay away from him.”

“You’ll figure it out. I’m so happy you finally put your fears aside. It was going to happen, but how? I mean, I know how, but I had no idea you had plans with him last night.”

“There’s something else I have to tell you, but can we sit? I’m exhausted.”

“I bet you are,” Claire said with a smirk as they headed to the couch.

“Uh, not like that. I mean, yes, I’m exhausted from last night, but something happened at the restaurant, and that’s why I went to Finn’s last night. You were out, and I didn’t want to be alone, and…” She trailed off as Claire grabbed her hand, concern replacing all humor that moments ago had been in her best friend’s eyes.

“What happened? Who am I killing?”

Sophia’s laugh was watery. “Finn said the same thing.”

“Of course he did. That man is half in love with you already, but we can talk about that later.”

Was he? She was more than halfway in love with him. She pushed that thought aside. She could dwell on what that meant later.

“Now, tell me what happened? Your family is making you work more nights? Because that’s a firm no.”

Sophia took a deep breath. “Tony showed up at the restaurant.”

Claire recoiled. “Tony? As in, I-still-want-to-murder-him Tony? And I bet there’d be a line trying to beat me to it. I thought he was in New York.”

“He just walked into the restaurant last night like it hadn’t been four years. My parents were so excited to see him, and I played nice before finally escaping to the office, and then he confronted me.”

“Are you fucking kidding me?” Pure rage filled Claire’s eyes. “Did you finally tell your parents what happened?”

Sophia dropped her head. “No. I just couldn’t. They were so happy. And—and, I know I need to tell them, just not there, in the middle of the restaurant.” Hell, she hated how weak she sounded, and she refused to let him reduce her to that, but seeing him again had flipped a switch inside of her that she’d thought she’d obliterated when she’d finally left him four years ago.

“I can’t imagine how difficult it will be, but you have to tell them. These secrets have eaten at you for too long. And I’ll be right there with you. I bet Finn would, too,” Claire said, squeezing Sophia’s hand.

“He said the same. Tony caught me in the office, and I told him I was going to tell my family, and then he reminded me of those stupid pictures he took of me. And he claimed there was a video, but I don’t believe him. Not that I’d put anything past him, but why would he just claim that now and not years ago when he held those pictures over my head?”

She didn’t miss Claire’s indrawn breath, but she had to get it all out.

“I had to get out of there after that. I told my mom I had a headache, and I didn’t want to come home and be alone.”

“You should’ve called me.”

“I know, but you were out on a date.”

“Who gives a shit about my date. You call me. I’m your best friend, and I was there when you walked away the first time. I will always be there if you need me,” Claire said, her tone stern.

“I should’ve called you, but instead I went over to Finn’s. He’d texted about getting a drink, so I showed up—I must’ve looked a fright—but he settled me on the couch with Bash and I spilled everything. Well, not everything. I didn’t tell him about the baby. I just—I just couldn’t. Not yet. Maybe not ever. I hate even thinking about not being able to protect that little life from Tony.” She bit the inside of her cheek to hold back the tears, hating how it ate at her.

“I’m not going to tell you that you have to tell Finn about that. That is your choice, if you ever feel ready. But how dare Tony threaten you again. Want me to sneak into his house? I’m really good with computers. Maybe I can find out if there really is a video. He better be fucking bluffing, and if he’s not, we will figure something out. What else did he want? And how did Finn take it?”

“I don’t know. I bolted and didn’t look back. And Finn was amazing. He comforted me and listened. He also threatened Tony, but I told him it wasn’t worth it, so he just held me while we watched a movie instead.” She paused, remembering his soft kisses on her brow that had led to more passion than she’d ever experienced, when she’d woken him up yesterday morning.

“And then you snuggled and finally had your way with him?”

Sophia laughed. “No. I fell asleep on him while we were watching the movie, and woke up in bed with him the next morning.”

“Oh man, too drunk to remember sleeping with him?”

“Claire,” she drew out. “No. We only slept. Our clothes were still on when I woke up. Even my bra. So uncomfortable.”

“You woke up and then had your way with him.”

She couldn’t stop the heat rushing to her cheeks as she thought about rubbing against him. Hell, she wanted him again—now.

“Look at your face. You totally did. I’m so damn proud of you,” Claire said, yanking Sophia into a hug. “You deserve all the happiness in the world, and Finn is perfect for you.”

“We were both fully awake before anything happened, I promise. And I know I should stay away from him, but I don’t want to. I might totally screw up my job.”

“No. You’ve been through hell in the relationship department, and you’ve dated some awful, and more recently, boring men, but Finn is different. Don’t throw that away.”

“I’m not going to,” Sophia said, determination in her voice.

No. She was not going to throw him away. She was done second guessing herself and putting her happiness aside.

Now she just had to do that in all aspects of her life.
