Hold Still (A Hold Series Spin-off Book 2) by Arell Rivers (21)

Ozzy

AFTER MY MORNING swim and shower, I pull on my usual outfit of T-shirt and shorts and lay back on my bed. Feeling restless, I turn to my side and pick up my phone. Not wanting to seem like a pussy and text McKenna again, I choose a different contact.

“Hola, Mamí.”

“Ozzy! So good to hear from you. How are things going out in Las Vegas?”

“They’re … interesting. I’ve been writing new songs for my album.”

“That’s great. Write any songs about your dear old Mamí in Puerto Rico?”

I chuckle at her question. “Well, the whole vibe is much more Puertoriqueño than my last album. Tío Miguel would love it.”

“I bet I will, too.”

I turn my head on my pillow. “So, Mom. I wanted to run something by you. Teresa sent me a letter.” Via Luis, but I don’t share this piece of news.

Her voice takes on a hard edge. She spits, “She did?”

Gotta love a momma bear looking out for her cub. Even if this cub is now thirty-eight-years-old. “Yeah. Among other things, she said I didn’t listen to her when she wanted to share news about her college life.”

“Well, sounds like sour grapes to me. You’re a huge star now. I think she’s trying to make you feel guilty.”

“And do what? Take her back?”

“Oh, she was a master-manipulator. I saw that right from the start. I wouldn’t be surprised if she didn’t want to get her hooks back into you. You’re well rid of her.”

“She’s ten million bucks richer now, ‘cause of me. I’d never look twice at her again.”

“Money well spent.”

The note of finality to her tone shifts my focus from my past to my future. “Besides, I’ve met someone out here.”

“You have? Tell me about her.”

I play with the pillowcase. Sucking in a breath, I admit, “Her name’s McKenna and she’s a graphic designer. She’s working on the Artist Adventure Avenue Project that some of my songs will be featured in.”

“I remember your telling me about the Project. She sounds smart.”

I push back against the headboard. “She is. And she’s funny. Plus, she doesn’t let me get away with anything.”

“I like her already. When can you bring her here to meet the familia?”

My eyes go wide. “Slow down there, mamacita. We’ve only started dating.”

“You’re still planning on coming here in January, right? Maybe then?”

I roll my eyes. Why did I think calling Mamí was a good idea? Oh yeah, because McKenna’s not here. Deciding to ignore her last comment, I ask about my brothers and sister, which takes her down a different path. Once I’m all caught up, I promise to call her again soon, and hang up with an “I love you.”

Bans barking at the front door brings me down the stairs.

“Down!” McKenna points to the floor, juggling her laptop. “Ozzy!” she yells in frustration.

The golden retriever only wants to lick McKenna’s face, but I can’t convince her of that. “Bans, come.”

Immediately, Bans turns and sits at my heel. A smile works its way across my face as I drink in the frazzled beauty in front of me. Giving the dog a hand command to stay, I approach McKenna, take her laptop case and put it on the floor. And proceed to join my lips to hers. “A day was too long away from you.”

She runs her fingers through my hair, then down to brush against my stubble, her finger ending up on my bottom lip. “You’re a sight for sore eyes.”

Not letting her move out of my embrace, I ask, “How’s your mom? Did the docs give you some good news?”

She breaks our eye contact. “She’s doing alright.”

Bending down, I wrap my arms around her waist and lift her off the floor. “Glad to hear it,” I whisper into her ear.

Giggling, she arches her back. “How’s the song writing biz?”

I deposit her back on the floor. Grabbing her laptop case in one hand while interlocking our fingers with the other, I lead her to the music room. “Going well. The band and I worked late last night at the Jade—since you weren’t coming over—and we started a few more songs.”

She claps. “Awesome! I’m so happy for you. Let’s hear what you’ve got.”

Grabbing my guitar, I say, “I hope all my fans are as excited as you for new songs.” I play a few chords. “Oh, and did I mention I’m thrilled you used your key today?”

“Yeah, well, Bans had other ideas.” She cocks her head. “Maybe if you gave her another name, she wouldn’t be so angry all the time.”

“What? She loves her name.” I strap the guitar around my body and pull out the sheaf of sheet music I’ve been working on.

Booting up her laptop, she eyes Bans, who has walked into the room.

“Come here.” I stretch out my hand, motioning for her to take it, which she does. I lead her over to the dog. “She’s very friendly to people she likes, and I can tell she likes you. Why don’t you pet her?”

“Dogs make me jumpy,” she whispers.

I go on my haunches and Bans’s head comes up. Looking into McKenna’s eyes, I incline my head toward the dog. Taking McKenna’s hand in mine, we both pet the dog, whose tail wags with all the attention.

“She’s soft.”

“Aiden took her to the groomers yesterday for me.”

We continue petting her together. When she rolls over, I scratch her belly and stand. McKenna joins me. “See, she’s really a pussycat.”

Next to me, McKenna snorts. “I wouldn’t go that far, but she’s sweet.” Bans goes over to her bed and lies down, her tail wagging.

Once we resume our positions—McKenna at the table with her laptop and me by the instruments—I proceed to play all of my new songs. McKenna records them on her cell phone and scribbles notes onto a stray piece of sheet music. She offers her opinion on some of the songs and then goes off to work on her computer while I continue to play around with the notes.

My mind keeps straying to the letter Teresa sent me. I need her take on it. Without interrupting her work, I go into my office and pick up the notebook paper. Sitting next to McKenna, I offer it to her to read.

She holds it up. “What’s this?”

“Teresa sent it to me. Had it hand delivered, actually, by Luis. I’d like an outsider’s perspective.” I push it back so she can read it.

She bites her bottom lip. “Okay.” Her eyes skim the words, her eyebrows forming a frown. When she finishes, she places the paper down. Running her tongue over her lips, she asks, “What do you think about what she said?”

“You sort of nailed it. I didn’t take her life into consideration,” I reply. “But, I like to think I’ve changed.”

“Life makes change happen, one way or another. I’m sorry you had to go through this.” She kisses my cheek.

“I missed you yesterday.”

“And I missed you, too. But, I’m here now.”

She embraces me. I don’t care about anything but showing this woman how much she means to me. Now. “Dulcita.”

She doesn’t move. “Yes?”

My hands reach for her waist and pull out her shirt from her pants. “Off.”

Her hands fly up and I skim her blouse over her head. For her part, she unbuckles my belt and my cock stirs in anticipation. Like every other time, we’re naked in no time flat. Standing up with her, I grab her hand and head toward my bedroom.

Not having the patience to walk even another step, I bring her over to the stairs. “I need you hard and fast,” I growl in between kisses.

“Please,” she mewls.

I dip my fingers into her center, greeted by wet warmth. “Always so ready for me.”

Her lips play at my nipple rings while my finger circles and circles her clit, working her into a frenzy. I urge her up one stair so we’re now almost equal height. Rolling a condom over my length, I put my leg between hers, which she rides.

“Like that?”

“Mmm, hummm,” comes her response.

I grab her ass, and tilt her body into mine. I don’t allow my cock to slide home, but rather for the friction to heighten our senses. My mouth latches onto her nipple, and I bring my teeth together, causing her to cry out.

She continues to hump my leg while her hands grab my ass and squeeze. “God, Ozzy. What you make me feel.”

In response, I let her nipple fall from my mouth and take her lips in mine, my tongue swirling to mimick the rhythm of my fingers now inside her warmth. Her body clenches and then she cries out as liquid coats my fingers.

“One.”

I want to hear her scream at least once more before I pound into her right here on the stairs. Spinning her around, I rain kisses down her spine. My hands find her hips and dig in—I can dig in because she has some meat on her bones. And I like it.

Stepping forward, I thrust my cock between her ass cheeks, rubbing myself all over her. “Ever been taken back here?”

“What? Oh.” She thrusts back at me. “Uhm, yeah.”

“But never by me.”

Her head shakes from side to side. Damn. Where’s the lube? It’s upstairs in the bedroom, a whole long flight of stairs away. Continuing my onslaught on the outskirts of her ass, I bring my fingers forward and play with her pussy. “Next time.”

A long moan accompanies her next thrust backward. Her hands reach forward and she folds onto the steps, catching herself by her hands, ass in the air.

“Two.”

Taking my cock in my hand, I position it at her entrance and enter her with one thrust.

“Oh my God!” She pushes back, absorbing all of me.

Standing over her body, sweat pouring off both of us, I ram into her over and over, each thrust better than the last. “I would fuck you forever, if I could,” I manage.

She pushes backward. “And I’d love every second of it.”

Wrapping her hair around my hand, I tug. Her neck extends, her tits bouncing before her. “When you come next time, I want you to scream my name so that the neighbors all know who’s screwing you.”

She pants out a “yes.”

I continue the punishing rhythm until I feel her walls closing in on me. My balls tighten and I pull on her hair as I shout, “Fuuuuck!!” I keep thrusting until she screams, “Ozzy!”

When the last tremors run through our bodies, I skim my fingers up and down her torso from her hips to her tits. Placing kisses on her neck, my lips make their way up to her earlobe. Biting it, I whisper, “You make me insane.”

Her lower half shifts. “Right back at you.”

With her on the first step, she’s a lot taller than usual. I enjoy the feel of her body against mine.

As I’m pulling out of her, she asks, “What’s up here?”

“The bedrooms.” For as many times as we’ve had sex, it’s never been in a bed. My cheeks inflate against her neck. “Gotta make you earn admittance.”

Her hand sneaks around and grabs the back of my head. She turns and kisses me full stop. “Game on.”

Stepping around me, she breaks our contact and scoops up her clothes. I watch as she puts one foot, then the other, into her panties and pulls them up into place. When she picks up her bra, I snatch it from her grasp. “Please, allow me.”

“I’M GLAD YOU’RE able to come to the concert tonight.” She even brought a change of clothes.

McKenna puts the strap of her dress into place. It’s a yellow confection—hence the hair color change—rhinestones glittering all over it. “Our neighbor promised to look out for Mom.”

I play with the skirt that’s higher in the front than the back. When she produces red, high-heeled sandals, my mouth waters. “Damn. You’re fucking hot.”

Once her shoes are on her feet, she marches up and down. “Gotta keep up with my tatted and pierced man.” Her fingers trace the sleeve of tattoos on my right arm. “Tell me about all these.”

I bark a laugh. “We don’t have time for all the stories.”

She points to a mermaid. “Okay. This one.”

I smile. “My sister loved Ariel, the Disney mermaid. Got that one for her.”

“Nice.” She kisses it.

“Not as nice as these.” I kiss her tits through her dress and she giggles. “C’mon, let’s go. The guys wanted to practice ‘Honesty,’—we’re going to debut tonight.”

After a quick ride on Shirley, we’re inside my dressing room at the Jade, surrounded by my band members. Stan’s drumsticks play on the coffee table while Tim plays the portable keyboard. I join in and sing the first verse, then Jazz and Mark add in their instruments during the chorus. Our first run-through of the song ends with all of us at full-throttle.

Our audience—consisting of McKenna and Aiden—yells their praise. McKenna’s heard my solo version of the song, but never with my band, and this is Aiden’s first exposure. The band’s stoked about it, but I’m happy these two like it, too.

Aiden stands and claps. “Guys, this is phenomenal.”

For her part, McKenna runs to me and kisses my lips. Then, she turns and gives each one of my band members a kiss on their cheeks. The guys, to a one, blush and look at their feet. I grab her around the waist and plant a sloppy kiss on her.

Clearing my throat, I say, “Thanks. You’re our first test audience.”

After shooting the shit for a while, Aiden says, “Okay. It’s time to take your marks, guys.”

I turn to McKenna while everyone leaves for the show. “Watch backstage tonight. It’ll be our first time.”

She touches my pecs and leans in. “I like it when we do firsts together.”

My mind immediately goes to taking her ass, but I shake my head to clear it. I have a concert to give and I don’t want to be hard to start it. “You’re a menace.”

“And you like it!” She giggles and walks to the backstage area, leaving me with barely enough time to bury my sex thoughts and mentally prepare for tonight’s show, complete with ‘Honesty.’

“Thank you, Las Vegas! You rock!” I shout into the microphone as my band members join me in the front of the stage and we take our final bows. The curtain closes in front of us and we high-five each other.

“Super gig guys,” Jazz says.

Stan chimes in, “They love the new stuff.”

“Thanks to you,” I add. Turning, my eyes land on McKenna, who’s talking with Aiden. I stride over to them, stripping off my wet shirt as I go.

Aiden hands me my bottle of water, which—as usual—I down and pour the remainder over my head. Droplets spew over him and McKenna when I shake it. Aiden rolls his eyes, but McKenna jumps backward. Some of the water seeps through the top part of her dress. All right.

Laughing, I grab her hand and bring it to my lips. “Let’s shower, then we can join the afterparty.”

She nods. Hand-in-hand, McKenna walks down the hallway with me when a guy wielding a camera turns the corner. “Great show, Ozzy,” he offers, snapping photos of us.

“Thanks, man.”

“Who’s this lovely lady?”

I glance at the woman on my arm for direction about how she wants to handle this. Her torso inflates as if she took a huge breath. Not waiting for me to respond, she says, “I’m McKenna James.” She extends her hand.

Gotta give my girl credit. Yep, she’s fearless.

The reporter writes her name down in his notebook and leaves us. I wrap my arm around McKenna and usher her into my dressing room. “You’re not afraid of anything.” Closing the door behind us, I amend, “Except Bans.”

She smirks. “I’m afraid of taking a shower alone.”

Smacking her ass, I reply, “No worries there.”
