“I am, too.” I smiled over at him as our gazes locked and heat filled the room. “What happens after time passes? Do we still feel like this or does that fade away? I only have family to compare it to and they were so dysfunctional.”
“I’d like to think it only gets better. We grow together and get through life by being open. We talk and work everything out before it’s an issue.” Allen smiled. “I’ve never done any of that before.”
“We learn together,” I murmured as he leaned in to brush his lips against mine softly. “It will be a journey.”
We drank wine and talked softly together before I kissed him again. I stayed awake after Allen, listening to him breathe as I wondered how long this might last. It felt so right in this moment and I knew he loved me as I stroked his skin. I trusted him even though my heart fluttered in fear just a little bit. I knew that every day was going to be part of the healing process and we’d get through it together.
