Delay of Game (San Francisco Strikers Book 3) by Stephanie Kay (21)

“I need to be inside you,” Finn groaned, pulling free of her mouth.

“You were,” she said, trailing her tongue along the head, smiling as a shudder rolled through his body. She loved the power she had over him. It equally matched the power he held over her, and it warmed every inch of her body.

She yanked her shirt off, and he helped her shimmy out of the rest of her clothes until she was bare before him. He bounced, toeing off his shoes and kicking away his pants and boxer briefs, before he reached down and pulled off his socks.

“Much better,” he said, nudging her shoulder with his hand, urging her to lay back as he covered her body with his, the heat of him burning into her as her heart raced.

She sank her hand into his hair, gripping his scalp. He groaned under her touch when she lifted her hips, rocking against his hard cock.

And then there was a scratch at the door, followed by a whimper that hadn’t come from either of them.

“Ignore him,” Finn grumbled.

“Guess he’s done with his peen,” she said, unable to resist the joke.

“Stop killing the mood,” he teased back, before he dropped a hard kiss to her lips, wiping away any thoughts she had, aside from him on top of her, their bodies pressed together, and the absolute bliss of him kissing her.

Her tongue darted out, tangling with his, her fingers scraping along his scalp, and she swallowed his groan.

He pulled back and pressed nipping kisses along her jaw and collarbone before he licked around her nipple, taking her aching breast into his mouth and sucking. Her back arched off the bed and she held him close as he tormented one nipple with his tongue and the other with his fingers, pinching the pebbled peak.

He continued to kiss down her body, his tongue swiping across her belly, tracing her curves. He blew a hot breath on her heated core, and her muscles clenched when he kissed just above her clit.

Her gasp filled the quiet room when his tongue darted out, teasing her clit. His hands gripped her hips, holding her steady as she writhed on the bed, one hand bunched in the sheets, while the other was firmly locked in his hair.

“Oh Finn,” she moaned when he traced languid circles over her clit with his tongue, like he had nothing better to do than to drive her insane and torture her slowly. She rocked her hips up, trying to encourage him to hurry the hell up. Her orgasm just out of reach as he took her to the edge and backed off time and again, keeping her from the satisfaction she craved.

Then he sank a finger inside of her, her muscles tightening around him and he groaned, the muffled sound vibrating against her clit.

“So close,” she moaned, lifting her ass off the bed. A second finger joined the first, and his tongue sped up against her clit.

And then she was flying, shouting her release as her body shook against his, her fingers gripping the sheet, while she tried to catch her breath.

“Holy shit,” she panted, lifting her head and spotting his grin before he ducked back down to kiss along her trembling flesh, moving up her body until he covered her completely.

His hair was a mess from her hands, and his cheeks were pink, his blue eyes with dark pupils fully blown as he watched her.

He dropped his head, sealing her lips in a kiss, and she tasted herself on his tongue. She wanted more of everything he had to give her.

His cock pressed against her, brushing against her clit, and sending sparks low in her belly. She ran her hands down his spine and grabbed his ass, so he was forced to grind against her.

She swallowed his groan and squeezed his delectable, perfect ass.

“Fuck, Sophia,” he bit out, rocking against her.

“I need you inside me now,” she said, her voice husky with desire. She stretched out her arm and yanked the nightstand drawer open, quickly grabbing a condom. He snagged it from her hands and sat back, rolling the condom down his length.

He shifted on top of her and slid inside with one perfect stroke. They both groaned as he bottomed out, their pelvises pressed together. He rocked against her, the friction perfection against her clit, and she curled her legs around his hips, holding him close, her hands trailing up his chest.

She tweaked his nipples, watching his abs clench with each thrust of his hips. Each slow thrust geared to drive both of them insane. She tightened her thighs around him, and as he moved in and out of her body, he rocked against her clit.

Heat spiraled low in her belly, narrowing down as she moved with him, searching for release, but not wanting to rush the intense pleasure coursing through her.

He leaned over her and sealed his lips to hers, his tongue plunging into her mouth as his cock plunged into her body, a perfect rhythm that caused her heart to race and her hands to grasp his shoulders for the ride.

He deepened the kiss and reached up with one hand to cup her face like she was the most treasured thing he’d ever had in his hands. She felt cherished as he worshiped her body, moving with her. Everything disappeared as they came together, a mixture of kisses and moans and whispered pleas.

She scraped her fingers down his spine and over his broad shoulders, and he shuddered beneath her touch.

He broke the kiss. “Sophia.” It was harsh and full of need, his head arching back as his hips picked up speed. He panted her name again, meeting her gaze, then sat up on his knees, pulling her with him, her legs still linked around him.

He trailed his thumb over her lips, his eyes black, the thin ring of blue almost gone as she parted her lips. Licking his thumb, he groaned.

He skated his hand down her body, trailing over her sensitive nipples, over her belly, until he reached her clit, pressing down, his hand fanned over her stomach, as he pumped his hips. He rubbed his thumb against her clit in small circles and she sucked in a breath.

“I’m so close, Sophia, but ladies first,” he panted, shooting her a grin while he tormented her, drawing out every gasp of breath she had.

He gripped her hip, his fingers digging into her flesh, and she’d welcome the bruises he left behind.

She locked her eyes with his, meeting every thrust of his hips against her, straining for breath as his thumb pressed down on her clit.

“Yes, oh God, yes,” she cried out, her hand falling back to the bed as she held herself up. Not that she needed to since his grip on her kept her from collapsing onto the bed. Desire boiled within, and she held onto his shoulder with her other hand. His muscles bunched and rolled under her touch, his breathing as labored as hers.

He rolled his thumb over her clit, and her body tightened, her desire narrowing down and then she exploded, her breath short, her body shuddering as she came.

He squeezed her hip, his gaze never leaving hers as he continued to thrust into her. Her inner muscles clenched around his cock, and he came, with her name on his lips.

He wrapped his arms around her body, holding her flush against him, as their intermingled breaths raced. She bit back her moan when her sensitive nipples brushed against his chest. The stimulation was too much, but she couldn’t force herself to pull back.

Wrapped up in his embrace was the only place she wanted to be.

He kissed her forehead softly, and she felt him smile against her.

“You are amazing and wonderful and beautiful, and I can’t believe I can finally tell you I love you,” he said, and her heart picked up its pace.

“Who knew grumpy Finn was a closet romantic?” she teased, staring into his eyes. Her body flushed with warmth that had nothing to do with making love and everything to do with how he looked at her. How he cared for her like no one ever had.

“Don’t tell anyone,” he said, not denying her claim.

“It’s our little secret,” she whispered against his lips. And when he pulled free from her body and went to clean up, she wished it was the only secret they had between them, but she refused to ruin this moment by thinking about anyone but him and what they’d just shared.

There was time for that reality later—much later.

Finn slipped back under the sheets, waiting for Sophia to return from cleaning up. Bash hadn’t waited a second after the door had opened and had bolted right for the bed. He was currently butting his head against Finn’s arm.

“At least you gave us some space,” Finn said, ruffling the dog’s head.

“Is there room for me?” Sophia asked, standing at the door, her skin still flushed. He fought back the urge to grab her and toss her on the bed again for round two.

“I guess,” he said, grinning and pulling back the sheet.

She snagged one of his shirts on her way, pulling it over her head, and he groaned in disappointment.

“From this point on, I’m banning clothes in the bedroom,” he teased, and she sank onto the mattress next to him. He relieved her of his shirt in seconds, and tucked her close, her warm skin pressed to his, her curves against his hard lines.

Her hands fell on his chest, and he groaned as she scraped her nails down the center, his muscles clenching under her touch.

“I think I can be on board with that,” she said, before she gasped. “Bash, not the ear.”

Finn laughed when Bash continued to lick Sophia’s face. “It’s not his fault you’re delectable.”

“You’re not so bad yourself,” she said, kissing his jaw.

Bash curled up at the bottom of the bed, gave a huge puppy sigh, and drifted off to sleep.

“See, he just wanted some attention and now he’s out,” she said, snuggling deeper into his arms.

He breathed his own sigh of happiness. They were finally where he wanted to be.

“We need to go out on our first official date,” he said. “We kind of did things backwards.”

She laughed. “Yeah, we did.”

“I’m thinking dinner and ice skating. I’m pretty good on my feet thanks to my awesome PT.”

“Not sure that’s a good idea,” she said, and he instantly regretted bringing up her job—well, her former job.

“Sorry. I shouldn’t have mentioned that so soon.” He shifted so she was looking right at him. “We’re going to figure something out. And your next job is going to be even better.”

She smiled softly. “I hope so. I really liked working for Dr. Anders.”

He hated the sadness in her eyes, hated himself for causing her to get fired.

“I wish I could do something to fix what happened and get you your job back, but I can’t.”

She grabbed his wrist. “I know that. It’s just frustrating because I was good at my job, but I don’t regret falling for you, at all.”

He leaned in, kissing her softly, and she sank into him as he deepened the kiss. He rolled her under him, wanting to sink inside her again. To wipe away her sadness by giving her everything he could.

“Dammit Bash, my foot is not a chew toy,” he muttered out as Bash bit down on the comforter, trying to get to Finn’s feet moving under the sheets.

Sophia’s body shook with laughter. “He just wants to play, and you let him in here.”

Finn rolled off her body with a groan, pulling the bedding up tight and glaring at his dog. Bash tilted his head, and Finn swore the pup was grinning at him. “Cockblock,” he said, and Sophia laughed.

“About this date,” she started, patting the space beside her to encourage Bash to cuddle next to her. The punk ambled up the bed and dropped down next to her, his head on her belly, and Finn glared again.

“She’s mine,” he grumbled.

Sophia reached out to pat his hair like she did with Bash. “Poor jealous baby,” she teased.

“Not funny,” he said, reaching under the covers and trailing his thumb over her nipple, relishing in her gasp as she squirmed under his touch.

“The date,” she started, her voice strained as he pinched the hardened peak. “And stop it. Not in front of the puppy.” She shifted out of his grasp.

“Yes. Dinner and skating. I know you don’t skate, so really it’s an excuse to keep you in my arms while I teach you,” he said, running his hand down her spine, and relishing in the shiver that rolled under his fingers. He couldn’t stop touching her. “I still can’t believe you can’t skate.”

“I just like to watch other people on the ice,” she said, pressing a kiss to his collarbone.

“You’ll love it.”

“Maybe some day this week we could go. It’s not like I have anything to do during the day anymore,” she said.

He placed his thumb under her jaw, forcing her to meet his gaze. “Stop. You are going to find something or go back to school. Your PT days are definitely not over. And I’ll help any way I can, but your on-ice lessons will have to wait, unless you want to learn in Calgary.”

“What?”

“I’m heading home tomorrow for a few days.” And he was already dreading it, but he was meeting Brandon for lunch in two days and he’d promised to cook for Molly at least once while he was home. She’d tried to guilt him into every day, but he’d had to draw the line.

He’d probably end up making her dinner every chance he got. Who was he kidding?

“Is everything okay? With your family? Molly and Grace?” she asked, her eyes filled with concern.

“Don’t worry. They are fine. At least, for the most part. My father came back a few months ago and,” he paused, pushing down his anger, “well, we don’t have the best, or much, of a relationship with him.”

“You don’t really talk about him. I just assumed he wasn’t in the picture, but you also never said your parents were divorced.”

“That’s because they aren’t, much to our frustration. I hate talking about him, but you are a part of my life, and you should know everything. He was in and out of our lives for as long as I can remember.”

“I’m sorry, Finn,” she said, grabbing his hand. Her thumb running over his knuckles was soothing.

“It sucks, but it’s been peaceful for the last four years. He’d never even met Molly.”

“Really?”

Finn grimaced. “Yes. When we were kids, he would skip out, but he would always come back eventually, and my mother takes him back every time. Grace and I have tried to talk to her—reason with her—over the years, but it never changes. She’s somehow blind to his faults, which makes no sense to us.”

“Why are you going home if this has happened before?”

He took a deep breath, hating what he’d done and that he had no choice but to tell his mother the truth.

“Right before Grace had Molly, I had just signed my large contract and I wanted him gone. I wanted Molly to grow up without his toxic presence and to see her grandmother happy and free. Yes, Mom is sad and angry when he would bail, but after a while she would be happy, almost light. I wanted that. So, I paid him off.”

“He took money from his own son to disappear? What an asshole,” she said, her voice clear with disgust.

“Yep. And it was worth every penny. But now he’s back and he wants more.”

“You can’t give it to him. He’ll keep coming back.”

“I know. Now I have to tell my mother the truth and hope that she kicks him out for good. I mean, why would she want anything to do with him after he treated her that way? After he left because I paid him to go? I don’t understand how she looks past all his flaws and stays.”

He didn’t miss Sophia’s flinch.

“Hey, I’m sorry,” he said, knowing she was thinking about her asshole ex.

“No. I get it. I ask myself that all the time.”

“You were young and…” he trailed off.

“No. Don’t make excuses for me or why I stayed when he hurt me. I hate how weak I was,” she said, tears in her eyes. He wanted to wipe every tear away and murder her ex.

“Listen to me. You left. You’re strong as hell. You picked up your life, kicked him to the curb, and pursued a career that you love.”

“A career that he helped me lose.”

“No. That was one job. A blip on your resume that won’t matter in a few years. You are amazing and strong and the woman I’m going to love for as long as you’ll let me.”

“It could be a while,” she said, her cheeks flushed as he pulled her tight.

“It better be,” he said, brushing his lips across hers.

“Do you want me to come to Calgary with you? I’m good at emotional support. And I have loads of free time.”

He ran his thumb across her knuckles, and she smiled, her fingers grazing over his palm. “As much as I would love to introduce you to my mom and have you with me, it might be a little awkward for her to meet you for the first time in this situation.” He wanted her with him, but it wasn’t going to be a normal meet the family weekend.

“I get it, but if you need me, I’ll be there.”

“One of our early away games is in Calgary, so that would be the perfect time to come up. My mom’s going to love you, and hopefully she’ll still be speaking to me.”

“She will. She loves you, Finn. And I sound like a total hypocrite because I need to talk to my family about my own issues, but it will be good to have everything out in the open.”

“You’re going to get there. I’m so happy that we have no more secrets between us.”

She dropped his gaze, looking down at their interlocked hands. “Yes, and now I have to tell them about losing my job. I’m so not looking forward to that.”

“If you wait, we can tell them together. Let them yell at me about getting you into this situation. Maybe I’ll stand on a table and tell everyone how much I love you.”

“You wouldn’t dare,” she said.

He grinned. “I wouldn’t?”

He’d tell anyone who asked, and after everything was on the table—literally—he’d be free of all of his secrets.
