The Omega Team: Collateral Damage (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Nicole Morgan (4)

Chapter Six

RJ had nearly choked on his water when he saw Chase Edwards approaching their table. He had last seen the Delta operator years ago back in Kandahar, Afghanistan on the very day that he’d walked away from his entire life. Seeing his former brother approach their table in Medellín, Colombia was the last thing he’d expected.

Luckily, Chase hadn’t changed much. He’d willingly covered for him in front of Monica, and had obviously done his homework, somehow finding out about RJ’s new identity. The levels to what he knew still remained a mystery though as he sat alongside Monica in her convertible.

“Is everything okay?” she asked.

“Yeah. It’s fine. Why do you ask?” He shifted the car, changing lanes to get around the traffic building in the right lane.

“I don’t know. Your old school friend back there, you seemed surprised, almost shocked to see him.”

RJ glanced at her for a second, but didn’t convey his surprise at her remark. He wasn’t considered one of the best Delta operatives their unit had ever seen from not being unable to hide his emotions. It was the one of the things he was usually very good at. With his naturally dark hair and a thick beard, his skills of remaining cool, and never letting anything show was exactly how he got jobs done.

It was exactly why he was chosen for this job.

A job that had planted him along side a woman who was beginning to show a side to him that he was having a hard time resisting.

“Rodrigo?”

“What?”

“I asked you a question.”

“Yeah. And I answered it.”

“Not with the truth, you didn’t.”

He looked over at her, before shifting again and switching lanes once more. “What are you talking about.”

“Come on. I know everyone back at my father’s estate just looks at me like I’m some sort of spoiled rich girl, but I’m not an idiot.”

“I never said you were.”

“Then tell me what’s going on.”

If only I could.

“It’s nothing.”

“So, there is something.”

“No. Damn it, Monica. That’s not what I meant. You’re twisting my words.”

“And your little vein is popping out from your forehead again.”

She opened the door to the sports car forcing RJ to slam on the brakes and pull to the side of the road.

“What the fuck are you doing?” he shouted as she got out and ran up the hill into seclusion.

RJ put the car in park and took a look at their surroundings before following her up the hill.

He passed a row of trees which led to a clearing with brush and large stones set around a small makeshift firepit. It was a place that was probably frequented by the locals, and the exact opposite of the place that he wanted Monica to be.

Pedro Tovar’s obsession with keeping his daughter safe after Jason’s death might’ve seemed over the top to some people. And RJ had no real credible evidence to support the idea that anyone wanted Monica killed. Still, he couldn’t ignore the fact that there was always territory wars between cartels, and Monica would be a sure fire way to get Pedro’s attention from a competing drug organization.

“Monica! Monica… where in the fuck did you go? Answer me, damn it!”

“Over here.”

He turned to find her sitting behind him. Her long legs crossed one over the other as she waved to him with her long red nails.

“Mind telling me what in the ever loving fuck that was about?”

“If you stop yelling I will.”

He clenched his jaw together to keep himself from screaming. “Fine. I’m listening.”

“I don’t know what you’re lying to me about, but you are lying to me. That much I’m certain about.”

He shook his head. “You’re crazy.”

“That may be true. I’m a woman after all.” She winked. “But, that is another topic for another day. Right now, I’d like to talk about you, what you’re doing here, who that man was, and why you’re lying to me about it.”

“Monica, there’s nothing to –.”

“Damn it, Rodrigo!”

She stood up and came dangerously close to him. So close that he could feel her breath tickle the side of his neck. It was a feeling that he didn’t need. It only added to the internal conflicts waging within him.

“Don’t do this, Monica.”

“Why?” she came closer, taking her hand to his face, brushing across the stubble of his beard. “Because I’m wrong? Or because I’m right?”

RJ wanted to resist the urges he was feeling. Her chocolate brown eyes looked up at him, so inviting and warm. It would’ve been smart for him to pull away, to put immediate and considerable amount of distance between them.

But, he didn’t.

His blood was racing. His pulse pounding through his body as he felt an ache in his cock that felt like torture.

He held her face in his hands and dropped his head down until their mouths were only a whisper apart.

“If I do this, if we do this, there’s no going back.”

“I know.”

“Do you? Because I don’t think you have any idea what you’re getting yourself into.”

“Neither do you.” She leaned in, gently nibbling on his lower lip.

“God damn it.”

Unable to hold back from the lust that had been building inside of him for days, RJ crushed his mouth against hers. And with one free hand pulled her body into his, pressing his hardness against her belly as he fed off of her kiss.

She met his urgency. Licking and devouring him just as he was her.

Chase had been right. He needed to be careful. Because now that he had gone there with Monica, it changed everything.
