His Revenge: A Mafia Revenge Romance (Omerta Series Book 4) by Roxy Sinclaire (23)

Ireland

Ronan

We ended up in Ireland. I'd never been in the country and my Irish wasn’t that great, but lucky me, they spoke English, just heavily accented. We were pretty much all confused what to do with our lives, me with a kid on the way, Seamus with his daughter who he still had to learn how to talk to.

At least we were well received. Seamus had told me he knew people, but it still surprised me, the kind of reception we received. Not that there were people waiting for us at the airport, but as soon as we got to where we would be staying, people kept showing up and acting like it was Christmas. People were happy that Quinn was dead, even all the way in Ireland.

There had been so many attempts on his life it was only a matter of time before it happened. For most people, it was just a matter of when. As soon as people caught wind of the whole story, what with Brigid's death several weeks before Quinn, and Seamus being blamed for it, they connected a few dots. As soon as people knew that Seamus was involved in Quinn's death, he was welcomed with open arms.

Considering the life he lived before and after knowing Quinn, it was the most accepting anyone had ever been of him.

He'd told us, on the plane ride, how he'd met Quinn. How he had a tough childhood, mostly lived on the streets and fighting to survive. How Quinn made them out to be best friends, treated Seamus like a brother. Quinn was older by ten years, and Seamus, still a child then, looked up to him. Then Quinn took him from his life on the streets, took him out of the country all the way to America.

He hadn't known in the beginning, just how bad Quinn was. Or why he kept Seamus with him. Until he realized it was all just a ploy so Quinn could build him into a weapon, training his own hit man instead of just hiring one. How the only reason he stuck it out as long as he did was because he loved Brigid, and she loved him back, but not enough to get over her fear of Quinn and run away with Seamus. It was understandable she would be, though, seeing as the age she was when she passed away, fifty-three, put her at twelve years younger than her husband at the time they met and married. Knowing he was dangerous, she never would have risked angering him. Then she had Teagan and never changed her mind.

Quinn was a heartless man that only cared for himself and would use anyone to get what he wanted. No one would miss him.

Seamus, on the other hand, got nothing but praise for his bravery. They told him he could do whatever he wanted in Dublin and they would support him, and he relayed the message to us. He didn’t specify who they were, not that it mattered.

"You're seriously considering asking for something, aren’t you?"

He shrugged, watching Teagan move around, cooking for the both of us. It was amazing how she hadn't broken down, once, though we both expected something, even a little freak out would have made me feel better. I didn’t wish for her to worry, but it would have made me feel better if she wasn’t so okay with the whole thing.

"Well, I have always wanted a bar. I mean, I have money, but definitely not enough to live off for the rest of my life—or both of yours."

"We're both adults, we can look after ourselves. Although, yeah, finding a job is going to take a while."

He shrugged. "You have a while. You're both welcome to stay here for as long as you want. If there's anything you need don’t hesitate to ask, I'll help you the best way I can."

I didn’t doubt him. Of course, he was being friendlier since Quinn was dead and I imagined he was still trying to get his head around things. He lost a woman he loved and gained a daughter, and though he would never say it, I knew he would want to have her close by.

I glanced over at Teagan to find her already looking at me. I gave her a small smile and held out my hand to her. She returned my smile as she stepped closer to wrap her arms around my chest. I put my outstretched arm around her shoulders and we both turned to Seamus. He arched his eyebrows, curious, but waited for us to speak.

"We've been discussing a few things since we arrived, but even if we hadn't talked to each other about it, our individual decisions would have been the same. We will stay with you, and not just for a while. That is if you want us to stick around."

He looked surprised, for a moment just staring at us with his mouth partly open. Then Teagan pulled away from my side and moved to sit beside him, laying one of her hands on his.

"I want to do this. The both of you are my family now, and I don’t want to lose either one of you. Besides, I only just found you, and this way I can be with my real dad."

For a moment, he looked shell-shocked. Then he started blinking, and I had the suspicious feeling he was trying to hold back tears. He turned his hand to capture Teagan's in his and squeezed, ducking his head to hide his face.

I wondered if he would be as happy once we told him Teagan was expecting.

The next upcoming weeks were busy for all three of us. Seamus was serious about opening a bar, and both Teagan and I spent time looking for work in our fields. We weren’t forced to change our names, once the Quinn investigation was closed, we dumped the fake papers that got us out of the States and resumed our identities without fear.

Teagan and I planned to get married. Seamus surprised us both by not being mad and actually accepting it. The tight community pitched in once they heard the news and we barely had to do anything. We spent most of our time helping Seamus find a place and deal with some of the legal issues of starting up his business.

A couple months after we arrived in Dublin, we opened the bar. There was a big party to celebrate it, and on the night of the opening, we announced the pregnancy. It wasn’t like we could have kept it hidden much longer, with Teagan growing in size every day even though her stomach wasn’t showing yet.

"How long…"

"A while. I found out before we moved here."

"How did I not notice?"

I dragged Teagan closer to me, putting an arm around her. "How did you not realize she was growing and running out of ideas on how to hide it?"

Teagan just laughed. "He probably just thought I was gaining a little weight and didn’t want to sound rude by asking."

By his disgruntled look, it was probably true.

Everyone was happy for us, and the wedding ceremony was set for two weeks later so she could fit in the dress. She was taken away from me by the women while Seamus pulled me aside for a 'talk.'

It was the happiest any of us had been for a while, and Teagan, particularly, deserved it. She'd looked sick in the weeks after her mom's death, and seeing her then, she practically glowed now. Seamus pretended a little anger for my not telling him before we even left the States, but then he pulled me into a bear hug and hurried off to his daughter, a smile on his face like I'd never seen before.

As for me, I was no longer weighed down by the deaths of my parents. Torturing Quinn for it had been enough for me. It felt closer to something I could move on from and be happy instead of bitter.

It wasn’t exactly a conventional family, but it was ours now.
