Tate (Temptation Series Book 5) by Ella Frank (20)

Chapter Twenty

LOGAN LOOKED OUT the window as Tate drove them through the backstreets of Jill’s neighborhood. They’d just come to an intersection and pulled up at a red light, and the road was deserted. Not another car in sight on this chilly Sunday night.

There’s somewhere I want to take you… Tate’s words were still echoing in his head as the Mustang growled to life and Tate drove them straight across the four-way intersection.

As they left the subdivision with the perfectly manicured lawns and eerily similar houses, Tate navigated a winding road that took them away from suburbia and through several miles of nothing but dark road and wooded fields, and Logan still had no idea where they were going.

The night had gone well, all things considered. Tate’s nephews were a trip, and they’d sure shocked their uncle when they hadn’t cared in the least that he had a boyfriend.

Jill and Sam had been extremely welcoming, and Jill had even taken them on a quick tour before others got there, showing them the tub they’d been talking about with that nightmare renovation. Then, when their friends had arrived, each and every one of them had been nothing but lovely. Some had given Tate shit for just up and vanishing, but everyone was genuinely interested in getting to know more about the boy they’d known in high school and the man he was now living with.

The afternoon had been so busy and full of questions about how they’d met, what they did, and Tate’s new bar that neither of them had had a chance to think about things beyond the twenty questions they’d been subjected to, which was just fine by Logan.

“You cold?” Tate looked over at him, and Logan took the opportunity to appreciate the way the lights from the dash played over Tate’s strong features. That masculine jaw, the bow lips surrounded by the scruff, which was the same color as his broody eyebrows and those curls dusting his forehead, and Logan wasn’t cold in the slightest.

“No. I’m good. You?”

Tate’s eyes flicked down to Logan’s lips and then back up to his eyes. “No. I was just checking, since you’re not wearing a coat. The temperature dropped quick tonight.”

“It did. But the heater in here works good,” Logan said, putting his palms up in front of the vent.

Tate’s attention was alternating between Logan and the road as he nodded. “Hmm, yeah, it does.”

Tate?”

Yeah.”

“Where you taking me?”

When an artless grin curved Tate’s lips, Logan felt his cock react instantly. Jesus, it’s been a little while since that happened. But in that jacket with those black jeans and plain V-neck, Tate looked like the high school senior they’d all been remembering tonight, and he was irresistible. And considering Logan had been resisting his impulses all day, he was close to being done. He needed to touch Tate. Needed some kind of contact with the man he was used to being able to take without restrictions.

“I’m not telling you.”

Oh, looks like I’m not the only one feeling things. So he wants to play a little tonight. Okay. “Why not?”

“Because it’s a surprise,” Tate said as though it should be more than obvious. “Be patient.”

“Yes, because we both know that’s my strong suit.” Logan sat back in his seat. “Okay, well, since you started this little game, can you at least give me a clue?”

As Tate watched the road ahead of them, he chuckled. He was obviously happy Logan had decided to play along. “It’s somewhere we have to go to in a car.”

“Really? Like I couldn’t guess that, since we are currently in a car.”

“Hey, you asked for a clue, and I gave you one.”

Logan sighed and looked out at his surroundings again. He had absolutely no idea where they were. He didn’t venture out of the city unless it involved going to the airport or heading to New Buffalo, and clearly they were not going to either of those places. “Give me another one.”

“Hmm…” Tate tapped his fingers on the steering wheel. “Let’s see. I’m pretty sure I’m going to make you do something tonight that you’ve never done before.”

That piqued Logan’s curiosity instantly. “Really?”

“Mhmm. In fact, I’ll be shocked if I’m not your first.”

Okay, fuck. Tate had to know what he was doing to him after twenty-four hours of not touching. Right? Logan shifted in his seat, and when Tate turned to look at him, Logan said, “You better be taking me to a place where I can touch you. Because I’m just about done with keeping my hands to myself.”

“And if I’m not?”

“I’m not sure that I care.” Logan ran his gaze down Tate’s body to his thick thighs. “I need to put my hands on you. And wherever you stop this car next, I plan to do so.”

Tate slowed the car to a stop at a stop sign and flicked his indicator on. “We’re stopped.”

The smirk playing on his mouth made Logan want to kiss it right off, but instead he reached between his legs and palmed his stiffening cock. “You enjoying my misery?”

Tate’s eyebrow rose. “You don’t look too miserable to me.”

“Where are we going?”

But Tate merely shook his head and turned back to face the road.

JESUS, LOGAN WAS making it hard to concentrate. Making it hard in general, for that matter, Tate thought, as he made the final turn and drove down the deserted road.

When he’d started this little tease, hoping Logan would bite, Tate had been close to pumping a fist in the air when Logan responded. And since the moment they’d left Jill’s subdivision, it had been game on.

It took everything Tate had not to take another look over to Logan watching him with a hand between his legs. But damn it, nothing would happen if he ended up driving them off the road.

He’d gotten this brilliant idea of his after talking with Matt about places they used to go as kids. And while they’d been reminiscing over the girls they’d scored with, this particular location had popped into his head as somewhere he’d like to take Logan.

“The Harvest Moon Drive-In?”

Tate looked over to Logan, now leaning forward and staring out the windshield at the dilapidated sign that no longer lit up and was half hidden behind overgrown trees. “Uh huh.”

“You brought me to a drive-in?”

“No.” Tate slung an arm across the back of the car seats and put his hand on Logan’s headrest. “I brought you to an abandoned drive-in.”

As the words sank in, Logan tongued his top lip. “Did you now?”

Tate nodded and tightened the hand he had on the steering wheel, because the look Logan was now aiming his way was the same one they’d shared back at Jill’s, and it was making him seriously want to just park there and to hell with the rest of his idea… But no. Not yet. “Ever been to a drive-in movie theater, Mr. Mitchell?”

Logan shook his head. “I have not. But apparently I’m not going to one tonight, either.”

Tate went to run his fingers through the back of Logan’s hair, and hesitated for a second, but then he decided, Fuck that shit. Logan had said he wanted to touch, so he should have no objections over the fact that Tate wanted to. So Tate ran his hands through the silky black strands and then aimed a smile at Logan before letting go. “Oh, you’re going to one…” he said as he took the car out of park and drove off the side of the main road and onto the old dirt one. “You’re just not going to see a movie.”

* * *

AS TATE STEERED the Mustang past the sign that had seen better days, Logan said, “So if I’m not going to see a movie, then what exactly are we doing here? I’m not sure my mother would approve of me driving around this late at night in some boy’s car.”

Tate took his eyes off the road long enough to pin Logan with a devilish glint in his eye. “Really? I don’t know, your mother isn’t like most…plus, she thinks I’m rather charming. Remember?”

Logan scoffed but didn’t dispute Tate’s words, because Evelyn did think Tate was charming. That was saying something, considering the second time they met, Tate told her in no uncertain terms that if she ever fucked with Logan again like she had that night at The Peninsula, then she would have him to answer to.

And hell, Logan was close to positive he would’ve tattooed Tate’s name on his ass that night if he’d asked him to.

“Yeah, yeah, so you won Evelyn over. She’s not the one sitting in this car, though.” Logan looked out the window as Tate maneuvered the car around a bend and through some thick foliage. “A forest on the way to some secluded place.”

“Aww, don’t tell me you’re scared,” Tate said, and flashed a wolfish smile. “Actually, that might work in my favor. Want me to hold your hand?”

Logan started laughing, and it felt amazing. God, it felt good to be comfortable again in his skin with the man now leering at him. “And how many girls did you use that line on?”

“A few.” Tate winked as the car bumped its way along the road slowly.

“Uh huh. Let me see if I can paint an accurate picture here. You at sixteen

“No, seventeen.”

“You didn’t get your license until you were seventeen?”

“No, I had it—Dad just didn’t let me use the Camaro until I was seventeen.”

Ohh, my mistake,” Logan said. “So you at seventeen in your father’s Camaro. Long hair or short?”

Tate shrugged. “Longish.”

“Okay. So basically, curls all over the place, like now.” Logan ran his eyes over Tate. “Hormones racing. A dark, secluded spot at the back of a drive-in and…little Mary Sue sitting beside you in her prettiest summer dress.”

Tate let out a booming laugh, and then cursed when the Mustang hit a pothole. “That’s your fault. You distracted me.”

“I don’t know. I think it was the thought of the summer dress and the easy access. It’s much harder to get into a pair of pants. Do you even know how to?”

Tate lowered his eyes to the zipper of Logan’s pants and nodded. Fuck me, I’m now hard as a rock.

“I know how to get into yours.”

“You think so, huh?”

“I do.”

“So cocky…”

“Just the way you like it. Right?” Tate said, their familiar banter right back in place.

“I definitely like cock-y.” As Logan smirked, the headlights slipped through the narrow opening of the road and finally lit up a wide-open field in front of them.

There were rows and rows of small concrete bumps with grass grown over where the cars used to park, and stands beside each spot for trays and speaker jacks. Off at the far end on each side of the grounds were two huge screens. There were floodlights bordering the outskirts of the area, and in the middle of the field was a small building with a giant arrow that obviously lit up once upon a time. It had the word Mel’s across it.

The Mustang idled on the outskirts of the old drive-in, and Logan’s pulse began to pound in time with his throbbing dick at the thought of “parking” in this secluded place with Tate.

“Was I right?” Tate’s gravelly voice caught Logan’s attention and had him dragging his eyes away from the possibilities he knew lay ahead of them out there in the field.

About…?”

Tate’s tongue licked over his lips as though he were having the most delicious thought. “Me being your first?”

The sexual tension in the car sizzled, and Logan couldn’t help it. He reached down and applied heavy pressure to his aching erection, which was responding eagerly to Tate’s very blatant invitation that it come out and play. “My first what, exactly?”

“The first boy to take you to a drive-in, park, turn off all the lights, and hopefully get in your pants.”

Logan bit the inside of his cheek to hold back the groan he wanted to let free, because the idea of Tate doing what he had just said was making it really difficult to not unzip and start without him. “This will be my first drive-in experience, yes. As for getting into my pants, that’s still up for debate.”

“Oh, it’s definitely up.”

“You know, a nice boy wouldn’t point that out.”

That filthy smile Logan so loved curled the sides of Tate’s lips. He lowered a hand down between his own legs and began to massage the discernible bulge behind the zipper of his jeans.

“Whoever said I was nice?”

Logan narrowed his eyes and had to admit that there were definitely times when Tate was not so nice. And damn if Logan didn’t love it when that boy came out to play. But in the spirit of the game, Logan shrugged and said, “You know, all the girls.”

Tate chuckled, and the sound was so lighthearted, so relaxed, Logan loved hearing it. This familiar ease that was back between them was welcome, and it was unbelievable how long twenty-four hours could feel when you were at odds with the other half of yourself.

All the girls? There weren’t that many. And just because I was nice to them doesn’t mean you’ll share the same fate.”

Logan zeroed in on the hard dick Tate was rubbing as he said, “There must be something wrong with me, because I really hope that’s the fucking truth.”

As Tate leaned over the console, Logan caught and held his breath, because hell if he wasn’t two seconds away from demanding Tate shut the car off where they were and get his hands on him.

“There’s not a single thing wrong with you. Though I thought you’d be a little more nervous, considering this is your first time.”

Logan turned his head on the headrest, and when their eyes locked, the match was lit. “I’m nervous.”

“Doesn’t seem that way to me…” Tate closed the gap between them and bit down on Logan’s lower lip, and shit, it took everything Logan had not to grab hold of him. “But why don’t you loosen up a little while I find a place to park.” Tate pushed down on the seatbelt release, and as it came free and retracted across Logan’s chest, he added, “Unbutton and unzip your pants, Logan.”

This close, Logan could see how dark Tate’s eyes were from the reflection of the dash, and without looking away from him, Logan reached down and undid his pants. “You know, boys have become a lot more forward since I was in high school.” His voice sounded strained even to his own ears. This little field trip Tate had taken them on was fast becoming a fantasy Logan never knew he had.

“Really?” Tate said, and pressed a quick kiss to Logan’s lips. And that tiny taste just wasn’t enough. “Then maybe you were dating the wrong people.”

“I didn’t date in high school.”

Never?”

“Nope. Too busy studying.”

“Well… That’s a shame,” Tate said, but his tone told Logan otherwise, and he had a feeling that Tate liked that little fact.

As he moved back to his side of the car, Tate aimed his eyes down at Logan’s lap and said, “I guess I’ll just have to make up for lost time, then, won’t I?”

Logan raised an eyebrow. Perhaps…we shall see. Then Tate put the car into gear and drove them toward the left end of the field to find a place to park.
