The Omega Team: Collateral Damage (Kindle Worlds Novella) by Nicole Morgan (6)

Chapter Eight

Monica woke in terror. The man standing over her wearing all black held her mouth tightly closed to keep her from screaming. She looked to her bedroom balcony and saw three others wearing the same attire and one talking into a radio.

Rodrigo? RJ? Where was he?

Just as she was about to try and fight, a familiar voice came from the bathroom. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw RJ come in the room.

“What in the fuck?” he asked in a low whisper. “I said to keep her quiet, not scare the ever loving shit out of her!”

“Sorry, man. She was opening her eyes and I didn’t want her to scream.”

“Shh.” RJ came beside her. “Listen, honey. This is my friend, remember you met him yesterday.”

“What’s going on?”

“My friends here have been watching your father’s operation for a while. They were tipped off to one of the other guards bringing information to your father. Not only does he suspect that I’m not who I say, but he suspects there’s something going on with us.”

“But, who are you? Not just your name.”

“Hancock. We don’t got time for this, man. It’s time to bug out.”

RJ nodded his head at one of the men with the radio by the balcony door. “There’s a lot you don’t know. And a lot I want to tell you. But, we don’t have time now. We have to leave.”

“My father will never let me leave with you. He never lets me leave at all. I’m stuck here in his clutches. You know this.”

“No one is going to stop me, sweetheart. I’m taking you with me. One way or another. The only question is, will you be going willingly, or –.”

“Willingly.”

“Then hurry.” He tossed a pair of jeans and a t-shirt at her. “Run into the bathroom and change.”

She rushed and quickly put on her clothes as she heard the men talk to RJ. She couldn’t hear much of what was going on, but it didn’t sound good. They were in real danger, and the worry she heard in RJ’s voice was the first time she’d heard it since all the years of knowing him.

RJ.

It seemed so weird to think of him calling him anything other than Rodrigo. That was how she’d known him for years.

She wondered what secrets he had to share with her. Wondered what his real reason for being there could have been.

She prayed he was as good of a man as her heart believed that he was. Though she knew the possibility that he was from a rival cartel was a true risk she would be taking.

Her father may be hell bent on avenging Jason’s death, but she knew once she betrayed the great and powerful Pedro Tovar that she would become nothing to him. Her life, and death would be nothing more than collateral damage in his eyes.

Just like her brother, she knew her father was also a monster.

“Hey.” RJ popped in the bathroom. “You all set? We’ve gotta go.”

“Ninety seconds, RJ.”

“What’s happening?” she asked. “What happens in ninety seconds?”

“There’s no time now. Soon. I’ll explain everything soon. But, first… we gotta fly.”

“Sixty seconds.”

“Hancock now!” one of the men shouted.

RJ held out his hand and she willingly took it. Stepping out onto the balcony she waited while one of the others attached a cable around her waist and hoisted her onto a collapsible ladder.

The quiet helicopter which loomed almost silently above them shocked her as she wondered how on earth they’d managed to get past the guards.

A quick glance down at the grounds and she was the answer to her question. Various bodies laid scattered about the terrace and their property in the hills of Medellín, Colombia.

She looked up to RJ. “They’re all dead?”

“Thirty seconds.”

“Go, babe. Let these men take you to safety.” He held her face and kissed her for a moment before she felt the helicopter begin to lift her up.

She watched as they flew away, and RJ disappeared into the distance. The sound of gunfire echoed all around the property and for the first time in her life she felt real fear.

Closing her eyes, she began to pray.

Please, God. Don’t take him from me.

Not now.

Not ever.
