Alpha's Second Chance (Shifter Nation: Werebears Of The Everglades) by Meg Ripley (24)

Ramon

She’s letting me drive her car? I had my fingers curled around the steering wheel and I still couldn’t believe it. This chica is amazing!

I couldn’t wait to brag to Trent about it as we took off toward Jordan’s. We got there in two minutes flat; I was both disappointed and proud.

“Seems like you could show me a thing or two about how to handle a car like this,” Min smirked. She seemed to have enjoyed the ride, even though it had been a quick one.

“Well, after the show you put on last night, Mario Andretti, I tried to deliver,” I wiggled my eyebrows at her and she giggled.

She has to be the cutest and sexiest thing on Earth.

We got out of the car and headed into Jordan’s, and as we ascended the front steps, I noticed it looked exactly the same as it did last year with its red counter stools and wooden booths. I requested a booth for us and we were seated immediately. Mugs were placed in front of us featuring the Jordan’s logo and the waitress returned with a fresh pot, pouring us each a cup.

“Blueberry blend?” I asked.

“As always,” the waitress smiled. Her name tag read ‘Georgina.’

“Oh, may I have an Old Soaker too, please?” I asked before she could walk away.

“Sure thing, hun!”

“What’s an Old Soaker?” Min asked, searching the menu for it.

“It’s a blueberry soda you can only get here in Bar Harbor. You need to try it.”

“Sounds yummy. In fact, so does everything on this menu.”

“Well, how about you order whatever you want, and we’ll split the plates half way?”

“That sounds perfect! But I hope you’re hungry because I want to try it all—and I really love blueberries.”

I laughed. Too bad she didn’t know I was a shifter, because we can have one hell of an appetite. The waitress returned to the table, setting the blueberry soda down before me.

“So, what can I get for you guys?”

“We’re going to have whatever she says we’re having,” I smiled, nodding in Min’s direction as I put down my menu.

“We will have a short stack of blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup, an order of extra-crispy home fries, two eggs sunny side up, a side of bacon, a blueberry Belgium waffle with vanilla whipped cream, a blueberry cinnamon-granola yogurt parfait, and a blueberry streusel muffin, please,” Min finished and smiled up at the waitress who was scribbling furiously.

“Will that be all?”

“Yes ma’am. Thank you,” Min said as the waitress took our menus and walked off to place our order.

“Damn girl, you’re going to put me in a blueberry coma after this,” I laughed.

“I told you to prepare yourself.”

“Okay, ready to try this?” I asked, passing her the blueberry soda. The waitress had already uncapped it for us and Min eagerly took a swig.

God, that’s delicious! I’ll have to bring a whole case of those back with me.”

I tried to take a sip myself, but I found the fizzy drink difficult to swallow.

That’s odd. I’ve never had a problem drinking soda before… I forced the beverage down my throat and tried to hide my discomfort. Maybe I’m getting a sore throat or something…

We idly chatted until our food came out slowly, plate by plate. We were both glad that it didn’t come out all at once; it would have been so overwhelming, and to be honest, I wasn’t sure it would all fit on the table. Georgina brought the muffin and parfait out first and Min immediately grabbed the muffin.

“I call the top half!”

“That’s not how these things work,” I chuckled. “You’re supposed to cut it in half.”

“I am cutting it in half,” she said, ripping the top off the muffin and putting it on her plate. “You never said which top it had to be.”

I groaned. She was right, living up to that clever part of her name. And before I could get to the parfait, she grabbed that too.

“Aw, come on; not the parfait, too…”

“Well, a parfait isn’t a parfait without the yogurt, so I’ll play fair,” she smiled, and I watched her divide it down the middle and slide it across the table toward me.

The pancakes and waffle came out next, the home fries and eggs coming out shortly after. We each ate half the waffle, one pancake and one egg. I found the pancakes and waffles extremely hard to get down, but I forced myself through it, and I picked at the home fries in between.

I groaned, sitting back and holding my stomach. “Dios mio, I’m so full.”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure I overdid it,” she breathed, doing the same. “Do you have anything going on today?”

I’m supposed to meet up with Knox to review the autopsy findings, but I’m sure he won’t mind if I come by later after telling him I was with a girl.

“No, not really. How about you?” She paused for a moment and then shook her head.

“Want to come back to my place and take a nap? Because I need one after this meal,” she laughed. “And then maybe we can relax in the jacuzzi afterwards?”

“That sounds perfect,” I smiled. I could definitely go for a nap after eating all those carbs.

I’ll have Sophia check my throat when I get back to the park…
