CHAPTER  10

DARCY

The door opens to a gorgeous looking blonde. She’s a little taller than me, barefoot with bright pink nail polish on her toes, joggers and a fitted t-shirt. Looking up at her, I grin nervously as she smiles at me.

“Oh hey, come in.”

I walk into the house and look at my surroundings, it’s so nice. All light colours and airy... as I’m looking around she asks, “You must be Darcy?” She smiles wide as I nod my head. “Adam has told me all about you. Don’t look so worried.” She smiles brightly. “Would you like a coffee?”

“Yes please.” She tells me to take a seat and walks into the kitchen. I sit down as Adam sits next to me. He puts a hand on my thigh to relax me and tells me to chill.

I smile across at him and relax a bit into the mound of cushions on the settee. Adam wraps an arm around me and pulls me nearer to him, I nestle into his warmth just as Taylor walks back into the room with three cups of coffee.

“So, Darcy. How did he make you fall for his charms? Did he hypnotise you or something?” Adam raises his middle finger at her and she just laughs at him... wow! “I’m just kidding. I love him really.” I don’t know what to say so I stay quiet.

“Yeah you know you do! I’m your favourite brother and you know it.”

“Whatever you think, Ad,” Taylor laughs as Adam tries to look hurt, but it doesn’t last long. I smile at their interaction until Taylor speaks again.

“So, come on then, what’s this visit for?”

Adam looks at me to start speaking when he sees I’m not going to - he answers instead.

“Right then, I was wondering if you could make us some really catchy flyers. As you know Darcy is a mechanic but the business isn’t doing so well, I wanted some flyers we could maybe pin up around,”

“Yeah, I can’t see why not. Do you know what you want on them, Darcy?”

She looks at me for the answers and I’m totally lost. Shrugging at her. “I’m sorry, this is Adams idea. I’m not good with being creative,” I cringe as I tell her.

“Send me the bill though yeah, Tay's?” Adam says.

“Bill? I’m not charging you! It’s a design on a flyer! You’re family. I’ll do it.” She smiles across at me and I relax a little. “That goes for you too, Darcy. I’m always here if you need me.”

“Taylor, thank you so much.”

“Ahh, it’s nothing.” She waves it off and smiles again. “So, come on then, tell me what’s going on, you don’t have to tell but it’ll help if I know so I can decide on how to make the flyer.”

As I go to speak, she holds up her finger at me to halt me. “Ad, go put the kettle back on and make another drink, please.” She smiles sweetly at him and blows him a kiss.

I bite down on my lip to stop myself from laughing before I launch into telling Taylor pretty much everything. I didn’t mean to tell her so much, I think that’s the first time I’ve really let my worries go with anyone, apart from Adam - she’s the only other one.

Even my Mum doesn’t know how bad things are, it would just worry her and she’s got enough to deal with.

I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders, just for a short amount of time. Adam pulls me towards him and kisses my forehead it’s a sweet, gentle sentiment and I love it.

The front door shuts and I hear voice shout from the hallway. ‘Taylor baby, I hope you’re naked?! I rushed home for… youuu...’

I snigger to myself as I watch a man walk in the living room wide eyed. Light brown hair, big built, very good looking and just looking at him now - if I wasn’t in his brother’s house... I’d know without a doubt who he is.

“Chris, baby. This is Darcy,” Taylor says laughing.

“The… Darcy, the one that had Adam running around in circles?” Embarrassed, I look at Adam as he puts his face in his hands.

“Darcy, the big mouth is my brother Chris,” Adam mumbles. I watch as Chris walks to Taylor and kisses her quickly.

He walks towards me with his hand held out. “Darcy.”

“Pleased to meet you, Chris,” I shake his hand but he pulls me nearer to him and kisses my cheek.

“Right back atcha, Darcy.”

I sit back down by Adam as his hand goes to my leg, I cover his hand with mine and entwine my fingers with his.

We chat with Adam’s brother and Taylor for a while longer before he says he’s off to have a shower and we take that as our cue to leave. I hug and thank Taylor again for helping me and we make an agreement to meet up, then make my way towards the door.

Adam grabs my hand once we’re in the truck. “So, do you want to come back to mine for a bit?”

One look at Adam tells me he’s feeling a little nervous, I smile and ease his worries and nod. He smiles back and diverts the truck towards his house.
