Picture Purrfect: A Valentine Romance (Vale Valley Season 2 Book 4) by Jena Wade (8)

Chapter Eight

The next few days were a haze of editing, sleeping, and more editing. Tony had done all the running around for me. He had picked up the picture frames we had ordered and once I was done with each set of pictures, he would get the printed copies ready, put them in the frame and wrap them in pink tissue paper. Then they were all bagged in red gift bags, complete with a business card.

I barely left my chair as I edited image after image after image. Each couple that I worked on became my favorite. I paid close attention to those that included their children, like Slade and Zach with Slade’s son Lakelan.

“This turned out pretty cool,” I said. “We might have to make this a tradition.”

“Yeah, only next year you'll do it with a baby strapped to your back.”

“Or two,” I said with a laugh.

“Or three,” he said and his face paled. “Oh man, there really could be three. When do you think we can find out how many there'll be?”

“I don't know,” I said. “I'll have to ask my omega dad. I imagine it will be at our first ultrasound though.”

“Did we schedule that yet?”

I shook my head. “No, I wanted to get these pictures done first.”

Tony’s eyes lit up. “Hey! We can surprise your dads. Maybe we can make an appointment to get an ultrasound done, we'll get an image printed and put it in one of these frames,” he said. “We have extras.”

Tony always had the best ideas. “That's brilliant,” I said. “I’ll call the doctor and see if we can get in.”

“That sounds great.”

Thankfully, we were ahead of schedule on the pictures. We were able to get an appointment for the day before Valentine's at ten in the morning.

Tony could barely sit still in the chair next to me where I laid on the exam table. The ultrasound machine was next to me and the tech was getting the wand ready.

“How have you been feeling?” she asked.

“Great,” I said. “It hasn't been too bad at all. Although I've been extremely lazy.”

“Well,” she said. “You might as well get that in while you can. You won't be able to sit on your butt much more once the kiddo arrives.” She poured the gel onto my stomach and then set the wand on my bare stomach.

Both Tony and I had our eyes glued to the screen. “There's one,” I said.

“Yeah,” she said. “Looks like you're pretty early yet, so we may not be able to see much except for a heartbeat.”

“Is there just one?” Tony asked.

“Yes.” She moved the wand. “Looks like—oh wait. I spoke too soon. There’s two.”

“Just two?” Tony asked

At her nod, Tony let out a sigh of relief. “We can handle two,” he said.

I chuckled. “I don't think we have a choice.”

His eyes widened. “I was pretty scared that it was going to be triplets, though. That's just insane.”

“We would have managed,” I said, surprising myself at the complete calmness that had overtaken me. I rested a hand on my abdomen and held on to Tony’s with my other hand. We could totally do this. Together.

She printed us off a few copies of the images. We took them home, arranged them in a frame, and wrapped them up.

“Wow,” I said. “I can't believe I edited that many pictures, got them all printed, and they're all ready to be delivered tomorrow.”

“You sure you're up for the deliveries?” Tony asked.

“Yeah,” I said. “We can take the car. It's not like I'll be walking around town.”

“True.”

“And you're going to let me go to the dance, right?” I said with a raised eyebrow. I’d nearly forgotten about the Vale Valley Annual Valentine’s Date Night and Dinner hosted by Rosemary at the mayor’s mansion. Each year was better than the one before, or so I’d been told. My dads had been going for years, this would be the first year that I attended. The theme was masquerade and the menu was always a surprise.

He pulled me into a hug. “Yeah, I think we can go to the dance. But if you get tired at all—”

I put my hand over his mouth. “I'll be sure to tell you and we can come straight home. But you can't be treating me with kid gloves throughout this whole pregnancy,” I said. “It's not going to fly.”

He licked my palm and I pulled my hand away, wiping it on his shirt. He kissed me before I could get angry.

“I know, but I worry. I love you,” he said.

“I love you too. I can't believe that you’re mine.” I wrapped my arms around his waist and nestled my head against his shoulder. I purred and rubbed against him. Mine.
