Shield (Men of Hidden Creek) by Max Hawthorn (32)

Chapter Thirty-Two

Axel

Every time Fox was eager for him, it did things to Axel he couldn’t describe and didn’t ever want to name. It felt like if they had a name it would make them smaller, somehow.

There wasn’t anything small about it.

Seeing him here, now, on his back, was everything. With his legs coiled around Axel’s hips and his arms draped across Axel’s back, he was beautiful and vibrant, a wildfire that couldn’t ever be tamed.

Axel had a moment of clarity, a bright fragment of time in which everything became sharp, and he realized how enormously blessed he was to have this man in his life. Not just in his bed, but in his every waking day.

In his future.

Fox writhed in that slinky, seductive way he had, and his ass brushed over Axel’s cock.

Axel let out a low, hungry growl and reached down between them. He grasped his cock and began to rub the head around Fox’s hole, teasing them both with circular motions which reached some primal part of his brain and made him want more. Made him want to push in, to breach Fox and spill inside him.

He gasped. He hadn’t expected that instinct to be so strong, so demanding, and it took him a few seconds to remember that he had a bottle of lube in his other hand, fisted against the sheets for balance.

You probably need that, he thought.

God, how did this work? Was he supposed to squirt it into Fox, or did he just coat himself with it, or was there some arcane combination of the two which led to success? Maybe he could have looked it up online, but he worked for the FBI, damnit. He knew how a single search would lead to all kinds of websites trying to sell him lube for the next five years.

“You okay?” Fox’s words were spoken softly.

“Ha. Yeah. I, uh.” Axel grit his teeth. “Just working out the whole… lube… thing.”

“Oh!” Fox broke into another of his sun-bright smiles and took his hands from Axel’s back so that he could reach for the bottle. “Let me show you.”

Axel adjusted his position so that he could pass the bottle over, and felt a blush warm his cheeks as Fox took it from him.

“Nothing to be embarrassed about,” Fox assured him. There was a faint pop and the pat of a lid falling to the sheets, and then Fox had his hands between them, and Axel heard the squirt of a pump-action dispenser. “That ought to do it,” Fox grinned up at him as he snaked his arms down between them.

“Okay.”

He couldn’t say more. Warm wetness enveloped his cock, and it stole his breath away. Fox’s hands slid around him, making him slick, and Axel couldn’t wait any longer. He eased his hand back down and nudged Fox’s aside, then guided himself toward Fox’s entrance.

“Do it,” Fox whimpered.

Axel could feel the rippled flesh at his tip, and he pushed slightly, but it resisted, so he paused.

“It’s okay.” Fox’s breath was barely loud enough to carry his words. “Go on. Take it slow.”

It felt like eternity, and each fragment of it only dragged him closer to madness. As he pushed, Fox opened around him, and the further he went the more he yearned to thrust hard and bury himself deep inside that tight, hot body.

Not yet.

This was torturous. It was strain unlike any other. His body was on fire and sweat trickled between his shoulder blades and he sheathed himself inch by precious inch inside Fox until he couldn’t go any further.

Fox released a breath and sucked in another, then gripped Axel’s shoulders. His fingernails dug in a little, and Fox clung to him.

Axel watched his face as Fox’s concentration broke, swept away by a sly, blissful smile.

“Ready,” Fox said.

He withdrew just as slowly. Somehow, now that he was fully wrapped in Fox’s warmth, the urgency had bled from him and he was more in control of himself. He could take his sweet time, and get to know this last place intimately.

There was tightness all around him. It squeezed him, held him close, clutched him and refused to let go. It was better than the best hand-job, hotter and tighter than any place he’d ever been before. If there was heaven on Earth then it was here, right now.

Fox’s nails dragged over his skin and up into his hair. “Oh, Axel, yes. That’s it! Oh God, that’s so good. It’s perfect!”

“Yeah?” Axel couldn’t help it. “What about now?” He pushed in as deep as he could, and it made Fox moan and throw his head back against the sheets.

He was getting the hang of this.

“Harder,” Fox gasped. “Fuck me harder, Axel!”

The pressure was building again, taking over, and he drove deep and hard, gripping Fox’s shoulders so that he could pull against them. He kissed the side of Fox’s neck and lost himself in the heat which fused their bodies into one. He let it take him over.

His growls mingled with Fox’s cries. His skin tingled, starting in his balls and radiating outward from there until it felt like it consumed him. He dug his toes into the sheets as the jolt shot through him, and the pressure burst.

Wave after wave of orgasm rocked his body from within. Like a rollercoaster, every trough was followed by another peak until he was nothing more than a weakened, quivering mass that couldn’t even bear its own weight. He shuddered to a halt and buried his face in Fox’s shoulder as he slowly became aware of the hot wetness between their stomachs, and the final twitches of Fox’s cock on his skin.

For a while it was as though nothing else existed. There was Axel and there was Fox, and bliss and exhaustion. No terrorists, no explosions, and no uncertainty.

This was where he belonged.

Fox let out a slight groan, and Axel could feel himself falling out now that he was softening. It drew a gentle close to his reverie and he eased himself off to one side, then flopped onto his back and took Fox’s hand.

“Was that okay?” he whispered.

Fox gave a weak chuckle. “I dunno,” he breathed. “You might have to do it again. Several times, I think. It’s impossible to draw a well-rounded data set from one incidence, or even two or three. Science demands you do it several times a week. For the rest of our lives.”

Axel squeezed his fingers and felt the smile spread across his own face. “Well,” he said, “If science demands it, I’m hardly gonna say no to that.”

There was a gentle sigh from Fox, so Axel turned to face him, and found the other man gazing at him already with a smile of his own.

“Thank you,” Fox said. He spoke the words simply, with searing honesty.

Words spoken that way were not to make fun of, so instead Axel replied, “For what?”

“Everything. Saving my life. Helping me get into therapy. Loving me. Letting me love you.” Fox’s eyelashes fluttered a brief moment, then his smile returned, radiant as ever. “Making me the happiest I’ve been in my whole life.”

The warmth which filled him wasn’t a new thing, Axel realized. Not new new. Just new in this past month. It lingered; a constant background comfort, a level of joy which people at the office had remarked on several times now, but whenever he was in Fox’s presence, and especially in his arms, it burned like fire.

It was an inferno now. Fox’s words, the truth of them, the sincerity in his gaze, and the fact that he’d been so clear about them spending the rest of their lives together had stoked that warmth until Axel wasn’t sure he could hold it all in.

“What does science say,” he rumbled, “about more than once a day?”

Fox’s eyes widened, and then he laughed. “Science,” he murmured, “is totally down with it.”

Axel nodded and rolled closer so that he could kiss Fox slowly, delicately, treating his lips like the beautiful and wondrous things that they were.

“Okay,” he admitted. “Science is gonna have to wait a few minutes, then we can experiment again.”

Fox grinned at that, and Axel curled one arm around him to hold him tight.

He was never going to let go.
