Catching Genesis by Nicole Riddley (34)

One With the Ninja Power

“I have to do this,” I whisper to Serena, Reese, Penny, and River.

Serena eases her hold on my arm. Reese, Penny, and River are giving Logan death glares.

I turn to face Constantine once again. The heat of his anger is there. I plead with my eyes for him to understand just before I follow Logan to the other side of the building.

Logan's minions are standing at the corner, watching us. He nods at them and they move a bit further away, giving us a bit more privacy.

His eyes scan me from top to bottom then up again before they linger on my face. I fidget with the edge of my top for a while, waiting for him to say something.

“You're looking good, Genesis,” he starts finally. “Hell, you're looking better than good. I bet you already knew that,” he adds almost bitterly.

And you're not looking so good. Well, I'm just thinking that. I don't think it's wise to say that out loud. Oh, he's still attractive, but I think he could do with a shower and a shave. I don't think he looks too hot with a five o'clock shadow. Unlike Constantine.

“Uh...thank you, I think. Is that all you need to talk to me about?” I didn't mean to sound so snotty, it just comes out that way.

“No,” he scowls. “He's marked you.” It's more of a statement rather than a question. His gaze travels to my neck. His eyes show his confusion for a while at the lack of a mark on it.

My mark is on my shoulder, rather than on the neck like werewolves. I was told that only other lycans can sense another marked lycans. Most werewolves can't sense this.

“But I felt it.” He looks puzzled.

“Huh?”

“I felt it when he marked you...he must have...I mean, the pain was intense. And last night...” his voice trails away and his eyebrows furrow.

“Yes, he did. He's marked me,” I reply. He must have felt our... uh… painting sessions last night too. Yikes! I don't know how to feel about that. I wanted to get back at him for making me suffer from his sleeping around before, but I'm not so sure now. I mean, I've moved on. I'm happy with Constantine. I don't care about revenge anymore and I certainly don't want him to “feel” anything every time I'm “with” Constantine.

“So that was it. That's what I felt last night. The pain. I felt it every damn time he's fucking you,” he spits. He grits his teeth and he runs his fingers through his unruly hair in agitation.

“No more than I felt you when you're sleeping around with anything that moves,” I snap back. I suffered through those pain, I refuse to feel guilty for what he's feeling now.

“Okay, so we hurt each other....”

“Yeah, so now we should just move on,” I intercept him. I'm about done with this discussion.

“So, we hurt each other...” He repeats louder through a clenched jaw. “We're even now. We should put this behind us and get back together.”

For a moment, I all could do is just stand there and gape at him. What is he? Daft?

“That's the way it should be, Genesis. You're my mate, you're born to be with me...look at me. I need you. You have to come back to me.”

“We were never together, to begin with, Logan,” I remind him. “You should've thought of that before you rejected me.”

“Okay, look...I'm sorry. I was a jerk. It was stupid and I regretted it the moment I did it, but I was too proud and I can't show my weakness to others.”

“You were too proud? Your pride caused me a lot of pain. Well, congratulations to you and your pride. May you live a long and happy life together.”

“NO! Genesis, you need to come back to me...you're my mate.” Now he sounds like he's begging.

“I'm not your mate, Logan. I already have a mate.”

He winces at that.

“You could reject him, and come back to me.”

“Why would I do that, Logan? I love him.”

“I could mark you and we could be mates again.” He's acting as if I haven't said anything.

What? Seriously? He's losing his mind.

“NO. You don't want to do that, Logan. I'm a lycan now...and I am marked by a lycan. My blood will only poison you and if you're not killed by my blood, my mate will.”

Suddenly, his eyes turn icy and his hands clenched into tight fists at his side. “Look at you, all high and mighty now. You're such a tease. You could've been my mistress.” He jeers, moving closer. “I could've had you.”

“Stop it, Logan! You haven't changed!” I take a step back.

He's behaving like a madman. One minute he's apologetic and begging me to go back to him, the next moment he's all mad and condescending—and crazy. I can't deal with his multiple personalities.

“I wish you happiness. I truly do. I hope you'll find yourself a good mate and a suitable luna for this pack,” I continue while I take a few steps away from him.

“You're not walking away from me, Genesis! You are mine! You'll always be mine. You know how you like my touch. Let me remind you...”

I take another step back and utter the words that I should have uttered a long time ago. “I Genesis Fairchild accept your—”

“NO! STOP!” he yells and his hand suddenly grabs my wrist, but something flashed by me in a blur of a movement and then my wrist is free.

Constantine.

One of Constantine's hand is pinning Logan against the wall by the throat, while another is gripping Logan's hand that was holding my wrist a moment ago. Oh gosh, this is almost a replay of what happened in the hallways of the school not too long ago.

I'm glad to see that at least his eyes are still very human, even though they darken considerably by his anger. At least he's still in control of his lycan. He snarls viciously at Logan, showing his sharp teeth and elongated canines. I can feel that he's seriously contemplating killing Logan.

“No, Constantine...stop! Costa...please,” I plead, closing my hand around his solid arm.

Logan's friends move in a little closer in alarm, but none of them dares do anything. A few other students are standing around, watching us. At least they have enough sense to do that at a good distance.

The lycans are here too. I sense and see that they have no intention of interfering. They're just observing coolly. Serena looks calm as usual, Lazarus is unreadable, and Caspian is leaning against the wall of the school building, looking bored.

Constantine is a good few inches taller. He's towering over Logan, staring down at him contemplatively. Right now, he's looking like he's deciding whether to rip Logan's heart right out of his chest or snap his head right off his body.

“Sweetheart, please...” I plead again urgently. I touch his cheek to gain his attention, my other hand is holding on tightly onto his arm. His eyes never waver from Logan's face.

I notice Logan grits his teeth at the way I'm talking to Constantine and touching him.

“I want nothing more than to crush your skull right now,” he informs Logan quietly with a dangerous cruel smile playing on his lips. “Talk to my mate again, or go anywhere near her, and I swear I will end you.”

Then he turns to look at me and smiles. A wide smile that shows off his straight white teeth and his sharp canines. I'm not fooled by that smile though. I know he's not happy. Just as I thought he's about to let Logan go, I hear a crunch of a broken bone and Logan screaming out in agony.

He walks off while Logan is still screaming, holding on to his broken right arm.

Just as I'm about to take off after Constantine, Logan crouches low then growls and springs up from his crouch, snapping his teeth, swiping his long sharp nails at Constantine's back.

I instinctively leap in front of Logan, pinning him to the wall behind us with his good arm in my grip.

I wring his arm till I feel and hear a sickening crunch of a bone breaking. He's howling loudly in my ear. That one was me saving his life. Constantine could have ended him with a flick of a wrist. I move my hands to his upper arm and press hard until I feel it snaps and hears that cracking sound again, and this one is for trying to harm my mate, even though I know there is no way he could've hurt a lycan.

“I accept your rejection, Logan Carrington,” I whisper in his ear before I walk away, leaving him howling, screaming, and crumpled on the ground.

Strangely I feel lighter. No, it doesn't feel good to hurt somebody, even when that somebody is my jerk ex-mate who hurt me more than anybody ever did in my life. I think I feel lighter because that connection is totally severed now. I do wish him well, but I don't want anything to do with him anymore.

Constantine is standing not too far away, looking at me with pride, and something else in his eyes. The rest of the lycans are standing around him. I take Constantine's outstretched hand, and we walk away from there, followed by the rest of the lycans.

“Costa...I'm sorry,” I whisper urgently, staring at his beautiful stern profile as we cross the small field. “Costa...?” I tug at his hand.

I can feel his anger. I don't like it when he's angry with me.

He suddenly changes direction with my hand still firmly in his. We're now walking away from the school building. The rest of the lycans keep walking into the school without us.

When we reach the first tree at the end of the field, he stops. He turns his blazing gray eyes to look at me for the first time since he brought me here.

“I'm not angry with you. I understand what you needed to do... I'm not happy that you went off with him like that, but I understand,” he says. “I'm still mad at him though. The only reason he's still alive is because you didn't want me to kill him, and I know for sure that there's no way in hell he can have you. If I believe otherwise, he'd be dead by now.”

“Okay,” I smile. “So you're not angry with me.”

“Sweetheart, I'm not. Even if I was, you know I can't stay angry with you for too long.” He sighs. “What am I going to do with you?” He shakes his head.

“Oh, I can think of a few things...” I move in closer.

“You look so hot when you saved me from his attack just now.” His eyes darken with something else now instead of anger. “I know you're trying to save him...but you look so dangerous and sexy as hell. I could've taken you then...right after you broke his arm, the second time.”

He leans in and takes my mouth in a hot searing kiss. I press my body up against his and grab a hold of the back of his neck and tangle my fingers in his thick silky hair. His tongue delves into my mouth, and he presses me up against the tree behind me. Our tongues glide together. Oh, the taste of him. He moans against my lips.

He picks me up and wraps my legs around his waist. Heat surges through my whole body from everywhere that we're touching.

“We have to get to class,” he murmurs. His voice is deliciously husky. His mouth is now kissing, sucking and nibbling me behind my ear and slowly moving down my neck.

“Yes.” I moan as he grabs my hair and moves my head to the side to give him better access to my neck.

He pushes me harder against the tree, grinding his body against mine. His mouth covers mine as a moan escapes my lips. Constantine...

“Goddess....I'm addicted to you,” he groans, tearing his mouth off mine. We're both panting hard.

Constantine walks me to my classroom, which is art. Good thing it's the class that I like. It's good that my art teacher, Mrs. Winters, likes me too. I have learned to ignore the stares and the whispers around us. Today, more than any other day, I have to pretend not to notice any of it. I just broke the future alpha's arm. It's easy to ignore them when I'm with Constantine and with my lycan pack. When I'm in the confines of a classroom though, it's harder to ignore. My lycan hearing can hear every word they're saying about me.

Well, at least none of them has the courage to come up and say it to my face. They know not to mess up with a lycan...especially after what I just did to Logan's arm.

Ha!!! Ninja power!

Mia Brown enters my classroom about thirty minutes later. She usually gives me death glares from afar whenever she sees me now, and I can see so much hatred in her eyes.

She talks to the teacher and hands her a note. A few minutes later, Mrs. Winters looks at me and says, “Genesis, you're expected in the principal's office right now, dear.”

I was half expecting that. I mean I just broke my ex-mate, the golden boy, the future alpha's arm in two places. Besides, I haven't visited the principal's office for quite a while. The principal must have missed me.

The last time I was in trouble was late last year when Penny and I placed a few fake cockroaches and fake dead rats at the most inspired, well-chosen places around the cafeteria. River dared us. So, it was partly his fault. I don't know how they figured out it was us though. Well, okay, maybe because we got into trouble for something like that a few times before.

It was a beautiful sight though, girls and even guys were screaming, some jump onto the tables and chairs, and food flying everywhere. Ahhh... good times.

I grab all my brushes and place the painting I've been working on at the back of the classroom. I can feel eyes following my every movement. After I finished cleaning up, I gather up all my stuff and look up to see Mia still waiting by the door.

I'm not feeling too eager to face our principal though. No, I don't miss him all that much.

Mia walks with a spring in her steps. She doesn't say a word until we reach the front of the office.

“Alpha Carrington would like to see you,” she says with a smug look on her face and a gleeful glint in her eyes.
