Coveted by Christina Quinn (1)

This isn’t love. No, love is hearts and flowers, chocolate boxes and teddy bears, cheesy coupons, and lingerie. Great love stories don’t start with two people getting sweaty pressed up against the side of a building after saying a total of maybe fifty words to the other person.

The alcohol helped, but I wasn’t drunk enough for it to be the reason for the impromptu tryst. No, I wanted him and so to prove something to myself I decided to have him. Or at least that was how I justified it in my mind as I clawed at his firm back through the hoodie he wore as he pounded into me hard enough and fast enough that I about forgot my name. All that mattered was him and that tight scorching heat that each touch infused in my every synapse.

All the warnings I’d been told my entire life about preternaturals went right out the window with my concern over the fact that nice girls who heeded warnings like that tended not to screw guys in back alleys without getting their names first.

There were no words, only a hunger we desperately wanted to feed. We kissed like lovers, our mouths seeking out each other’s damp heat as we ate away our moans. It should have been quick. I expected it to be over in a handful of minutes when I hiked up my skirt, but time ceased to be a construct as he dug his fingers into my bottom, supporting me as he continued thrusting with an inhuman cadence which made my toes curl in my flats.

I cried out as that pleasure broke and I reached my climax, losing a bit of my self as I grabbed his hair and he gave me what I’d wanted since I saw his fangs sparkling under the strobe lights on the dance floor of Abaddon.

Those sharp teeth of his closed around my pulse and everything intensified as I found myself swept away in a wave of black and blue. He buried himself in me, growling against my throat as he fed, and I felt myself overcome with bliss.

The sensation was like nothing I’d ever experienced before or read in novels. I understood it then. Before, I never got why some became addicted to feeding a vampire, but as a single tear of ecstasy slipped down my cheek, a new clarity dawned on me.

Once he finished, he kept holding me, pressing his forehead against mine as we panted in tandem. For whatever reason, I was reluctant to let go of him—and I didn’t think it had anything to do with the mind-blowing sex.

Silence invaded despite the echo of our labored breathing, and the dull pulsing of the music beyond. I tapped his arm, and he slowly withdrew from me before lowering me to the ground.

“I should get back to my friends.” I glanced him over as I pulled my black dress down.

“All right.” He tossed the condom off to the side. “Name’s Cillian by the way. I didn’t catch yours.”

“That’s because I didn’t give it.” I took a step away from him and fanned my fingers back through my dyed blonde locks, taming the rampant sex hair gone wild situation that had flattened the back of my careful curls.

“So you’re not going to tell me who you are?” He asked, biting his bottom lip.

“Nope, but it was fun. You’ve sated my curiosity.”

“Slumming it with the freaks, huh?”

“Nah, more like brushing shoulders with the other half.” Stretching I nodded a little. “The name’s Scarlet.”

“Pretty name.”

“I get that a lot from guys who want to get in my pants.”

He chuckled. “As someone who’s already been there, I can wholeheartedly say I’d tell you that, and a whole lot more to get back there again.”

“What a charmer.” I let my hips slide to the side.

“Honesty is the best policy.” He looked around for a moment and let out a slow sigh. “You should probably get back inside.”

He looked so sexy by moonlight, like someone who was meant to be there. The blue tint made his eyes seem an otherworldly shade of blue, it also brought out the pale of his skin, not to mention his sexy broody smolder. With his head angled slightly down he peeked up at me through thick black lashes with an unreadable expression.

“I didn’t mean anything by that comment really.” For whatever reason, I felt the need to explain myself as I stood before him.

Shaking his head, he started back for the door. “Nice meeting you, Scarlet.”

“Yeah, nice.” I crossed my arms, and he paused in his tracks before turning back around and swallowing. For a time he stared at me again with that unreadable look.

“Do you have plans for tomorrow around eight?”

“No, not that I know of.”

“You should stop by the Sunset Café.” Without saying more, he left as I continued to contemplate the offer, or should I say order for us to meet again. Watching him disappear out into the parking lot from the alley, my brain couldn’t make up its mind as to whether I’d go.
