The Bear's Fake Bride (Bears With Money Book 1) by Amy Star, Simply Shifters (18)

SIX

The days that followed were such a sweet time for Kalia and Luke. Each day, their child grew larger and stronger in her belly while their love grew deeper. Kalia had never known it was possible to be so happy. Luke, for his part, doted on her. He had always dreamed of being a father and he loved nothing more than pressing his ear to her stomach and listening to their baby's heartbeat.

Once Luke healed enough to be able to move about again, he insisted on building them a sturdy cabin to replace their tent. Kalia argued that she didn't want a new home. She loved their tent and the memories they'd made there. It was there that they'd conceived the baby she felt growing inside of her. It was there that they'd become a family.

Still, he was stubborn about it. He insisted they needed a sturdier place to raise their child. One particularly beautiful summer evening, as they lay in each other's arms, the argument revived itself. His insistence that they needed to make plans for the home, so he could begin building it before the baby came, was a source of frustration to her as she tried to simply enjoy the quiet moment in his arms.

"I don't want to give up our tent. I've just made it a home for us," Kalia argued again as she lay in Luke's arms. There, upon the pillows and surrounded by candles, she felt as though they had a world of their own in the tent and she didn't want to give that up for the formality of a cabin.

"We'll move everything from here into the new cabin. You'll see. It'll be even better because we'll have more room for the baby. Where would we put a baby in the tent?" he asked, kissing the back of her neck and pulling her back gently against his chest.

She tried to pull away a bit because it was nearly impossible to argue her point when his warmth surrounded her. The feeling of being enveloped in his arms always made it hard for her to keep her thoughts straight.

"I know we will eventually, but for now, we don't have to rush. Perhaps you haven't seen one before, but babies are tiny things. We could put a small bassinet there in the corner and we'll all be together. It'd be magical, the three of us here in our little nest," she purred.

"You'll not dissuade me from this. It's fine for us to live like gypsies, but once we have a child, that has to change," he said stubbornly.

"You act like this wasn't your home. This was yours first. I like that. I like that it feels like you. Every inch of this place speaks to my soul. Don't make me move behind four walls. I've never slept in the fresh air like this before. It makes me feel so connected to my bear instincts. Now that the child is growing in me, it's even stronger. I don't want to lose that," she whispered as she snuggled back against his warmth.

"That's not fair, my dear. You know that I want nothing more than to see you happy, but it's not logical. This place is where we got our start. It's where we came to be a family. I would never let that go. It's in this place that I'll build our new home. We'll be even happier than we are here. I promise you," he said solemnly.

"My love, I don't doubt that, but I don't need it. All this baby and I need is you," she sighed, savoring in the sound of his heartbeat and the babies in sync with each other.

"Change isn't as bad as you might think. After all, it was change that brought us together," he pointed out, hugging her close.

"Yes, our lives did change and now we are as happy as any two people have a right to be. Let's not tempt fate," she said, her face red with anger but her voice broke, betraying a deeper meaning to her words.

"I'm a fool," Luke said as he froze, realizing for the first time just how afraid Kalia truly was.

"No darling, you aren't. I know you're being wise. I'm just being stubborn," she said, cuddling close to him.

"That's not what I meant, my dear. I meant I should've realized the real source of your hesitation. I'll not let anything bad happen to you, myself or our baby. Our happiness isn't going to be shattered like your family's was when your father died. Things are changing. There's no helping that, but I promise, things are going to change for the better," he said, pulling her close and wrapping her in his strength.

"This tent, here with you, is the first place I've really felt safe since my father died. Since that day, I've felt like I'm just waiting for the next attack to happen. It's only since I fell in love with you that I've felt protected. I know nothing about that will change if we move in to a new home, because you'll be there, but it's hard to leave behind this place that has meant so much to me. We made a home and a love here," she sighed as she lay her head on his chest.

"I don’t want you to doubt for a moment this place means as much to me as it means to you. I've been happier here than I've been at any other point in my life. Still, I'll make our new home that much more special. It'll be built for us and our child. It'll be an expression of us. You'll love it. I swear," he said, kissing the top of her head.

"I trust you," she whispered, as she began to drift off to sleep, enveloped in his warmth.

Luke lay awake for some time, feeling the beat of her heart against his chest and listening to her gentle breathing. Faintly, he could hear the heart beat of their unborn child within her and he swore to himself as he had sworn to her, he would make sure his family stayed together and safe, no matter what was to come. He lay his hand on Kalia's stomach with a gentle possessiveness that she could sense even in sleep, nuzzling closer to his warm embrace.

The next morning, Kalia woke to find Luke watching her intently. His gaze was so full of love that it took her breath away. As long as her home was with him, she knew it'd be a happy one.

"Good morning," she said sleepily.

"You look lovely this morning," he said as he gave her a gentle kiss that sent butterflies fluttering about in her stomach.

"I believe you're a little biased. Aren't you going off with the other warriors today?" she asked, seeing he seemed in no hurry to rise. He looked as though he was content to lay there with her for as long as she chose, which was just fine with her.

"Yes, I am. It’s still early. What are you planning to do today?" he asked without making any effort to leave their bed.

"I think I should go and see my family. I haven't seen them since the battle. I'm sure they're quite worried about me," she said gently, trying to push thoughts of that terrifying day from her mind.

"Besides, you have some news to share with them," he said, caressing her stomach.

Though she wasn't yet showing the life growing inside of her, she knew he could feel it and she relished the feeling of being so connected to her little family. With great reluctance, he pulled himself from the warmth of their bed and prepared to leave for his duties to the tribe.

Once Luke was gone, Kalia pulled herself from the bed and forced herself to dress for the day. If not for the excitement of telling her family she was with child, she might've laid there the whole day, just waiting for Luke to come home. Still, that wasn't an option. She had to live her life, even when he was forced to be away from her.

Still, now that his child was growing inside of her, the desire to be near him was nearly unmanageable. She knew it was the mother bear instinct inside of her, urging her to keep all those she loved within arm’s reach of her, but that didn't lessen the feeling of the instinct within her.

Slowly and leisurely, she enjoyed the walk to her mother’s cabin. So much had changed in the short time since she'd last been to visit. She'd always been a child in her mother’s house. Now there was a life growing inside her, making her a mother. Kalia greatly looked forward to her mother’s guidance because she could already feel changes within herself and her emotions. She knew her mother’s advice would help her to manage such things and she was also overjoyed to bring new life to their family. The thought of her little brothers running about with her own child warmed her heart, though she feared they might be a bit jealous. They'd always looked upon her as a second mother; she didn't want that to change, even when she'd a child of her own.

The one thought that really played on her mind as she drew closer to her family home was that Luke had yet to form a relationship with her family. She hoped to see that change as her baby came closer to entering the world. Her instincts were telling her that it was necessary to build as large a family circle around the baby growing within her as she could and she needed her family near. She didn't want her family with Luke to be separate. She wanted it to be an extension of that family that had formed her.

It was those thoughts that filled her head as she heard the laughter of her brothers echoing from the cabin yard. They were running about, tumbling and wrestling. The sight of such unchecked joy was such a wonderful sight that she couldn't help but join them in their laughter. As soon as they heard her, they jumped up and ran to her. She knelt down and hugged them close.

“Kalia, Luke fought so hard for you,” the first cried as he hugged her tight.

“He's a fierce warrior,” the other said in amazement.

“Yes, he is,” she said with a smile. “One day, you'll both have to be just as fierce, my little loves.”

“We will be,” they said in unison, running off and wrestling again as though they were practicing for their future as warriors. Though she loved to see how they looked up to Luke, she hated the thought of them one day fighting for their lives as Luke had. She wanted nothing more than to freeze them in that moment, playing warriors rather than battling as men.

“Kalia, my daughter,” her mother cried as she came running across the yard and squeezed her in a tight embrace. After all that she'd been through, it was wonderful to be in her mother’s arms again.

“Mother.” She sighed, holding her tight.

“How's Luke? Is he healing well?” she asked with real concern.

The expression on her mother’s face told her she'd been fearful his wounds might've been too much for him to recover from. She felt a chill run through her, remembering with horror how it had felt to see him wounded in her name. She pushed the image from her mind, trying instead to focus on the positive things the future held.

“He's doing well. He's off with the other warriors. I wanted to let you know how well he's doing. I know you must've been so worried during the whole ordeal. I'm sorry it's taken me so long to come and see you,” she apologized, feeling tears form in her eyes.

“I was afraid, my child. I was so worried when the chief called me to the lodge. I knew that it must've been about and I was sure Luke would forfeit you. I'm sorry, my dear, but I was sure he wouldn't fight for you,” her mother said, looking sad as she wrapped her arm around her.

“I was surprised then too, Mother. I have to tell you the truth, though. I love him and he loves me. I know that now. It's the one thing in this world I'm sure of,” she said, patting her mother on the back as shock registered on her face.

“So soon? How has he come to love you already? You're charming, of course, but he's a hard man and you knew so little of each other before you were mated. How has love grown so quickly?” her mother asked, shaking her head in disbelief

“We were destined to be. We complete each other. I know it's grown quickly, but that doesn't make our love less true. He risked his life for me. He fought for me because he loves me and he didn't want Bertram to come anywhere near me. He did it because he wanted me to be safe. It wasn't because he wanted to keep me as his possession. He did it all for love,” she said with a smile on her face, as she thought of the moment when he had told her how he truly felt.

Her mother’s expression told her she was still not entirely able to grasp the truth in her words. “If you love him, Kalia,” she said warmly, “then I'll love him. He will be a welcome part of our family.”

“Thank you, Mother! He's not the only addition to our family, though,” she said with a teasing grin.

Her mother paused and looked closely at her daughter. In the silence, she cocked her head to listen closely as she absorbed what Kalia was hinting at. “What am I hearing?” her mother asked in shock. Kalia took her mother’s hand and placed it on her stomach.

“You're hearing your grandchild,” Kalia said as she watched the expression of joy spread across her mother’s face. The woman had known so much loss in her life. It was wonderful to be able to give her such happiness and hope.

“A grandchild! Oh baby, your father would've been so proud of you. I can hardly believe it myself. It feels like only yesterday you and Mali were running about as the boys are. Now, you're a grown woman with a warrior as a mate and a baby on the way. You'll be such a wonderful mother. Really, you've been helping me to raise your siblings for years. Now, you'll be raising a child of your own. I can scarcely believe how much things have changed. I'm so proud of you, my little girl. Shall I stop calling you my little girl?” her mother asked, with a gentle smile on her face.

“It'd make me profoundly sad if you ever stopped calling me your little girl. No matter how many children I have, you'll always be my mother and I'll always be your daughter. I need your guidance now more than ever. Mother, my emotions have been raging since I found out I was pregnant. I feel my inner bear roaring. I don't know that I can control it,” she said with real worry in her voice.

“My sweet girl, of course your instincts are raging. The most natural and primitive thing that a woman can do is bear a child. Your inner bear will not quiet, even with time. Even now, as you stand here telling me you're having a child, my inner bear wants to trap you in the cabin and keep you here with me always, where I'll know that you're safe. It's our burden as mothers, but it's also the greatest gift. It'll help you to keep your little one safe,” she said with a knowing smile.

“I've never felt so connected to my inner bear. I thought when I was mated, I could never feel a more primal thing, but I feel it coursing through me now. I feel as though I could tear anyone apart who was a threat to the baby and it's just a tiny thing inside me. It hasn’t even taken a breath yet,” she said with a laugh at how silly she sounded to herself.

“My girl, that's what being a mother is. You'll feel this way always,” she laughed, hugging her daughter. “I believe I hear your sister coming.”

“Where has she been?” she asked, a little surprised to find that Mali wasn't moping around the cabin as she usually was.

“She was off picking berries for me,” her mother said with a laugh, knowing how surprising the news was.

“You mean she's actually helping you voluntarily,” she gasped in mock shock, making her mother laugh even harder.

“She's stepped up quite a bit,” she said with a smile.

“Kalia,” she heard her sister yell as soon as she picked up her scent. In a flash, Mali’s arms were wrapped around her and it felt wonderful to be so close to her. “Oh, I've been so worried about you. I told you I thought your mating would be challenged. I was so afraid we would never see you again.  I can’t believe he fought for you. After everything you said, I was so afraid he would let you go. He loves you, doesn’t he? Of course he loves you. How could he not,” her sister said in a rush of words that would've been impossible to make out if not for her bear senses.

“It's alright. It's over now and he and I are safely mated and very much in love,” she assured her sister, who still looked a bit worried. Then, her hand darted out and rested on Kalia’s stomach.

“My God, you're pregnant. You are, aren’t you? I can feel the life growing in you. Oh Kalia, I'm going to be an aunt,” she cried, hugging her tightly again.

“Yes, I'm going to be a mother and you're going to be an aunt. I need you now more than ever. I need you to be there for this baby. I need to know that he or she will always have you, no matter what happens in this life,” she said solemnly.

“Oh Kalia, I promise! I'll be there for this little one for its whole life. Still, nothing is going to happen to you or Luke. If you both made it through all that Bertram did, there's nothing that could harm you. I'm so glad for you. I can only hope I'm half as lucky when my time to mate comes,” she wished.

“Thank you, my darling little sister! I really need to leave now. I feel a bit tired. I think having a baby wears me out,” she said with a laugh.

Her mother and Mali hugged her close and she felt so loved and, more importantly, she felt her baby was loved. That was all that she could ask for.

*

As Kalia walked home, her heart was warmed by the support of her mother and her sister. In the end, she'd decided not to tell the little boys yet that she was having a baby. Until they could see her pregnancy, they would have trouble understanding. Also, selfishly, she was sure they wouldn't take it well and she was too overwhelmed with the love and support from her mother and her sister that she didn't want to face anything but acceptance. Soon enough, it'd be time to tell the little ones, but not just yet.

She made her way back to the tent slowly, savoring the beauty of the day. The greatest benefit of being a werebear in the woods was the ability to take in every aspect of nature with a greater appreciation than any human could imagine. The sounds and scents of the forest surrounded her and the feeling of the sun upon her skin was wonderful. She was quite tired, but the environment was so alive, so energetic, that she couldn't help but bounce along as she walked.

She was so tuned in to her environment that she realized instantly when everything shifted. Suddenly, the birds that had been chirping went silent. The deer she'd been hearing romping about in the brush bolted, stampeding off at top speed. Even the rabbits and squirrels that had been zipping about were suddenly gone. She tensed, knowing such silence in the forest was a sign of danger's arrival.

She heard footsteps at a distance. Though they sounded like humans approaching, their scent told her that they were her own kind. As they approached, she could tell there were four of them and they were all female. She also knew they were not of her tribe. There was nothing familiar about their scents. The speed at which they were approaching told her that they were not coming to pay her a social call. The bear within her roared and she crouched to a defensive position and braced herself for whatever was to come.

Soon enough, they emerged from the trees. All four of them looked around her age. They wore buckskins and warpaint, with fierce expressions on their faces as they approached her. Each had dark hair and black, unblinking eyes. The tallest emerged as the leader and stepped forward, with the others standing behind her looking as though they might strike at any moment.

"So you're the one; the reason my brother is dead," she said as she took a step closer to Kalia.

"I've taken no life," she growled in answer, giving no ground to her enemy.

"No, but you're the reason he died. Bertram might've thought he could use you to exact his vengeance, but he was wrong. He underestimated you, but I'll not. I'll avenge him. First, my sisters and I will take your life, then the rest of our people will tear your tribe apart," she said, pacing as though she was in no hurry at all, as though she'd all the time in the world.

“I don't think you want to do that. I would hate to kill you, but if you come any closer, then I'll bathe in your blood without a moment’s hesitation,” Kalia growled, glaring back at her with a hatred she didn't know that she was capable of.

“Threaten all you like princess, but I know the truth. Your tribe doesn't teach you to fight. You couldn't harm me. You're not taught to defend yourself. You're taught to care for your men while they're the ones who know how to fight. I don't see any male around. I don't hear one for miles. You'll be dead before any of them get here. You see, we were not raised to be helpless. We're raised to be warriors. I'll snap your neck before you even lay a hand on me.

"Don't worry, though. I'll not make you suffer. That'll be reserved for your mate. My father will take his time killing him. He wanted to be the one to kill you, but I had to insist on that right. I loved my brother dearly. I'll not let his death go unavenged,” she said.

Kalia didn't respond. Instead, she let her inner bear take control. The entire time the stranger had been speaking, it had been roaring within her. From the second she'd sensed them coming, her instincts had been fighting to take control. It was then that she knew why. Her inner bear was the most protective part of her and she needed to trust it. She needed to trust herself to protect herself and her baby.

With that, she transformed into her bear form. With a roar, she met her enemy, who had also taken her bear form. Kalia was shocked by her own strength as she grabbed her and sent her soaring through the air. Before she could bounce back, one of her sisters lunged at Kalia. Before she even had the chance to fully take her bear form, Kalia had snapped her neck.

A roar filled her ears as another of them flung herself at her. Kalia dispatched her with a swipe of her claw, amazing herself at the ease with which she was able to take her. It happened so quickly, more a reflex than a conscious action. Their leader then returned to the fight.

She flew at her with all of her fury, but in the end, she was no match for the mother bear within Kalia. She didn't hesitate to sink her teeth in to the neck of her enemy. She felt the blood fill her mouth and instead of being disgusted, she was over taken with adrenaline. When she released her grip, the other woman’s body fell to the ground. The remaining female looked at her with sheer terror before turning and running from the scene.

It wasn't until her footsteps were gone and her scent had faded that Kalia took her human form again. She slumped to the ground. She could feel the blood on her face and bruises forming on her arms from the battle, but all she cared about was her baby. She cradled her stomach protectively and listened intently to the steady beat of the baby’s heart within her.

Once she was satisfied that the life within her was unharmed, she slumped against a tree in relief. The adrenaline was still coursing through her and her heart was racing. It took quite some time for her to return to normal. She looked in shock at the bodies that surrounded her. It had all happened so fast, but the carnage was too intense to take in. She'd never even raised her hand to another and now she was surrounded by the three bodies that she'd killed. Still, she had no regrets. What she'd done, she did to save her unborn child even more than she had to save herself. There was no life she wouldn't have risked to keep the baby within her safe.

She felt as though she'd sat there for an eternity when she heard footsteps approaching. Relief washed over her when she recognized Luke's scent. She knew that he wasn't alone, but that didn't matter to her. The fact that he was close at hand made all the difference in the world. Still, she was too exhausted to stand. She leaned back against the tree and knew he would come to her when he found her scent.

“Kalia,” she heard him calling.

“Luke,” she called back. Soon enough, he was upon her. He gasped at the carnage he found surrounding her. He rushed to her and threw himself on the ground beside her, cradling her in his arms.

“What happened? My god! Are you hurt? Is the baby?” he asked, running his hands over her to check her for injuries. She looked up to see his warriors standing behind him, staring at her in awe. She knew her face was covered with blood and she could feel that she looked a mess, but they were looking at her with a deep respect that shocked her a bit.

“I'm alright and so is the baby. I can feel it. The baby’s alright. That's why I had to do it. I didn't want to kill anyone but I couldn't let them hurt the baby. I had to protect the baby and killing them was the only way. One got away. I'm sorry for that,” she said, holding tight to Luke.

“I don't understand. What happened? Who were they?” he asked, putting his hand to her cheek in an attempt to wipe the blood away.

“I was walking home from my mother’s when they surrounded me. I heard them coming and I prepared as best I could. They came at me and told me that they were here to avenge their brother. They were Bertram’s sisters. They wanted to kill me to avenge him,” she said, remembering the hateful look in the woman’s eyes as she'd spoken.

“Why would they come after you?” he asked, looking as though he wished that he could resurrect her just to kill her again for threatening his mate.

“The one who spoke said that they were going to kill me before their father killed you. She said their people are going to attack the tribe in retribution for Bertram’s death. Now that I've killed them, there's no chance they won't come now. They are coming for us all.”

Luke looked at her without speaking for some time before standing and sweeping her up in his arms. To his men, he said, “Spread out. Check the entire area. Don't stop until you're sure that there are no enemies in these woods. I'm taking her home.”

They didn't hesitate to follow his orders, spreading out and leaving them alone. To her, he smiled and said gently, “I'm taking you home.” He carried her close to his chest, with no sign of returning her to the ground.

“I think I can walk on my own now. I'm sorry to have been so overwhelmed by it all, but I'm fine now. I promise you that you don't need to carry me,” she said, though she relished the feeling of being safe in his arms.

“I'm not carrying you because I think you need to be carried. I'm carrying you because I need to have you in my arms. I'm fairly sure if I don't have you safely in my arms, I'll use my bare hands to kill every member of their tribe for daring to threaten you,” he said with no hint of humor in his voice.

His murderous expression should've scared her, but she found it quite thrilling.

“You did what needed to be done and I'm proud of you,” he said as he kissed her gently.

“You're not horrified, then? I was a little afraid you would be,” she admitted as she snuggled closer to him.

“No, I could never be horrified by you, especially for protecting yourself and our child. Don’t you dare let anything happen to you,” he commanded and it warmed her heart.

Soon enough they arrived at the tent and he didn't hesitate or attempt to put her down until he reached their bed. He laid her down gently and surprised her by gripping the hem of her dress and ripping it in two with his bare hands.

“What are you doing?” she gasped, shocked by the hunger in his eyes.

“I'm checking you for further injuries,” he said wickedly as he ran his hands across her bare abdomen.

“I promise that I'm fine,” she said as his fingers reached a bruise on her hips that she'd not even realized she had.

“They nearly had you. If you'd hesitated, if they'd brought more with them, if they'd not taken for granted that they could overpower you, they might've taken you from me,” he said, looking as though he was replaying all the awful things that could have happened in his mind.

“But they didn't and I'm fine,” she said, placing her hand over his.

He ran his thumb over her lips and kissed her gently, as though he needed to taste her lips in order to assure himself that she was truly there with him, safe in their bed. His hands continued to roam her body, now savoring the feeling of her skin rather than searching for injuries. The hunger in his eyes was thrilling to her. She could tell that the thought of losing her had made his desire for her all the more intense and she relished in it. Knowing that he wanted her as he did stirred the same passion within her and she tangled her fingers in his wild hair, pulling his mouth back down to hers.

His hands shook just then, which surprised her. In all of their lovemaking, he had always been the confident one. Now, he seemed to be tentative, as though he was afraid to hurt her. Still, his need was too great for him to pull away from her. He needed to hold her tight, to be within her to know for certain that she was safely his.

After defeating Bertram, he had been lulled in to a false sense of security, thinking all the threats to her were gone. Now though, knowing the threats to her were real and present, he wanted nothing more than to run away with her, to keep her wrapped in his arms. He couldn't stand to take his hands from her, even for a second.

She could sense his mind was drifting to a dark place. Playfully, she bit his lip, pulling him back to her. He growled in approval, gripping her hips. He lifted her swiftly and pulled the shreds of her dress from her, leaving her completely bare before him. His eyes took in her naked body as an offering to a god, but settled on the bruises that were spreading across her skin.

Not willing to lose him to his dark thoughts, she rose to her knees and grabbed him by the shirt and pulled him to her. Wordlessly, he let her lead him. Enjoying her newfound control, she stood and slowly unbuttoned his shirt, pausing to press her lips to his bare chest as she worked her way down his body. She let his shirt fall to the floor and savored the sight of his body. She ran her tongue over the fresh scar from his battle with Bertram, earning her a moan of approval that made her grow wet with want. Still, she had plans for him and she wasn't ready to give control back to him just yet.

She nudged him backwards and he sat submissively on the bed. She pushed his shoulders back and he laid back as she wished, though his eyes were locked on her. Her gentle fingers reached for the tie of his buckskin pants. He could feel the tug of her fingers as they worked and he felt his cock jump in response. She felt it through the thick fabric and his reaction emboldened her even more. She pulled the fabric aside. His penis was already erect, ready to please her. Slowly, she lowered herself onto the bed and gently licked the head of his penis with her tongue. His hips bucked and she couldn't help but giggle at the sight of her strong warrior, submitting to her will.

The hungry look he gave her nearly made her come right then. She could feel the predator within him and it excited her beyond measure. After the events of the afternoon, she needed to lose herself in him. She needed to give herself over to physical pleasure.

He had no problem giving that to her. He took advantage of her momentary pause for thought to flip her on to her back and cover her body with his.

“I wasn't done with you,” she pouted playfully as he pressed his lips to her collarbone.

“Yes, I know but if I don't take you now, I may go mad,” he growled in her ear. With that, he surged into her. He had no restraint. He thrust in to her wildly, again and again.

He was claiming her all over again and she bucked her hips up to meet his thrusts. His hands trailed down her body and his fingers found her most sensitive spot. His fingers matched the rhythm of his thrusts and she thought she might go mad with the sensation. She couldn't keep herself from screaming aloud as she gave herself over to the wild pleasure of it. Her inner bear was very much awakened by all that had happened and her instincts craved him on the most primal level. She gripped his shoulders as he rode her roughly.

She leaned up and licked his chest, savoring the taste of sweat and the scent of him. He groaned in approval and gripped her buttocks, pulling her against him as he ground in to her. She yelped at the motion, digging her nails in to his back as her orgasm took her.

He gave no sign of slowing down, burying himself inside of her again and again until his own pleasure took him and he filled her with his seed. She relished the feeling of having his warming inside of her. He kissed her sweetly and pulled back, looking relaxed, his desire sated for the moment.

She grinned up at him, so glad to be able to call this man her own. He laughed gently, gathering her to him and placing his hand protectively on her stomach. Knowing that this man would do all in his power to protect her and their child was enough to make her feel safe and gently she drifted off to sleep.

It wasn't long, though, before the nightmares of the blood and gore came. She saw the look in the eyes of those she'd killed and tasted the blood again in her mouth. Each time her eyes closed, she felt herself plunged back in to a fight for her life and the life of her child. He simply held her close and stroked her hair until they passed, reminding her all over again why she was so in love with him. In the end, she was too exhausted to stay awake, as she slipped in to a fitful slumber.
