Kage (Peril's End MC Book 1) by Cali MacKay, Esther E. Schmidt (2)

Chapter Two

Kage

Fuck. This one is feisty and though I should be focused on the fight, I’m instead contemplating whether I’d rather have her on top, straddling me as she rides my cock, or underneath me as I plow into her tight pussy.

Dammit.

A grunt leaves my throat since she’s planted her knee into my gut, holding nothing back. I need to fucking focus, pin her down so we can discuss this—or so we can fuck. I haven’t made up my mind what to do first.

Before my mind can process my next move, she’s got her fingers wrapped around my neck and her breath touches my lips. “Stop,” she growls and shoves me back.

She’s quick, I’ll give her that, due to the fact that I’m looking at the pointy tip of an arrow aimed right at my head, and just an inch or two space in between.

“He’s mine. Now back the fuck off.” Not a tremor in her damn fine body when she voices that threat. And it is a threat even when there’s not an ‘or else’ added to it.

I can’t help but fucking smirk. “You couldn’t have nailed the guy if I wasn’t there giving you that boost. That means, we worked together and own the bounty together. It’s ours—not mine, and not yours.”

Her eyes go wide before they narrow. The bow she’s holding slides down a bit and I know it means she realizes I’m right.

“Lower the bow, bitch.” Leave it to my fucking brother, Lars, to screw things up. “Before I—”

“Not happening.” A tiny version of the woman in front of me, with a less toned body, sticks a gun at Lars’s temple.

“Domino effect in full force. Lower that gun, sweetheart,” Ramon sweetly tells the girl that’s holding our brother at gunpoint.

“Fuck.” I hear the woman in front of me mutter as she swings around her bow, even as she barks out her commands. “Back off, Benji. Virgil, stand-down. There’s no threat here. Dessa, aim the gun at the ground for now. I’m okay. This guy, next to me, is gonna call off his guys too. Right?”

Her eyes bounce between me and her potential targets, making my mouth twitch again as I try not to smile. Damn, I don’t think my mouth has had this much facial reaction to fun in years. But if she thinks she’s the one in charge, then she’s in for a treat.

“No worries, brothers. I’ve just agreed that the feisty one here is gonna work under me,” I make sure our gaze is locked so she’s on the receiving end of my smirk before I add, “so it’s all good.”

And the pointy tip is aimed at my head again.

“I haven’t agreed to anything yet.” She hisses out her words, her eyes narrowing and locked on mine.

“Okay, could you just not aim that thing at my brother?” Lars tells her and adds, “And for real, Kage. That chick working under you? She’s got fucking hearts on her bow. I don’t know how I feel about that.”

She spins again and aims at Lars who’s standing tall, his legs slightly spread and ready for her to make a move.

“Chick, huh? Just hang on then. Cause in a second, my bow’s going to be so far up your ass, you’ll be choking on my hearts.” Frostbite. That’s how her words feel as a sly smile spreads her face without a hint of humor.

“Pushed her too far,” the tiny woman next to Lars says in a singsong voice before my brother, Lars, and his big mouth, snorts.

The arrow glides through the air with lightning speed and heads for my brother, sliding between his legs before anyone can even take their next breath. His hands come up and cup his fucking cock before he gasps, turns white, and curses.

Yeah, she totally shot an arrow straight through the limited space between his legs making a hole in his jeans but somehow missing skin. At least I’m assuming that’s the case, based on Lars’ curses.

I’m cracking up when she spins around ready to spew fury. That’s not happening. “Save it. We don’t have time to stand here arguing when other teams are in the area,” I snap and point behind me. “We need to grab the mark, who fainted when you shot the arrow that nailed him to the tree, and get the hell out of here before others come along.”

“He’s right. Seven red dots are closing in from the left and about fourteen from the right. Oh, and I’m Dessa. That’s my sister, Tamar. And you really shouldn’t push her around verbally or otherwise. Doesn’t make a difference. She’ll blow either way.”

“Noted,” I grumble and spin around to rip out the arrow Tamar shot midair, pinning our target to a damn tree without hurting him.

I smack Cashwell in the face in an effort to wake him up but he’s still out. Deciding we don’t have any time to waste, I sling the man over my shoulder.

“Which way to your truck?” I ask Tamar and she points behind me without hesitation. Good girl.

Amazing how it can take some men months or even years to be able to work together as a well-oiled team, and yet a single word from her lips, or mine, and things fall right into place, and we’re working like a team. Earlier, when I heard a voice shout ‘boost me up’ I didn’t give it a second thought before I got ready to do just that. Not to mention what happened next.

She was a damn vision, pushing herself off my laced hands to jump over a fucking wall while shooting an arrow mid-jump and landing on the other side. It took me some effort but I managed to climb over, just in time to see her pushing off the ground. She’s like no other woman I’ve ever met. If I wasn’t so close to completing my goal in this fucked up world, I’d pin her to the tree and fuck her raw.

But I can’t, because twelve years ago I was hunting down Nyles Huntington, who had killed his own father so he could take over the business—drugs, guns, smuggling. If there was money to be made, he was in the middle of it, and never mind if he left behind a trail of dead bodies. He had already been placed on the FBI’s most wanted list. But the fucker made it to the top of my own personal list when he killed my baby brother, barely seventeen years old. Retaliation for us trying to stop him from dealing drugs to the kids in our neighborhood.

So, for me? It’s more than personal.

This mess of a world has only fueled Huntington’s power. He’s grown larger than life without anyone to stop him, and he’s built himself a fucking empire, sitting pretty at the top as king. With over a hundred men loyal to him, he’s taken over the homes with solar energy and plundered everything else he wants or needs. Doesn’t even blink when it comes to killing anyone in his way. Or drugging them, leaving them strung out and high, so they can escape their reality.

Huntington has become unstoppable.

Well, fuck that. I’ve been searching for a chance to get close for over twelve years now—and this guy slung over my shoulder? That’s our ticket inside his empire. The chance me and my brothers have been waiting for. Every other plan we came up with before that was pure suicide, but I knew this was our only shot when I heard about the bounty.

Nyles has offered a solar home to anyone who brings this fucker in. Fuck the house—I’m gonna hand deliver this guy and make sure I walk out with Nyles’s blood staining my clothes. Because this world, no matter how fucked up it might be, belongs to the people who survived. Not to that fucker who still ruins it with his drugs and killings, suppressing the population and forcing them to dance to his rules.

No. Fucking. More.

“The bounty needs to be tied up and strapped into the backseat,” Tamar says as her sister tries to get into the truck.

I grab Dessa’s upper arm and steer her toward my brother, who’s heading for his truck. “Ramon, she’s riding with you. Lars, try to keep my fucking bike in one piece this time.”

I throw the keys to Lars and he catches them mid-swing, a damn smile on his face. No one but me rides my bike. I let him ride the first bike I owned fifteen years ago and he crashed it. Hence my warning to him.

“She’s not riding with him,” Tamar huffs.

I cut her off. “She is, and I’m riding with you. It’s called working together. Now get the fuck in, because I can smell others coming and we don’t want them closing in on us.”

“He’s right. Let’s go, Tamar. We’ll have enough time to argue once we’ve regrouped,” one of her teammates quips before we all head to separate trucks.

For the first time in years things seem to slide into place.
