CHAPTER THIRTY-NINE

Kyle heard his mate yelling for him.  Hollie’s voice was clear and strong.  She knew that he would find her.  She had so much faith and trust in him.  He would not let her down.

He knew where she was at once.  She was at the exact same spot where he had saved her from Jasper’s clutches.  That sick bastard had taken her there again, to traumatize, terrorize and humiliate her.

Kyle’s bear ripped out of him as he scented Jasper.  He was going to kill that piece of shit once and for all.  Jasper was a murderer, a deranged psychopath.  And the wolves he led were just as murderous and damaged as him.  None of them did anything to save their pack mates.  They simply murdered their fellow pack members in cold blood and left them to die in agony.

Kyle saw Jasper raising a knife over Hollie’s heart.  He charged at Jasper and smashed into the bastard like a wrecking ball.

Jasper slashed wildly and tried to stab Kyle, but Kyle knocked the knife out of his hand.  In the blink of an eye, Jasper shifted into wolf form and threw himself at Kyle.

Kyle could hear Ian and Shane roaring as his friends tore into the rest of the wolves.  The three bears were outnumbered, but they were relentless in their attack.

Thirsty for blood and vengeance, Kyle and his friends ripped their enemies from limb to limb, showing no mercy, giving no quarter.

Kyle fought off the other wolves and concentrated on Jasper.  He had managed to draw blood from Jasper and the battle was intensifying.

Jasper was a huge wolf, and he was a savage, brutal fighter.  His injuries maddened him and he attacked Kyle recklessly and violently.  He was in a self-destructive mode, and Kyle saw that he was willing to destroy himself to take Kyle down.

Four other wolves came at Kyle at once, and he flung them away like rag dolls.  He slashed his claws across their bodies and slit their bellies open.

The scent of blood and gore was thick in the air.  It was a bloodbath but Jasper had brought it upon himself and his wolves.

Kyle killed three more wolves and spun around to see Jasper lunging towards Hollie.  Hollie was kicking furiously, but she couldn’t defend herself with her hands tied behind her back.

Kyle roared and slammed into Jasper.  He pinned the wolf down and rained down blow after blow with his massive paws.  Even though he was grievously wounded, Jasper got to his feet and kept fighting.

He was a killing machine, a weapon of destruction that was honed to perfection by Jake.  Unfortunately for Jake, that weapon turned against him.

Kyle waited for Jasper to make a fatal mistake.  He saw the maniacal, murderous glint in the wolf’s eye.

When Jasper leaped into the air, Kyle lurched forward and clamped his jaws around Jasper’s neck.  He brought the wolf down and sank his fangs deep into the wolf’s jugular.

Jasper kept thrashing and writhing as he bled out.  Gradually, his movements grew weaker until finally he stopped moving.

Stepping back, Kyle looked up and saw the carcasses of dead wolves strewn around the forest.  Shane and Ian were standing back to back, panting and growling, their fangs and claws dripping with blood.

Kyle shifted back to human form and ran to Hollie.  He untied her hands quickly and hugged her.

“Oh Kyle...”  She cupped his face in both hands.  “I knew you’d come for me.”  She gasped suddenly.  “Joe and Maria...they’re hurt...”

“I know,” Kyle said gently.  “We called for an ambulance once we found them.”

“I have to see them,” Hollie said, twisting around.  “I need to know that they’re okay.”

Kyle nodded.  “Let’s go.”

Shane and Ian shifted back to human form and smiled at Hollie.  The three men were covered with bruises and ugly claw marks, but they seemed unfazed by their injuries.

They strode through the woods without limping or slowing down.  In fact, Ian was skipping a little.

“Well, I guess that’s the end of the Black Blade pack,” Ian said.

“They had it coming,” Shane replied.  “It was a diseased pack, rotting and decaying from the inside.”

“You can say that again,” Ian agreed.  “Those wolves literally destroyed their own pack.  They poisoned their pack mates and just walked away.  They’re evil, pure unadulterated evil.”

“Nobody could save them,” Hollie said sadly.  “They have been so brainwashed that they just went along with Jasper’s horrible scheme.  They couldn’t be saved.  They didn’t even dare think for themselves.  They’re like zombies.”

“Cults create zombies,” Kyle said, as they emerged from the forest.  “And the Black Blade pack was nothing more than a cult.”

“Stop talking about zombies,” Ian snapped with a dramatic shudder.  “Brrrr….this place is just creepy.  Gives me the heebie-jeebies.”

Shane started doing a convincing impression of a zombie by lolling his head, jerking his limbs and letting his tongue hang out.  “Do you think those dead wolves will turn into wolf zombies?”  Shane said.  “Maybe they’re waking up right now...”

“Shut up!” Ian yelled.  “I hate zombies!  Fucking hate them!”  He jumped into the car and slammed the door.  “Hurry up, let’s go home!”
