Matthew

Mated. Married. Mesmerized.

My husband, my mate, my Jonah was ridiculously handsome in his tuxedo. We skipped having a reception line first and went straight into our first dance. I felt like a fucking Disney princess as he swept me around the room.

"How did I not know you could dance, Shakespeare?"

"What did you think we were going to do for our first dance?" Jonah asked. "Sway back and forth?"

"Well, yeah."

Jonah paused and dipped me, to the applause of our audience, and then the DJ invited everyone to join us on the floor. Amy immediately started a little dance circle with Allan, Irene, and Tony. Noah swept in to steal his little brother from Ray, who promptly whisked Papa P onto the floor.

I had just realized that his moves looked surprisingly familiar when Jonah said, "I asked Ray to teach me."

"You didn't just learn off YouTube?" I teased.

"I tried," Jonah said, grave and serious. "But apparently partner dancing is hard to perfect without an actual partner."

"You don't say." I smothered a giggle, and the first song ended. "Can we go get a drink and kiss our baby before we go another round?"

"Of course."

Preston and Noah were juggling babies and punch at the beverage table when we joined them. "Do you need help?" I asked.

Preston waved me away. He'd reclaimed Jack at some point, and was much calmer than before the wedding. "This is the easiest part," he said. "All I really have to do now is make sure we get the cake cut on time, and the toasts and the speeches…"

"So nothing, really," I teased.

"Don't you worry about details," Preston fussed. "That's my job. You just enjoy and be glad that I’m in charge of the reception instead of Pax."

"Yes, sir." I turned my attention to the dance floor. "Preston, is your mom dancing with Dr. Wendy?"

Preston's pleased smile turned sour. "I don't want to talk about it."

Noah's grin was a mile wide. "This is so payback for all the crap you gave me about my dads," he said.

"Are they really…" Jonah started.

"La la la," Preston shouted, moving away from us. "I can't hear you!"

Noah stepped closer to say quietly, "They haven't said anything publicly, but I've suspected there's something there for a while. I guess we'll just have to wait and see?"

I watched the two women for a while, darting occasional glances at Preston. Shouldn't he just be happy he had a mom? And that she was happy?

No, he probably knew better than most of us how to appreciate his living parent, after having one who was shit during his life and now… now he was literal shit in some field or sewage system somewhere.

Okay, that was gross. Moving on. Moving way, way on.

"Boys," a large woman boomed, descending on us like a train, with a full line of brightly dressed younger women in her wake.

"That would be Mama C," Jonah said before she wrapped her long arms around the two of us.

"I'm so happy to see the last of you boys settled," she said. "I'm going to tell Simon we need to have a family dinner again. It's been a long time."

Jonah nodded enthusiastically. "You know none of us will ever say no to your food, Mama C."

"I know, I know. It's just been such an influx of babies lately, and my girls are worthless, just completely worthless."

A hand shot up from her brood. "I'm the worthless one today!"

Mama C turned a baleful glare on her. "You do realize that is not a badge of honor, figlia."

"Hush, Teresa," one of them muttered. "You know how she gets when she starts breaking out the Italian."

"We won't take up too much of your time," Mama C said, wrapping us in one last hug. "Congratulations, boys."

We barely had a chance to breathe before Ezra and Cain approached us, their hands empty of children.

"Where is Timothy?" Jonah asked, on alert.

"We put him to work behind the bar," Ezra said.

Cain punched his shoulder. "Don't give my brother a heart attack, Ezra. They're with Ma and Pa Dempsey, along with the girls."

Jonah's shoulders immediately relaxed, but he still asked, "Are they okay with four babies?"

Ezra threw an arm around Jonah's shoulders. "Yeah, they've got a hand for each of them. The real trouble will be when number five comes around."

My eyes widened. They already had three babies under a year old, and they were already expecting…

Cain saw the thoughts crossing my face and jumped in. "Shit, Ezra! Think about what you're saying for two seconds. No, I'm not pregnant, no matter how much my mate keeps talking about it." He pinned said mate with a dark glare.

Ezra shrugged unapologetically, releasing Jonah. "It's not my fault you're sexy as all get out when you're pregnant. And every other moment," he quickly added as Cain's face hardened further. "I mean, you're just plain sexy as hell, Cain. And when there's more of you to love, it's just more sexy…"

Jonah plugged his ears with his fingers and shook his head as I busted a gut.

"Maybe you should take advantage of this opportunity to put aside the shovel, climb out of the hole you dug, and ask your mate to dance," Cain said.

"Excellent idea," Ezra agreed, offering his hand.

I patted Jonah on the shoulder. "They're gone."

Jonah carefully unplugged his ears. "If I never have to hear my brother referred to as 'sexy' again…"

"I think you should just be glad to hear he's not pregnant again."

Jonah shuddered. "Can you imagine? One baby is hard enough. I can barely imagine three, and I've been there for most of their lives. Let alone four!"

The excitement of the day had nearly wiped away the news David had whispered to me before anyone else had arrived. "Wanna know a secret?" I murmured to Jonah, wary of the many shifter ears in hearing distance.

"I'm an information geek, Agent Sugar Bear. As if you need to ask."

"Boomer and David are going to have another. They just found out this morning."

"Are you certain? I haven't scented a change—"

"But did you notice he's absolutely buried in cologne today?"

The light bulb went off behind Jonah's eyes. "Ohhh…"

"They didn't want to overshadow our day. David said they'd be announcing it later this week, if he could keep his mom from finding out before he told her."

"Huh. I would have expected Levi and Cody to be next," Jonah said.

"I don't know… I think they might just stick with their two."

"Oh really?" Jonah pulled me in front of him, and I leaned against his chest. "What makes you think that?"

I shrugged. "Nothing particular. Just a sense. An intuition. I could be completely wrong, but…"

"So what does your intuition say about Zeke and Pax?"

"Hmm… I bet they have another set of twins."

A surprised laugh burst from Jonah. "Now you're just making shit up."

I smiled, even though he couldn't see it. "Maybe. But it's fun to imagine and speculate, don’t you think? I bet Noah and Preston end up with the most. Six, all singles. Papa P and Ray are done done—they've learned their lesson. Though Preston might get another sibling through his mom…"

Jonah's shoulders were shaking with laughter. "Agent Sugar Bear? Are you also having fun imagining a life with me? A future?"

I turned in his arms to face him. "I don't need to imagine it, Jonah. I see it. It's a life without you and your crazy mixed-up family that I can't picture. That kind of future is no life at all. It's not an option. It's you and me to the end now, babe. You up for the mission?"

Jonah kissed me deeply. "That's the kind of mission I will gladly accept."
