CHAPTER TEN

The sun streamed into the room as I slowly opened my eyes. I stood up to close the curtains and block out the light but I found it difficult to stand from the bed. My head was aching and I just had to lie back on the bed. I had been crying since yesterday and the repercussion was the headache I had now. Memories from yesterday came flooding back and it took all I had not to start another round of crying. I felt so hurt and betrayed.

“Why didn’t Chris tell me anything? Janie was probably correct. He just wanted to use me for his pleasure and dump me. I can’t believe I was that stupid and blind not to have seen it,” I thought to myself as I leaned my back against my bed.

Yesterday had been a nightmare I wished had never happened but looking back at it now, maybe my nightmare had not started yesterday but rather the day I had met Chris. My mind flashed back to yesterday at the office where I had been seated at my desk, filled with so much happiness before Janie turned my world upside down.

“Can I check something on your phone?” she asked.

“What is that?” I asked.

    “The pictures of the shoes I saved on your phone,” she replied.

I handed over the phone to her and ten minutes later, she reentered the office and started showing me all the pictures of Chris and me on my phone. Apparently, she must have seen the pictures while she was scrolling and looking for the shoes.

“How do you know Christopher Graham?” she asked.

Embarrassed that I had to finally tell them about Chris, I decided to open up and tell the truth. I was about to explain when another thought hit me. How did Janie know Chris? Because it was quite obvious she did, judging by the way she had used his full name.

    “He is my boyfriend, but how do you know him?” I asked as I stared straight at her.

“Everybody knows him. He is one of the youngest billionaires in the city. And really, did you just call him your boyfriend? I’m sorry to burst your bubble, girl, but it’s possible you are just one of the girls he keeps around for pleasure’s sake,” she said without any hint of remorse in her voice.

She kept talking about how naive I must have been to think I was in a relationship with Christopher Graham. Thankfully, Courtney asked her to leave our office and stop making me feel bad. I wasn’t myself for the rest of the day and I just had to inform Courtney that I won’t be around today. She understood like she always did, although she advised me to call Chris and confront him about the issue.

But I was just too hurt to listen to her. He had lied to me before, so what made me think he would tell the truth this time around? I would rather call it off instead of getting hurt more, and that was exactly what I had done when I sent a text this morning. It would be hard getting over him, but I would.

I was contemplating all these things when I heard a knock on my front door. I wondered who it could be. It was possibly my neighbors, checking in on me to see why I hadn’t gone to work today. I opened the door and was surprised to see Chris standing there.

“What do you want? Haven’t you done enough?” I asked angrily as I made to shut the door.

“Please just give me a few minutes to explain and after that you can chase me away,” he replied.

“Why didn’t you tell me the truth? Why didn’t you tell me you were a hundred times worth my estimate of you? Were you scared I was just after your money so you decided to use me, just like all the rest?” I shouted.

    “Please, let’s go into the house to avoid peeping toms,” he said. I reluctantly agreed to this and let him in. He told me that he had earlier stopped by at the office before coming over here. I explained to him what had happened, including everything Janie had said.

“I would never do that to you, Becca. I never meant to just use you and dump you. You mean so much to me. I’m sorry if I lied about my net worth but I was just scared you might leave me if you found out too soon.” He went on to explain that he had even discussed it with Larry and that it hadn’t been his intention to hurt me.

I closed my eyes and leaned back against the sofa when he was done with all his explanations. It actually sounded quite logical. I didn’t know why I had even listened to Janie in the first place. Except for the issue of his net worth and it’s appurtenances, Chris had never lied to me before, and I understood his reason from keeping the truth from me.

“But it really does hurt, you know,” I said when I finally opened my eyes and looked at him.

“Yeah, I know, and I’m super sorry. It’ll never happen again,” he replied as he moved towards me and kissed the tears from my eyes. I held onto him tightly and buried my face in his shirt. He lifted my chin up and slowly kissed me on the lips.

“I would never do anything to hurt you Becca. You’re my world,” he said to me.

“Am I? Do you really mean that?” I stared into his eyes. His eyes were cloudy. I could see flames of desire burn in them. Did he really mean it?

“Yes. I am sorry I kept that part of me away from you. You mean so much to me.” He pressed a light kiss on my forehead.

“Show me.” Tears of joy welled up in my eyes. I felt so much love for this man. He was my Prince Charming, a perfect gentleman. I wanted to be sure he was the right man for me.

“Of course. I’d do anything to please you.” He caressed my lips with his fingers and then his hands moved to my clothes. My body had gotten used to his lovely touch. Only his touch could make me feel this way; only his touch could bring me so much pleasure.

“My love,” he groaned, and buried his lips inside my bra.

“You should focus on undressing your love.” I winked.

A smile lit his face as he resumed undressing me. I also helped him out of his clothes. I couldn’t wait to feel his hands all over my body.

“Beautiful woman.” He loosened the tiny ribbon that held my red curls in their place.

He ran his fingers through my hair gently, tiny sparks of pleasure coursing through my body with that single action; there was just something about his hands. It seemed they were meant only for my body.

“From the first day I set my eyes on you, I knew you were special,” he murmured, and placed a soft kiss on my mane.

“Really?” I bit his ear lightly.

“You are a diamond. You’re rare, Becca.” He pressed another kiss on my temple.

“Thank you, you are a wonderful man too.” I licked his ears.

“I would never use you or dump you; you’re the only woman in my world. I swear it.” He pressed yet another kiss on my cheeks.

I was speechless. He seemed to carry out an adoration of my body with soft sweet kissed.

“Don’t you believe that? Look at me, Becca. Stare into my eyes. You’ll see the truth; I am not lying.” He prodded my shoulders forward so I could look into his eyes.

I swallowed hard and steadied my gaze. There was this peace and calm I felt when I looked at him; his eyes were another world. I saw desire in that world; I saw simplicity, honesty, and loyalty, and it seemed I belonged there.

“Do you believe me now?” he asked.

“I believe you more than ever.” A tear escaped my eyes and traveled down my face.

“Don’t cry, honey. I know what you feel. I feel it too. We’re one.” He lifted my face and wiped the tear that fell on my cheeks. “I promise to always stand by your side.” His voice was husky with emotion as he spoke.

I was about to say something in return when he hushed me like one who was about to wake a baby.

“Let me show you how much you mean to me.” He raised me up till we were both standing, facing each other.

Slowly, he tickled my hair once more, then enveloped my mouth in his; this kiss was deliberately slow. He led the pace, and I didn’t disturb him.

I could feel the hotness of his breath on my face as he kissed me; my hands rubbed his back and traveled down the swell of his hard and firm buttocks. I gave them a squeeze.

“I like that,” he groaned. His hands prodded me closer to him, so I could feel his erection. It was so big, its tip touched my belly, and I felt like pushing it inside of me but I controlled myself.

His hands were wild as he caressed and fondled by breasts.

“Part your legs, honey,” he whispered as he nibbled my ears. I obeyed.

“Good girl.” He moved his lips from my ears to my breasts. I moaned as he began to chew at my nipple, a mixture of pain and pleasure emanating from there.

His free hand roamed from my stomach to the parting of my thighs; then he dipped his fingers into me, to the point where I was already wet and wanting; wet and hot with desire; the place where I throbbed for him.

“Why are you stopping?” I was desperate for him.

“I have a meeting with some clients. I have to go, Becca; we’ll do this some other time,” he replied. I thought I had not heard well. I quickly rushed to the door and made sure it was safely locked.

“Please stay with me, Chris. Make love to me.” Even as I spoke, I noticed a wicked glimmer in his eyes. Was he doing this on purpose?

“Do you really want me to stay?” he grinned.

“Why do you want to torture me?” It seemed he was joking.

“I got you! I was only playing.” He swept me off my feet into his arms and led me to the sofa.

“I want you to kneel here, back me,” he instructed. I fell on my knees and placed the rest of my body against the sofa while my back faced him.

He kneaded my shoulders for a while, then ran a finger from the base of my neck to the crevice where all pleasure lay. His fingers found my clit once again and they began to work on it.

“Baby …” I cried out his name and wriggled my waist in ecstasy.

“I’ll make you feel all right.” He quickly replaced them with his shaft and begun to pummel into me.

    “Is this what I think it is?” I asked as I tried to sit up straight on the couch.

“Yes, it is, Becca. I have loved you almost since the first day I set my eyes on you and I can see no reason why I should postpone anymore. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, every single waking moment, and I want you to be the mother of my children,” Chris said as he continued to stare me straight in the eyes.

    I was shocked and my tongue felt as though it was locked for several minutes. I tried to compose myself but I was just too overjoyed to keep calm. I couldn’t stop the tears as they flowed down my cheek.

“I love you too, Christopher, and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” I said as tears still continued streaming down my face.

    “Rebecca, will you be my wife?” asked Chris as he reached out to wipe my tears.

“Yes, I will,” I said as I nodded my head vigorously.

Chris slipped the ring onto my finger and I held onto him tightly as tears still continued streaming down my eyes. I couldn’t believe this was actually happening.

“This is the ring I was staring at through the window of that jewelry store when I laughed and said my salary and yours combined together couldn’t get the ring?” I asked as the reality slowly started to dawn on me.

He could afford anything, and he didn’t have to go bankrupt to get me diamond engagement ring. It would take a lot of getting used to, but I was sure I would still treat him normally.

    “Yes, it’s the one and same ring. Do you like it?” asked Chris.

“Are you joking? You know I love it,” I replied, and Chris smiled.

I was glad I would get to spend forever with the man I loved most in this world. Though we had had our rough patches, I was sure we were made for each other.
